Everything was perfect. This place is a true hidden gem. The location itself is perfect, wandering in the neighborhood at night with the vapor of the hot water coming out of every hole on the ground and from some walls is truly mystical. The owner welcomed us so warmly, the place is an old Japanese house with Japanese-style rooms. Beds were comfortable, and the room was spacious. The most amazing part is the outdoor private onsen. This place has 3 private onsens, and we tried the 3rd one with a beautiful outside onsen. The onsen water is really hot, so be prepared, but after that, we slept so well. Thank you very much for this amazing stay. I will recommend this place to everyone.

Nothing here, everything was beyond our expectations.

Situated in the very center of Kannawa, the hot springs hot spot. The luxury lies in the simple things such as an indoor wellness bath (two separate cubilces, to be exact), that are soured from the hot water shooting out from the ground all over the city of Beppu. The Ryokan is a traditional private residence with a lovely owner and his wife who run the place on their own. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese stay with a down to earth feeling, this is it.

The futon matresses are a bit hard for my spoiled European back, but this is part of the deal... ;-) and I'm just used to softer bedding at home, so I am biased it that sense.

The facility is located in the center of Beppu Hot Spring, very close to Hells of Beppu, good restaurants and everything. Loved the concept with three private onsens. It has been relaxing and fun. Exceptionally clean in the room, tea upon arrival. The owner has shown the kimonos of his grandmother that he has upcycled. Beautifully decorated traditional rooms. Relaxing onsens.

I liked everything

We loved that this was a traditional comfy stay with a kitchen and three different onsen choices in the house and many more just steps away. Restaurants nearby and a small market and convenience store are close too. The ryokan has been in operation for 90 years and the traditional welcome by the third-generation owner made us feel at home. He showed us the different temperature choices and how we hang a sign whenever we want to enjoy a certain onsen. Simple - even when others were in the house, we felt comfortable knowing it was private. He even took us for a walk through town showing us the view, the original temple, pointed out the nearby steam baths and other onsen we could enjoy if we chose, and we very much appreciated our conversations (in English) about the geophysics and history. Over two days, we visited the nearby Hells where we bought combi ticket to see them all. Parking was easy to keep our car in the lot provided. The Japanese room was comfortable (even though we chose the shared bathroom down the hall), it was always free. We appreciated after a few days of travel, being able to do laundry and rest --feeling at home as the true traditional ryokan in an onsen town reminded us of the history. We even learned about the historical name Mikasaya and later visited the ship itself restored as a museum in Yokosuka outside Tokyo- so we thank our host for all his kindness!

We would love to return and stay longer even if our older bones would have liked an additional futon for more cushion. We didn't ask if any rooms had private baths but we were happy we could extend for a second night since this area and ryokan are a popular choice.

Our host was so kind and gracious and very helpful. The area around the ryokan was so incredibly beautiful and there were food places and a 7-11 not far. The hot pools in the ryokan were so nice, perfect temperature and private. We would definitely stay here again!

Our room had a bright street light that shone in the room all night but it didn’t bother us. The ryokan was a very long way from the train station but was a great location for the hot pools and steamy streets.

Everything was amazing - the owners were helpful, the room was spacious and allowed us to get away from the noise. Added bonus of an open-air onsen was just a cherry on top. Onsens require no reservations, and can be used whenever they are free. There are 3 - open air traditional, closed air traditional, and closed air sauna type of bath. I'd love to come back someday.

Traditional Japanese-style ryokan allows for an authentic Japanese living experience. Ryokan has 3 private onsens, which were easy to access and great to enjoy. Owner was friendly and can also speak English.

The owner is a very kind man and the stay was incredible. It felt like magic walking around the lanes with geothermal steam coming out from everywhere, the place is alive! We absolutely loved our stay here, traditional Japanese rooms, very very clean and the outdoor onsen was just amazing.
