Rooms when we were able to access them were of a good size, with twin rooms having two doubles.
Message from hotel on booking stated that their bar is available as an amenity for our guests and is available until last check-in. We were advised on check-in that the bar was not open. Message from hotel on booking advised that our rooms should be ready around 13.00 on day of arrival. We arrived at 12.30 to find everything closed up and no-one at reception. A young lady then arrived and advised us we could not check in until 2.00pm. We returned at 6.00pm to find keys left on reception desk but no-one on reception. We rang the advised number and eventually the owner arrived to allocate our rooms. One of the rooms was in another hotel at the back of the Caledonian.

My sister and I stayed here for 1 night, the bedroom was spacious with two lovely big double beds, the place was clean and the shower was great. I was impressed to find hot chocolate on offer as well as tea and coffee. The complimentary water, sweets and toiletries were a lovely touch. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice range the staff were also friendly and accommodating. The downside was that there was some areas unused, I'm not sure if this was due to damage or not. For us, this was a great value stay for the price that I paid and will be back.

Very nice staff, Katerina (?) who checked me in was very nice. Also the young woman at breakfast who I have been served at the bar by on previous occasions when I just called in for a drink. My mother lives just a few doors away from the hotel so I had popped in before when visiting. This time limited space at my mother's meant I needed a room and so the hotel was the logical choice. The location is excellent, less than 10 minutes walk from the rail station and so close to town. Breakfast looked and smelt amazing though I had no time to stay on this occasion. Overall a good value hotel, nothing fancy but for the price it offers great value. Clean, friendly, central, free WiFi, ensuite and a generous hot breakfast. For £66 you can't go wrong.
Nothing really to dislike.

Such a good location to get the bus from Lockerbie train staton, walk into Dumfries town & catch local buses. Courteous staff, sparkling clean room with warm bedding & kettle/ room supplies, TV, ensuite bathroom / shower and excellent buffet breakfast including hot & cold food.
Wish we could have pushed our single beds together! But bedside table with lamp in between- there was elegant traditional furniture so we understand guests shouldn’t move it around! Could do with more phone charging sockets.

The staff to start with, were amazing. The property looks great and it is very close to the centre which for me was great. The room was very nice, the beds were comfortable and you had a nice welcome pack in the rooms with bottled water, biscuits, sweets, tea, coffee, etc. Definitely a place to stay again when I'm next in the area.
If, and I mean IF, I had to point out anything, would be the fact that they no longer serve meals. However, this may be due to the effects of the Covid lockdowns, which saw a fair amount of these facilities in smaller hotels come to a close. However, with the increase amount of local businesses joining the likes of Just Eat, there are plenty of options available which will deliver, or alternatively, a quick look on the Internet or by speaking to the staff, and am sure you would be able to find some good local recommendations.

Everything was fabulous. The staff were friendly & helpful from arrival to departure. Parking was free & right outside the front door. The rooms were really clean & there was a lovely selection of complimentary drinks & biscuits - there was even hot chocolate. The breakfast was exceptional- fresh, hot, tasty & plentiful. We would 100% stay here again. Thank you for your hospitality 😀
The only minor thing is that the bedroom floor was a little uneven in places.

The Caledonian Hotel offers a delightful stay in Dumfries. Its convenient location near the train station and town center allows easy access to all that Dumfries and its surroundings have to offer. During my stay in a single-bed room, I was pleased to find it equipped with all the amenities one would expect and desire. What sets the Caledonian apart from other budget chain hotels and even some larger, well-known brands is its status as a small, independent hotel. This personal touch creates a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere that is evident throughout the property. The friendly and helpful staff further enhance the overall experience. I wholeheartedly recommend the Caledonian Hotel to fellow travelers.

Location very good walking distance into town and on bus route if needed. Staff pleasant and helpful. Rooms well attended every day. Bed really comfortable and windows could be opened to keep the room cool if required. Heavy Curtains kept the room nice and dark also aided a good nights sleep. Rooms refreshed daily with tea coffee etc which was great and a decent sized kettle and mugs. Our room was really quiet which was great for a good nights sleep. Breakfast was excellent and well presented everything you could want to set you up for the day. Staff worked very hard to keep the hotel clean at all times.

Room ok but felt a little dated, but given the location and price this was fine for us for one night. Left our motorbikes and several others there no issues, plus nice and easy to walk into the main town for a few beers.
Breakfast was a duffy style and was ok but wouldn't add it to my booking next time, plus where you pick it from the area is way too dark. Didn't like that the front door is left unlocked all the time.

Breakfast was good and location good for my needs. Was impressed with the little extra’s water, sweets, biscuits.
Couldn’t get subtitles of the tv spent ages going through all the menu settings to no avail. Floors were very creaky but understandable for an old building. Layout of the room i had had a secondary door just next to mine so when the room occupants next to me entered or exited you had a double whammy of doors banging. Bathroom looking a bit tired and little part of ceiling beside light fitting needs attention.
