We had a truly memorable and positive experience staying at The Hotel at the University of Maryland—even in the midst of an unexpected power outage during a summer heatwave! From the moment we arrived, the staff was gracious, professional, and incredibly accommodating. When the power outage affected the air conditioning, the team went above and beyond to make guests as comfortable as possible. They were transparent, thoughtful, and responsive, offering adjustments to our room charges and even complimentary parking as a gesture of goodwill. It's rare to see such hospitality, especially under challenging circumstances, and it really made all the difference. Outside of the power issue, the hotel itself is beautiful—modern, clean, and well-maintained, with spacious rooms and excellent on-site amenities. We especially appreciated the fitness center, lobby bar, and the easy access to nearby restaurants and shopping centers. Whether you're walking to College Park staples or just grabbing a bite nearby, the location is perfect for visitors. Despite the heat and hiccup, we left with a smile and a strong appreciation for the team behind the scenes. We’ll absolutely return on our next visit to the area—and can confidently recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and first-class customer service.

The lighting and AC/Heat options were not the best

We stayed in the hotel during our kindergartener Spring break trip to Washington DC. The location is 30 min drive from the Washington DC downtown and National parks, which we found pretty convenient for the value. The room was well equipped, big enough with a king bed, sofa and armchair. The bathroom was clean. We had a chance to use a swimming pool, it was warm inside, the water was not cold and floors were heated in the pool area. Overall the facility of the hotel is great and well maintained. The area around the hotel is also nice. We found Whole foods in 5 min drive and also tried a breakfast at Iron roaster cafe located in the lobby of the hotel (not bad, but I wish for a more healthy option for breakfast, especially for kids). Self-parking rate is 16$ per day. Will come again.

The pool area could be cleaned more precisely. We had an issue with a wall lamp (most probably because of the dimmable function in light switches the led lamp didn't turn off fully), but we were so tired that we just covered it to sleep in the dark. Despite booking for 2 persons, we got one bathrobe and bath kit for 1 person

Nice room, great location, friendly staff.

The room type we reserved (two double beds) wasn't available. We ended up in a room with a king bed and a pullout sofa. The pullout sofa wasn't comfortable at all (I was on that and didn't sleep well the entire stay). My daughter was on the king bed - it was better than the sofa bed, but still not that comfortable (a little softer would have been nice). Also, the items available at the hotel store left a lot to be desired. One night I had a headache but there was no medicine like Tylenol or Advil available - not sure if they are not carried or just out of stock (disappointing either way). Also the food options at the store weren't ideal - there weren't many healthy options and some of the items required a microwave (but there was no microwave in our on room!).

First and foremost - this hotel has premium mattresses, bedding, and pillows. I stayed at a Four Seasons on this same trip and I'd say that The Hotel's beds are 95% as good (which is quite exceptional). The rooms are quiet and comfortable. I slept amazingly every night here. Additionally, I love all of the open space inside the lobby - plenty of places to hang out, work for a bit, whatever you need. Lastly - the location is great if you're doing anything around UMD, or the DC area more broadly.

The Hotel is located around the University with close access to the Metro for trips into DC. A short walk to the Metro was nice to see the student town of Collegepark. We got locked out of our room due to the door handle's battery dying. Maintenance was quick to handle the situation. I send the Hotel a message, as we left one personal belonging in the room, but no-one has responded by this time.

Everything is nice, the politeness of the employees, greetings to manager Sandra (She is the best). Everythins looks like 5 stars hotel.

Avoid Grilled Markx restaurant. Sime waiters are ok, but others and the manager are outrageous. They charge you with 20% service charge in the bill after 20.30,even you are eating from 20. When I told to the manager that is illegal si said very bored that "house policy". With the same money you can eat in a good steak house in DC.

it was clean, you cant hear the neighbors, wish the view was better, all we saw where air conditioners and rooftop.

The TV didn't work, so we had to get a tech to the room, and somewhere it said room service, but we still had to pick up our food downstairs, and then the coffee machine didnt have instructions so we didnt enjoy the coffee in the room.. Also you have to pay for parking outside your hotel rate, thats wack.

Hotel room was nice, location centrally located and easy to find.

Not a big fan of additional daily parking charges. The large hotel lobby is bit confusing at first. Elevators at one end and parking garage at other side. Although front desk explained property lay-out, signage placard at or around front desk indicating elevator < and Parking > would be helpful to the forgetful.

The room was spacious and overlooked the courtyard where the pool is. Gym was well equipped. Pool was a decent length to do laps.

We needed a late check out as our flight was changed. When I went down initially, I was told it was $75. When I went back down to confirm and pay, another staff member told me it was $100. Wasn’t happy about that and anyway $100 was quite steep for an extra 4 hours. The pool was cold.

Executive queen suite felt big, modern and comfortable. Great coffee in the room (Illy iperespresso!). Room was matched by the rest of the hotel, clearly catering to people visiting conferences of the university campus. Interesting for the kids to walk around an American campus, even if the students weren't there. On site grill restaurant had everything we needed. About 30-45 minutes from the National Mall, depending on traffic.

The pool was a bit too cold.
