This is a large onsen hotel right next to the main attraction in Beppu. We got a room with a private onsen (actually there was an indoor and outdoor one!) which was huge and spectacular. It was pricey but cheaper than anything comparable in the US/Europe. The room was luxurious and had every little item you could think of. It was also conveniently on the ground level, so just a short stroll to the dining rooms. There was no view, but if that's important, then you lose the private onsens - we wanted the onsens. Food was delicious - we did the Teppanyaki and the Kaiseki. Breakfast was huge. The Japanese style one was a "tiffin" box filled with grilled fish etc. The western was also large though some of the items were a little unusual for breakfast (like potatoes au gratin). Delicious nonetheless. Staff spoke a lot of English and were extremely helpful.

The lighting in the bedroom was fine except not really angled for reading in bed. Not the end of the world!

This was easy by far one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with my family traveling. Upfront it is a beautiful location very conveniently located to visiting five of the seven “Hells”. The grounds provide a calm and relaxing environment with mountain views. The staff was exceptional and patient helping us truly enjoy this place with our young children. Our room included and in room traditional Japanese bath. We were able to launch by car to visit Kifune castle and Takasakiyama. Despite initially being told reservations would not be available for Teppanyaki the staff went above and beyond to try to find an opening and ultimately accommodated us. The food was excellent. The location is also convenient to a nearby 7-Eleven for snacks and re-supply for day outings. The check-in and checkout process works very well.

Leaving!

Everything about the property was fantastic, it was a great property. Had a peaceful vibe and atmosphere

There was nothing that could take away from how nice the property was, there was some construction noises throughout the day but I kinda quickly tuned it out. There was a slight problem with the door in the Sugu room I stayed at. The hot bath door had a loose door handle that refused to cooperate with me and frequently got stuck as i tried to take a bath

From the time we arrived we were welcomed greatly and was greeted by staff in our native language which took us by surprise. Apparently there are many staff versed in different languages to assist guests from around the world. I was impressed. The room was huge and the amenities were all there, it did not lack anything. I loved that they provided a rubber duck for the kids to play with in the private bath area. The view from our room was great - overlooking the steamy scenery of Beppu. I loved the private bath, we got an indoor and outdoor one, though the outdoor one is very dark at night since there were no lighting probably around the bath probably to protect privacy. The food served for breakfast and dinner were decent. We liked the teppanyaki dinner and the kids meals were delicious.

The corridors towards our room were a bit dark and the hotel has complex layout, so its quite confusing to get around, I had to check the hotel directory a couple of times on our first day. There were some areas that were closed too when we visited like the mud bath and the karaoke areas. The interior of the room looks a bit old and feels a bit dark, but regardless it was still comfortable to stay in

Beautiful property sprawling up a hill- it even has its own Noh stage. Room was large and spotless with indoor and outdoor onsen tubs, and a separate tatami room and western style bedroom. Beds were very comfortable. The common onsen was spacious with several areas, including a large outdoor onsen. There are several excellent restaurant options including kaiseki and teppanyaki. The location is next to five of the “hells” areas and there is a free shuttle service to the train station. Staff were kind and very helpful.

Very little to dislike - maybe weak water pressure in the shower during busy times?

Absolutely stunning hotel and room. I’ve never felt as relaxed as I have staying at a hotel before, the room with the private onsen is 100% worth it. We tried both the breakfast and the dinner (not the tenpanyaki option), and the food was delightful albeit pricey. Location wise the hotel is perfect if you want to see the hot springs, being practically in between 2 of the 7 hells. Would definitely come again if I’m ever stressed.

No complaints

The ryokan is superb, with an amazing on-site onsen (both indoors and outdoors). We also had a private onsen, which was so relaxing. The location is prefect, right in the middle of the Beppu Jigoku.

Maybe the bar could be a bit more lively, but that's nitpicking

The place exceeded my expectations; The room was beautiful & had two private onsen bath, one indoor the other outdoor but private. The dinner was outstanding, had wagyu & seafood; & breakfast was outstanding. It was worth the money to enjoy & relax in a wonderful environment. The rooftop onsen was excellent also. You can't go wrong staying here.

Not much maybe senior discount.

Stayed in room with private indoor and outdoor bath and enjoyed it very much. There is a public mud bath for ladies which was nice too. We ordered teppanyaki beef and lobster for dinner and it was exquisite. Breakfast set was also luxurious. The staff were extremely friendly and polite.

Hotel is quite big and it is quite a walk through two different elevators and dimly lit corridors to get to the room. But the private room and bath experience with a high view overlooking the city more than made up for it!

Everything! We had such an amazing stay our room/house was by the pond. The children could feed the koi from our private balcony. The outdoor private onsen was lush. The indoor one was also great as we could adjust the temperature to suite smaller children. The room was extremely spacious. The staff were very friendly especially to our children. The teppanyaki dinner was good. We use their free shuttle service back and forth from the station.
