The hotel is in a fantastic location, in the old town, and our room was superb, with views which are second to none. The welcome we received was amazing, and the breakfast was great. All in all, I cannot recommend the place enough.

Due to the nature of the town, there is no parking at the hotel and limited spaces available in public car parks, albeit they are free. This is not something that hotel can do anything about, and is a minor inconvenience in return for what you do get.

We loved our stay at Hotel Castillo El Collado! Javier was an exceptional host; one of the classic hoteliers with a lifetime of refined & attentive service to his guests. The castle is located in the beautiful old walled city of Laguardia with breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards & mountains We loved the delicious breakfast Javier prepared each morning for us in the elegant dining room and we loved the beautiful historic features in this centuries old stone castle! This was a fantastic place to stay in the medieval walled city of LaGuardia! Definitely a highlight of our trip! Javier made it extra special for us! He was welcoming & generously shared his deep knowledge about the castle & the area throughout our 4-day stay.

We have visited the property around 10 years ago, when you were allowed to park you car a little nearer to the hotel to empty your luggage. Now that can’t be done. If you arrive during the early afternoon parking is a challenge, you will have to carry it a fair distance either way. Once you do arrive, the welcome from who we believe is the owner, is second to none, glass of wine, water and biscuits were offered, and he even moved us to the tower room on the second night. The rooms are as far away from corporate jelly moulds as you can get, enjoy the experience, and if he offers you breakfast take the offer up.

Beds are a little too soft, and no mattress protector

Every part of our short stay, from start to finish, was delightful. Javier’s welcome and incredible personal touches throughout made this our most memorable and wonderful hotel stay ever. So many reasons why this place is special, but the incredible views from the tower, delicious breakfast spread, amazing decor and warm reception were some of the highlights. The restaurant dinner was some of the best food we enjoyed during our whole 10-day trip through Catalan and Basque areas. The family room was perfect for us with our two young ones as well. We are recommending this gem of a place to friends and family and would really love to return again one day.

The greeting we received from our host, Javier, was so warmly welcome, authentic and delightful. Javier did everything he could to make our stay unforgettable. The property itself was exceptional. We were in awe of the castle, its position, beauty, its gorgeous furnishings. The level of comfort and attention to detail was first class. Our breakfast was wonderful, healthy and fulfilling, with every need taken into account. We could not recommend the Castillo more highly. It was the highlight of our holiday.

Perfect setting, our room looked out to the Rioja vines & mountains. Quirky & interesting decor throughout. Climb up to the tower well worth the effort. Javier looked after us so wonderfully we’ll …… brought a taster of wine to our room on arrival & a bottle of iced water. Went the extra mile to get my husband a doctor’s appointment, advised on vineyard visits, very kind & thoughtful. Breakfasts abundant & plenty fruit & choice. No complaints at all

Beautiful castle hotel with wonderful views, a delicious breakfast & an extraordinary and welcoming host, Javier. When my husband dislocated his finger, Javier called the health clinic to come in on Sunday, walked us to the clinic & interpreted for us and when he needed an x-Ray that was not available in town, he contacted a private hospital in a nearby town to arrange for him to be treated. We were seen immediately and treated very well. Javier treated us like family and we highly recommend a stay at his hotel.

Hotel in an amazing location and building. BUT BEWARE despite welcoming emails before we arrived detailing special wine pairing menus and a bar with tapas - everything was closed We were travelling in the height of the holiday season (August) and at no point were restricted days or times indicated in advanced Great disappointment

The hotel is in an old castle, at the edge of the walled city and very charming. The rooms were nice with a good view of the valley. Because it is in an old castle it has many interesting spaces, includind a tower you can climb to see a 360 view of the town and surroundings

The staff was a little curt. But never enough to bother us.

Javier was an exceptional host, showing incredible hospitality and kindness. He truly cared about our entire experience in Laguardia and the surrounding area. The hotel was comfortable, clean, and in an excellent location. Say yes if he asks about making breakfast.
