This is like a little oasis tucked away behind an international rail station - you can hear the odd train rumble but could otherwise be fooled that you were in the heart of the countryside. This very historic building and its setting is superb, with fantastic attention to detail in everything from the furnishings to the garden, which I could have wandered around for hours. The dinner was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful. I would definitely visit this hotel again.
My only gripe is that I couldn't get the coffee machine in our bedroom to work and nor could I manage to open the sealed bottle of milk, so I'd suggest having instant coffee and milk sachets available.

We spent a one night stay to meet up with relatives who live nearby and had a convivial lunch together. The gardens were looking lovely in the Spring sunshine. Without exception the staff were friendly and professional. Our room, Franklin, was comfortable but lacked a second easy chair. There was no TV which normally would be no problem but meant that an important sporting event was missed in the evening which was a shame. Overall an excellent venue.

Hotel and gardens beautiful. Food was outstanding. The service could not be faulted. Every member of staff was polite, friendly and could not have been more helpful. They clearly were careful in selecting and training all the staff. Difficult to imagine how our stay could have been any better.

The reception and staff were attentive and accommodating 10/10, and a perfect welcome was received. The grounds were beautiful even on a murky day. The rooms were, as you would expect for an old property, however for the price paid one would expect a small tv or refrigerator in the room. The beds and bedding were superb insomuch as both comfortable and exceptionally crisp and clean. However the rooms (we hadbooked 2 rooms for the stay) were quite cold at night time. The restaurant in itself was a delight, staff superb and the food second to none both in quality, presentation and brought out hot. We would definitely visit again but to dine only.
The rooms were clean but the facilities within were not worth the money paid. It was a birthday overnight stay for 4 guests. No small fridge within the room or a tv (we like early morning news with our coffee ).

The property is absolutely stunning, most beautiful hotel I’ve ever stayed in! The gardens are out of a fairytale, the interior design of the hotel is tasteful and filled with beautiful little details. You could spend so much time just observing and admiring the beauty of this place, a pleasure on its own. The staff is kind and helpful, you can see that they are very well trained. The parking has plenty of space, and it is free. Overall, we were really impressed by the beauty of the hotel, its history, and the magnificent gardens. We will definitely be staying again!
If you travel with small children (especially ones with light sleep) it might be less ideal - we travelled with our own 1 year old daughter. The floors crack a lot, and you can hear people walking above you (but that’s due to the nature of the hotel, which we accept and find reasonable from such an old property). Also, we were given a baby cot for free, however there was no mattress on the cot. The staff applied a folded sheet and towel to provide some cushioning. Luckily we had our own cot and mattress in the car, which we had brought along for our stay in a different hotel, so we used our own. Lastly, in the booklet provided in the room, it mentions that coffee and tea are locally sourced and are complimentary, however we were charged for coffee during breakfast, which created a little confusion but was also acceptable.
