An amazing hidden retreat in the Coromandel far north. Surrounded by Kiwi bush and birdsong, you'll forget all your worries and leave the place rejuvenated. We spent our days in the luxurious spa pools surrounded by ferns, serenaded by tūi, and eating delicious meals at the restaurant. The 1-bedroom chalet was huge, clean and well-equipped with a good kitchen and 1.5 bathrooms. Make sure you take supplies for meals - even though the restaurant is reasonably priced, it can get expensive for all meals. We cooked either lunch or dinner on most days. The WiFi is patchy but data signal is great. A good excuse to disconnect!! Walk to the secluded swimming hole for an adventure or drive ~10 min to Sandy Bay beach. If you're lucky, you can also catch a tour on the Kiwi Night Adventure run by the Moehau Environment Group ($10 pp for adults) and listen to kiwi calls under the starry sky.

We arrived at Tangiaro Resort on the evening of some of the worst rains ever experienced in Auckland. We left the airport as the flooding began and the drive to the Resort was challenging with heavy rain and land slips on the road. The Resort kept in contact with us and changed us to a larger cabin #14 which was lovely. Spacious rooms, large verandah, BBQ, spa bath and comfortable furniture. As it rained almost continuously for the next two days we were pleased to have such comfortable accommodation, lots of food with us and the Resort Cafe to visit. The location is very remote (14Km of gravel road to reach it) but so peaceful and surrounded by wonderful walks which sadly we could not do. Due to the weather the internet and TV were often not working so it was very much back to an old style holiday before the days of constant technology. A beautiful natural area.

Very secluded spot, which was fantastic for an escape from the office life. Thoroughly enjoyed the quiet and nature of the area. In particular, the jacuzzi and swimming holes were a real highlight.

Wish we had seen more wildlife. There are no organised activities focused on seeing wildlife, which was especially disappointing given the name of the retreat.

Breakfast was more brunch but very nice food and great facility to dine in.

Nothing, perhaps some chairs and a table on the deck would be a good idea. The bench provided was uncomfortable.

absolutely amazing house and location. I'd really love to come back oneday. Little slice of heaven in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant meal was amazing!

The only thing I could possibly say would be the bed was pretty hard. Really big bed which was awesome but quite hard.

I loved that it was in the middle of the bush, in a secluded location. There was just bird song and the wind whistling through the trees, so it was great to switch off and get a real break. You’ll need to drive on gravel road to reach the property but it’s not too bad. There is a short bushwalk on the property, which is nice. The private spa pools in the bush are amazing! Although when we used it, the mosquitoes were going crazy and stung every body part that wasn’t in the water. Maybe bring mosquito repellent! The property is close to the Coastal Walkway, which I would highly recommend.

Had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant - the food was excellent. The cabin itself was HUGE! So nice on a cold night to have a fire. Nice setting and picturesque. The location was excellent function facilities - could imagine that a weekend therefore for a wedding/ significant event would be amazing.
