We had a brilliant stay in this lovely hotel. Location is great, facilities are awesome. Brilliant service at reception and from the busboys! We only stayed overnight, but it was the 31st and there was a lovely NYE dinner.

The only thing that was not up to standard was our waitress at the NYE dinner - she didn't know the menu, gave us incorrect information which influenced our choices only to realize the order that was made was completely wrong (like bacon to a vegetarian.) This is easily fixable but instead of accepting her mistake she argued that we had made the mistake not her and then proceeded to make mistakes with the drinks order for the rest of the evening as well. In order to preserve the peace and ambience for the evening and for our trip, I didn't pursue it further. But it definitely soured our experience.

Beautiful hotel full of character. Great care taken to detail. Good secure parking-even a few undercover spots for guests which was appreciated. Lovely bar area with view of mountains. Spacious bedroom with well set up kitchenette. Neat little double door fridge which was useful for refreezing our ice blocks for travelling.

Dinner at Charleston's restaurant disappointing and expensive. Food and service mediocre even though we were the only diners there at the time. Pity as have enjoyed lunch and the pub menu at the hotel on previous occasions which was excellent. Would definitely stay at the hotel again but would make alternative dinner arrangements.

We enjoyed the beautiful gardens and the two swimming pools the most. It is also very central and easy to walk everywhere. The dining room is located in a pretry setting overlooking the garden and the breakfast was sumptuous. It was neat and clean and nicely decorated. We enjoyed the wooden floors and the fascinating history of the hotel. The tourist office is also on location , so information and ideas of what to do are very accessible. We enjoyed the historical walking tour with the aid of a pamphlet.

Although the surface area is very clean, a bit more attention could be given to cleaning inside the bedside pedestals and wardrobe. The fridge was also not as clean as it should be inside. The room was relatively small, although it did have two comfortable chairs. I am sure this was a temporary disadvantage, but there was scaffolding and lots of flaked paint and dust on the area outside our second-storey window. We would otherwise have had a beautiful view.

In summary, the Montagu Country Hotel offers a perfect blend of historical charm and modern comfort. It’s an ideal retreat for those who appreciate exquisite design, exceptional service, and a touch of nostalgia. Highly recommended for a unique and memorable stay. We’ll definitely be back!

There is truly nothing to fault. It was one of the most charming and best run hotels we have ever stayed at.

Pastries (at breakfast) and cakes in other places of the hotel was exceptional. Booked the Cadillac, great experience and worth the money. The history of hotel and old look make it warm and enjoyed to be there. Art deco theme of the hotel beautiful.

The cooked part of the breakfast can do with a bit of colour. Sausages - both choices tasteless and bleak - not tasting like pork or beef (beef even tasted off). Bacon could have a bit more colour. Eggs is eggs, so not much can go wrong there. Shower door of our room did not stay closed, had to improvise with towels

We have stayed here 6 times and love the hotel. Great food and just generally a pleasant vibe.

I did not pay proper attention to our room choice as we have always enjoyed the great rooms and comfortable bathrooms. This time I booked an Art Deco room ( not luxury) as it was all that was available in the room category. The pricing was similar to what we paid before so no concern. The room was fine, but the bathroom was the size of what one expect on a train. I complained ( nicely) and they offered us another room, same category, but with an acceptable bathroom size which we moved to. They did take time to chat and offer us a tour of the room categories for future bookings. We stayed in the self catering before which is 3 x the size, 3 beds, and has a kitchenette for less than the the Art Deco room . It’s on the premises right next to the dining room, so why cheaper ?

Nice old country Hotel with lots of Art Deco furnishings.If you like new,this will not be for you.Lovely terrace for a drink..we got a complimentary glass of Muscadel on arrival...had dinner there.Not outstanding,but good fresh food.Nice gardens and 2 pools.There is a small Spa...which we did not use.Lots of eateries etc around if you do not want to eat at the hotel.Breakfast was nice...Buffet for cold stuff and a menu for the cooked food.No extra charge.The is a travel agent on the terrace..they can arrange many things if you do not know what to do...Hot Springs is about 10 min drive away.

This hotel is very nice indeed. Right in the main road and central to all that happens in Montagu. The parking is very safe which is a biggie for me - it meant we didn't have to take everything out of the car overnight. It has two great swimming pools - when we arrived, it was very hot and a dip (a long swim I might add) was very welcome. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Recommended hotel.

The supper was a (I felt) a bit overpriced for what we got. My bobotie was a bit watery and quite expensive for what we got. My wife had a plate of pasta which was average.

There were two breakfast options to choose from. A hot and a cold breakfast. We chose the hot breakfast. We had lovely scrambled eggs, mushrooms, beef bangers, bacon, baked beans and unlimited toast with lovely local jams to choose from. The orange juice was tasty and refreshing. The staff made as feel at home and walked the extra mile.

We wanted to eat at the hotel's restaurant during our stay. But, it was very expensive. You have to pay separately for the meat and sides which makes it even more expensive. It would be nice if they do not only keep the tourists in mind but, also cater for South African citizens. Not everyone wants to pay R300 for a piece of meat and a side.

We were a group of friends who stayed for one night, Love the old world feel, beautiful gardens and Art Deco furniture. We did not have dinner at the hotel, but it seemed warm and cosy with a pianist, and a fireplace going when we walked through. Breakfast was good, with a spread to choose from, plus an option of ordering hot.

Our bathroom ( Toilet & separate shower that had been added onto - to make a double shower, has a bump between the two, which caused it to be slippery) with a single basin in the bedroom. For one night it was fine, but if we stayed longer could be an issue. Our friends' bathrooms were big and spacious.
