This is an absolutely stunning building - beautifully restored and furnished, with a really interesting history. The rooms are truly amazing - the pictures on their website really don't do the place justice! The furnishings and bedding are top class... the bedding is divine! So Soft!! It is such a unique and unusual building. The Watertoren is in a fantastic location and very easy to have a short walk or cycle into town. It is situated right next to the river, and is in a very picturesque and peaceful area. Sandra at reception was absolutely lovely and I thank her for her very warm welcome and assistance. I would 100% recommend that if you are visiting Groningen - this is absolutely the place to stay. It is an absolute gem!
The only very minor issues were that on one of the days they asked if they could come in the morning to measure some windows - which I agreed to, but I really feel like this should be done when guests are not there. Also on one of the mornings the heavy doors on the landings were constantly slamming (for at least 30 mins about 30 times too) - it was a cleaning day so I presume it was this. This was just slightly annoying. These are 2 very minor gripes and would not detract me from highly recommending the Watertoren - it is truly FABULOUS.

We were in a second floor queen apartment. The views were stunning and it had everything you'd expect in an aparthotel. Open plan living room, dining area and kitchen and separate bedroom and shower room. Only potential issue is privacy, as there is only a glass door between the living area and bedroom and the same between bedroom and shower. Thankfully the toilet is separate! It was only a 10 minute walk to the city centre and there's a Jumbo supermarket over the road for supplies. The staff also facilitated a late checkout for us on the last day when I wasn't feeling well, which was greatly appreciated.

The apartment was very spacious and well equipped. We had lovely views from the windows. It was a comfortable space for our 4 night stay. Staff were pleasant. The location was pretty good- about 15 minutes walk to the centre and there is a supermarket close by.
My main issues were the bedroom layout. The bed was pushed against a wall with no locker on either side for water/phone/books etc. Only one side had a plug. The shower room light switch was behind the headboard so it turned on randomly if you moved in the bed. There is no door to the shower room and only a blind in the shower window so the bedroom was not dark in the morning- I had to buy an eye mask. I assumed there would be some type of cleaning service but there was no change of our bins, no towels or linen change in the 4 days. We wouldn't expect it every day but assumed there would be some housekeeping over a longer stay.

Unusual hotel with lovely penthouse. Loved views and heated floors.Spacious apartment with grand kitchen+dining space+leisure room all in one Very tiny toilet and mini mini shower. There are a lot of potential for improve the design of penthouse to make it more elegant. At present very masculine snd industrial concept. Sandra - receptionist was very helpful.Ares us safe Parking for a fee. Reliable wifi.
There wad a coffee bar on 8 th floor which did not work during our stay. Booking.com sent us misleading nessage that there will be no one to meet us and that we have to check online. Check in online was stresful and did not work properly but luckily reception girl Sandra wrote us that she will be there to check us in. I think it is very important for unique hotels like Watertorren to have receptionist on site and Sandra is perfect hostess.

Beautifully converted watertower with spacious and stylish apartments. It felt really specially being so high up but in a historic building and not a soulless hotel tower! Also the staff couldn’t have been more lovely - the lady with the short hair kindly gave us a tour of the events space right at the top of the building which was amazing to see.
I would have given this a 10 if it was located a bit more centrally (however it’s in a nice residentially area about 25 mins walk from the railway station). Also the bathroom was a bit underwhelming given how enormous the apartment is!

Nice quiet location. About a 10 or 15 minute walk into the area for restaurants etc. Easy parking outside (although it is paid parking between 9am and 6pm). Check in and out was easy. Right across from a supermarket. Apartments are lovely and spacious. It was fine for what we wanted, a base at night time, didn't spend time there during the day. Bed upstairs was extremely comfortable.
The outside of the hotel is very unkept. The viewing point on the 8th floor didn't seem to be open at all only between a few hours on a Sunday. There is also seems to be no aircon in the rooms. There is some sort of a thermostat however we couldn't get temp below 21 degrees however there was a fan in the room upstairs. The mattress in the cot was very hard. I had to take the duvet off the bed downstairs to fold up and put under him. Grand for a toddler but wouldn't be safe to do that with a baby! We were also there 3 nights and there was no cleaning. I also did see some reviews about dirty bed linen and I did see some stains on the bed sheets downstairs. The stairs in the room is also very steep with narrow steps.

Beautiful apartment in excellent location close to the supermarket, bus station and very nice park. Friendly staff, there was a tea time on selected date with the view at the 8th floor with the marvelous views of the city. They sell cakes, and it was the best cake we ever had in Groningen! I give them 10 points for having a fully functional kitchen for my family, which really made a big difference having to attend my son's graduation together with my whole family from another country. We would love to come back and recommend this place.
There was a lack of communication between the staff but they were able to sort things out at the end. Having only one toilet in a two bedroom apartment is inconvenient for us sleeping at the upper floor, we had to come down the stairs whenever we had to use the bathroom. I wish they have 2 toilets and curtain on the glass walls so we have privacy at the upstairs room, it would have been perfect!

The fact that it's a converted water tower speaks for itself - it's really a one-of-a-kind experience. I had the penthouse room and you can see the entire city's skylines from every window. Apparently it's only been opened recently, but either way it looks very new and very well maintained.
Due to how the rooms are shaped there are some disadvantages - the shower is quite large, but the sink area is quite cramped, for example. Takes some getting used to, that's all. It can also get quite windy so probably a good idea to keep the windows closed overnight. Also, the elevator is probably the slowest moving elevator I've ever seen, and I've seen a few.

The location is great, and the city is wonderful. The idea of the hotel is new, it is an apartment with 2 rooms and salon. One room with single bed and one master room with king size bed which can be reached with small stairs. The apartment contains small kitchen and one bathroom and a 2 showers one in each room. the apartment is very clean.
The apartment is not quiet, we were able to hear our neighbors clearly. The elevator always late and doors is difficult to open and close.

Lovely apartment, lovely building. Helpful staff with very clear instructions about how to get in. Everything clean & working!
Two bathrooms but only one toilet between 4 guests is a shame - please put toilets in the bathrooms! Even the bedroom and bathroom doors are glass -- a mirror in the living room means you can be seen in the shower. Container for secure bike storage was appreciated but would be better if a proper bike area. Flexibility for 2nd bedroom to be 2 twin beds would allow easier hosting of families. (Or have a sofa bed)
