Construction noise, lack of ventilation, and staff intrusion. The location was great and it was a spacious room. But at 6:30 am the construction noise was awful. The room was hot, so we had the tiny window open to try to cool it. There was construction across the street, but worse was in the building. Earplugs didn’t help, the vibrations from the drilling were strong. At 9am (checkout was 11) the cleaning lady knocked and walked in our room, disregarding the ‘do not disturb’ sign. This could be a great hotel. The blond gal that checked us in and out was exceptionally kind and helpful. Large room, common area was great, with so much room to relax. Breakfast was fine, but crowded.

We could not fault Hotel Akureyri on anything, the room was immaculately clean, the bed was comfy, the view was fantastic. Everything was just so well thought out. The breakfast went beyond our expectations, so much to choose from and the staff worked tirelessly to keep everything restocked, so even if you come down for breakfast late, you still get exactly the same as you would if you got up at 6. The communal areas are well designed, the bar is lovely and had a large selection of drinks The location of the hotel is perfect, lovely views of the sea, it is the first stop on the airport bus route so you're there in about 5 minutes. Very short walk into town and has lovely walks around it up to the botanical gardens or along the sea front. We would very much recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Akureyri and can not wait to come back!

Maybe a little more storage for in the rooms for clothes

Absolutely exceptional place. The staffs were amazingly friendly, the breakfast great selection, and the room was so elegantly designed. To some, the room may be on the smaller side, but really, if you're doing a short stay, its really more than enough. Just take a moment to enjoy and notice all the small details that this family had spent time and effort putting into every little thing they present (the toilet paper, the glazed cups, the umbrella!....so many little charming details).

Beautiful hotel and lobby. Really loved the decor and the vibe of the staff and happy hour in the lobby. I think the lobby was the best thing about the city! We spent a lot of time in it. The bedrooms were super new and well designed and incredibly comfortable beds and sheets.

Don't really want to dock points on this but i found it a bit frustrating... We were put in their "new" building. The rooms were all done and very clean and new but it isn't a working hotel at all. The entrance was a construction zone as well as the "lobby" or what will be the lobby and even in the hallways was items that will eventually go into the rooms. We felt a bit excluded and don't think it should be opened until the full hotel is especially if we are paying the same price

Location of the property is ideal for the quaint Rooms are renovated and super clean. Beds are cosy and comfortable with whitest, Softest and smoothest bed linen!! Staff are very polite and courteous. Daniel was exceptional he is very hospitable and kind. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Akureyri.

The breakfast could be varied a little while it was good quality I stayed for 4 days and it was the same each morning. In the newer building I stayed the halls are hard flooring and it was frustrating hearing people walk all nigh to their rooms. The locks on the doors are very very poorly designed you have to slam them shut and when trying to sleep you can hear every door opening. The shower screens are very small and water goes everywhere in the bathroom. The light switches on the walls are so far from the bed you need to get out of bed to turn them off.

Great location, great breakfast selection and comfy beds!

It can get busy at breakfast to the point where it gets difficult to find a seat. We still really much liked our stay, there‘s just a few minor things that seem a little „not thought through“: the elevator is busy in peak times and takes a while which can be a little frustrating especially if you’d only need to go up 1 floor - couldn’t find a staircase to use which isn’t just a fire escape. The sink is too small to properly wash your face but then the window or coat hangers are super high up so not sure if it was built for short or tall people. Nonetheless definitely recommendable and a really nice building!

Fresh and new hotel, good central location, great breakfast in a stylish room, nice lounge zone

The main strange thing is that the room card stops working at exact checkout time at 11, and locks you out. So, if you want to get the last bag, it’s impossible - you are unauthorized to enter. We’ve never experienced this shutting treatment and exactly the minute checkout closes. If they are so strict, which is strange, this needs to be alarmed upon checked in and reminded. Most rooms have views either of a construction building or a wall of mud, so no daylight comes to the rooms and no views should be expected. Sink is too small and shower not properly designed, so too much water on the floor.

One of the better-designed hotels we stayed at during our trip to Iceland. Overall, most things were fine. The interior was modern, clean, and thoughtfully decorated, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The room was comfortable and quiet, which made for a great night’s sleep. Staff were helpful and check-in was smooth. While there’s always room for small improvements, we were generally very satisfied with our stay and would be happy to return.

The breakfast area is absolutely terrible – I’ve never seen anything like it. The hotel was full of guests, but the space allocated for breakfast was extremely small, with just a few tables – literally, only a few. You could sit in the hotel lobby to eat, but if you forgot a fork, you had to walk across half the hotel to get one. It was clear that many guests were equally surprised and confused by such poor organization.

We liked almost everything. The location is perfect, walking distance to the very centre of the city. We were accommodated in the new hotel building. The room was very good and clean. Breakfast was more than fine, too. The hotel offered great value for money, especially considering how incredibly expensive accommodation in Iceland usually is.

They have obviously opened the new hotel building recently, which means a lot more hotel guests. Breakfast was still served only in the tiny room in the old building which caused a complete chaos in the morning. They however apologized for this inconvenience and said they were working on solving this.
