This pub is EXCEPTIONAL!! This was the find of our road trip. Richard, his children ( Rueben & Ezra ), and his staff looked after us in every way possible from the very start. The room was very comfortable with lovely squeaky floorboards, and the sounds of the lambs and cows in fields around. We were invited to join in with the weekly Quiz / Bingo night on the Wednesday, we were made very welcome by the local customers as well. We won the prize for coming last, so it was worth joining in. There is an excellent selection of books in the bookcase on the landing. Dining is available on tables outside, in secluded cabins, and indoors. A little tip for the hungry - don't order the large lasagne. It was too much for me to eat ( It would have fed a coach load of people ).
Losing at the quiz - We will be back!

Fantastic stay. Lovely staff. We had to cover the green fire door light in our room as it was just too bright during the night. Bed was a little springy however I think that’s just personal preference as we like a harder mattress. Room was very clean, just above door frames missed and top of the wardrobe (I’m a cleaner so quite picky!) food portion sizes were very good value for money with both breakfast and dinner. Lovely overall. Would definitely come back. Thank you
The fire door light in the room, too bright. Didn’t like not being able to come back past 11pm as we’d have liked to have visited some other pubs in the area but that was bye the bye as we had a great time in the rose itself!

High on the hills above Huddersfield, the village of thurstonland is a gem, with the jewel in the crown being the pub. Great food,( try the bruschetta on the antipasto) lovely hand pulled beer, a " whatever you want" breakfast, all in all a dream.
The parking was strange. All the road outside had cones on it...staff told me that a few days previously, a white van had slowly moved down the road placing the cones. No-one in the village had any idea who it was or why.....so I just moved them.

Very nice staff who were always friendly Good walks nearby Great breakfast Dinner available in the pub, good ambience Comfy beds Lots of on street parking (not a problem) Good drinks and biscuits in the room The room key is comically large and you leave it at the bar when you go out. Theres only a few rooms so this was fine. If im in the area id definitely look into staying again :) Thanks!
Very dim light on during night which is slightly distracting but wasnt a problem.

Room was clean and very comfortable, food was really good with an extensive menu. Great location and staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and the owner Richard was very welcoming. Breakfast (including a vegetarian option) was superb. Really recommend this place.
Not much of an issue but the WiFi was a bit hit and miss. Not a complaint more rasing for awareness. Didn't distract from our enjoyment of our stay at all.

Very clean, warm and welcoming. Really nicely situated with a nice warm glow and energy. I managed to park my motorcycle easily at the front of the premises. Excellent reception from the staff. Prompt helpful staff here overseen by the excellent friendly management of Richard the hotel/pub owner. Very clean room comfortable and well detailed. The food is excellent here. Really nice menu, I enjoyed a steak meal in the evening and a generous well cooked and served breakfast. Situated at the edge of the Peak District amongst scenic countryside.

I realise that I am perhaps not a 'normal' traveller. I don't ever have a 'full English' for breakfast and so I wasn't able to take advantage of the offer to have 'anything I wanted' but I appreciated the offer. Sadly, I asked for porridge or granola, neither of which was available but had a perfectly nice poached egg instead.
Only a wider selection of things for those of us who don't care for a massive, cooked breakfast. This isn't a complaint, just an observation.

This was an inexpensive room in a genuine Yorkshire village pub. Good hearty welcome. The pub was heaving with locals on Friday night when we stayed - all catching up with friends and the business of the week. We were clearly outsiders but made to feel very welcome by staff and customers. We chatted with people around us and all were accommodating - we loved it. The place is definitely not designer chic, or particularly rustic - just a good, honest, simple place catering to the local village and any one passing by. Food was excellent (not high class restaurant, but very well prepared, plentiful and tasty). Excellent fish specials menu on Friday night, with free bottle of wine if order 2 fish mains. 5 real ales on tap and we tried 3 of them! Room was simple but perfectly adequate. Beds are simple but comfortable enough. Bathroom is basic but in good condition and everything works. Everything very clean. Usual kettle + tea/coffee/biscuits. Nice outlook over neighbouring houses to rear of pub. Very quiet at night, though we could hear our neighbour showering when in our bathroom. Fantastic & large full cooked breakfast + tea/coffee + toast. Probably not much other choice. Finishes by 9am.
Other reviewers mentioned there is an emergency light on the ceiling. It just gives a dim green glow and absolutely did not cause us any problem. Parking on the street outside was fine. Pub is on the top of a hill so you do park on a slope. Really not a problem. You have to fit in if you want to enjoy this place. If you go with it, it's a blast!

We have stayed here before and the reason we went back is the staff are lovely they will put themselves out to make sure your stay is a good one. The food is lovely with big potions but they do a smaller meal which is still a good portion The breakfast is also very tasty and filling, being able to choose what you want is great, everyone is so friendly they make you feel so at home that’s why this was our second visit this year.
For us nothing they are all so friendly and helpful.

We only booked for one night as we were going to a concert in Holmfirth. We received a very warm welcome, even though we'd arrived earlier than expected and the pub was very busy serving food. The staff on duty were very friendly and showed us to our room. The room was very clean and tidy as was the beautiful ensuite bathroom. The bed was really comfortable. So overall we had a short stay but a very nice one and if we're ever over them parts again we will be sure to call in.
