The manager, Sanjeewa is the nicest and friendliest person. We dropped our luggage off early and he insisted we enjoy coffee and toast etc following our journey. A simple yet kind gesture. He was both funny, friendly and helpful. We could have paid twice as much and stayed in a more modern hotel but we went economy and this hotel reflected that. It needs updating and money spent on it. However, our bed was very comfortable and the bedding and towels were pristine white and clean. We stayed one night only, for a theatre trip to The Marlowe and this was a perfect affordable stay. Sanjeewa is an asset to this accommodation and we'd stay again for his friendliness and superb location.

How place needs tlc and refurbishment

We booked the family room. It was huge, the beds were comfortable and the water in the shower hot. The continental breakfast plentiful and Sanjeewa, who checked us in and looked after us, worked very hard to make everything as good as he could. At less than 5 minutes walk from the Cathedral it was a brilliant place to stay for my daughters graduation. Given what we paid, it was absolutely adequate for a three day trip and we would come again.

The building is old, listed and quirky, which means that it's a little awkward in it's layout. The stairs are a bit twisty but it can't be helped. It's a bit shabby too but it's clean and warm and very cheap, given it's location.

Sanjeewa was incredible, he looked after my sister and me! He made it feel like a home from home and was very clear from the get-go that this was not a 5* experience haha. If you want a home-from-home experience and can look over the little things, this is the place for you. Honestly, it was all down to Sanjeewa making our stay feel so comfortable and safe. He went out of his way to make us feel so welcome and like family! Breakfast was lovely and just what we needed.

A heads up about the fire alarm tests would have been lovely hahah but great to know that they work!!

Greyfriars Lodge is ideal due to its central Canterbury location - it was clean, comfortable and the property itself was nice and quiet no nuisance guests that I was aware of.

Only gripe and this isn't at the hotel, staff or other guests. Canterbury is a student town and Fridays can be wild, I spent about 20 minutes watching a group of feral teenagers smoking some putrid substance and drinking what appeared to be bootleg moonshine, The young woman with them proceeded to violently projectile vomit across 3 out of 4 of her tribe just outside the window. Again this is not the hotels fault and to be honest im not even really moaning as it was very entertaining listening to the local wildlife chat absolute waffle whilst clearly residing on another planet altogether. Also tv remote didn't work I just wanted some music or noise no biggie just ended up using my phone

Sanjeeva was the perfect host. He really looked after us well, and cares that his guests have a good time. The room was a bit cramped for two, but only to be expected at that price. Fine for a two-night stay. Old interior wooden beams added character. The noise wasn't the fault of the hotel, from workers starting early at a building site next to it currently, and some noisy people in the street at night. Not things they can control. It's a perfect location, just a minute's walk from Canterbury's main street. A great base to explore this lovely city. Continental breakfast exceeded expectations: toast, crumpets, muffins, cereal and juice on offer. With cheese and a selection of meats. (Non-meat eater, so can't comment on these.)

Stairs were a bit difficult to manage, and not well-lit at night where the stairs are narrow and go around a corner. There are automatic lights at the top and bottom, but the corner doesn't seem to be covered. Sanjeeva took up our suitcases for us, so that was a big help. Fine for younger travellers, I would think! Bathroom was quite small, but adequate for us, with a good shower, and very clean where it matters (just the skirting boards could do with a wipe). Sink was so small it was difficult to fill the kettle or a water bottle.

Nice size room, cozy and warm, some decor needs to be touched up, but this lodge is a work in progress, and will be fantastic when finished. The location is perfect, not even a minutes walk and your in the high street, great for visits to the cathedral or marlowe theatre. Breakfast was continental, with a good selection of food and drinks. The host was lovely, very welcoming and attentive, makes all the difference to your stay if you have a great host.

Beds were a bit hard, mattress toppers would sort this.

A very convenient hotel room with easy access to transportation. The room accommodates 4 people and has an en-suite bathroom on the first floor with continental breakfast . Located in the heart of the tourist area, it’s an easy walk to Canterbury Cathedral. The host provided excellent recommendations. Highly recommended for anyone planning to visit Canterbury.

Nothing.

Fine breakfast. Very convenient location for the train station, main street and all the sights. The manager couldn't have been more helpful. Sanjeev dealt with a major plumbing problem extremely efficiently; we were in a new room in barely quarter of an hour!

Our room was a little small, but the positive aspects noted above, and the price, outweighed that. There were many loose fittings needing attention and the carpet and shower had some overlooked spots in need of further cleaning. With a bit of sprucing up the place could be excellent! (Of course it would be more costly then!)

If I had a few notes about the room, I would say the shower head could do with a swivel because it sprays at one level and I'm a little short so it hits my face! The drain was a little backed up as well but it does drain eventually. But the pressure was fine, easy to work, nice and warm. The towels also had several black marks on them so I hope they were clean and the marks were just stains!

Great central location but quiet too and with a small supermarket 30 second away. Host was delightful and nothing too much trouble. Practical and adequate continental breakfast inc in price.

If you are looking for space and luxury this isn’t for you but if you just want a base then spit on. The only downside is the chemical toilet which is noisy and the fact that loo paper has to go in a bin. The shower fixing does need attention but I pointed that out.
