The location of the County Hotel Takayama is fantastic - right across the street from the train station. I've stayed here before and enjoy the simple but ample buffet breakfast served at the restaurant. It's easy to walk around to restaurants, shops, etc.. Room rate was a bargain. The staff is always helpful and polite. I like that there is a coin laundry - very reasonably priced. There's a Family Mart right downstairs and fantastic Hida beef burgers across the street. I like that you can open the window and let fresh air in the room.

I've stayed here before but this time, the bed that I got was so hard and uncomfortable. Also, you only get one small pillow so I use my travel pillow in addition to for more comfort.

The location was the main draw for me as it was right across JR Takayama Station and Nohi Bus Station so it was very easy to travel around. There's also a konbini nearby. I also liked the breakfast spread very much! I looked forward to my Japanese breakfast buffet every morning. Room and bed were definitely a lot bigger than what you would get at bigger cities! 😊

I dont dislike anything really. The hotel is a little dated and a little musky, but that is too be expected from a hotel in a small city. The hotel is perfectly functional and if you're looking for value for money, you get what you pay for. Maybe the old elevator? Nah, that's not even a big problem to me.

Exceptional hotel! The staff are extremely friendly and the location is superb! Being right above a Family Mart, and right across the street to Takayama Station, it is definately the best value hotel in that area. The facilities were clean, and theres also housekeeping every morning! The pixtures might make the hotel seem old and eerie, but thats not the case! There are many tourists in and out of the hotel so you definately feel safe

If you book the smoking allowed room like me, you will notice a cigarette smoke smell as you enter the room for the first time but it will go away after a few minutes of getting used to

Very convenient to just cross a not so busy road from Takayama station to the hotel. Bus terminals for local loop buses and buses to other cities like Shinjuku or shirakawago are also directly opposite the hotel. There are a few hotels just a stone’s throw away from the station/bus terminal . So worth comparing prices. Walkable distance to local famous streets and also there’s a 7-11 downstairs. Some nice souvenir shops and pharmacy along the same street within 1-2 blocks.

Only one key is provided, all other hotels we have been to provide at least 2 ‘keys’. Their key to room is rather unique, not a card. You have to give the key to reception when you go out. I guess there have been cases of lost keys before.

The location is exceptional. Right across from Takayama train station and the Nouhi Bus Terminal.

The room i booked for one person is the perfect size. The bed is a little firm for my liking . They only provided one pillow but they were happy to provide an additional when I requested. Its minor but an older staff at the reception refused to let me borrow a pen. The other younger staff was willing to lend it to me but was stopped by the older staff. All the staff were friendly and accommodating and was happy to help except one .

This budget hotel far exceeded my expectations. It is literally across the road from Takayama train and bus station and an easy walk to the historic sights, attractions and places to eat. While dated, the rooms were neat, clean and comfortable with more facilities than hotels twice its price. The breakfast was a buffet style affair with lots of choice, both Japanese and western cuisine. A complete bargain at £37 (May 24) for a small twin en suite room with breakfast. Staff were all lovely and accommodating with good English. Well done Country Hotel Takayama. A 4 star hotel in 2 star clothing.

Two things, one the separate top sheet and then duvet tends to strangle you in the night, just a duvet without top sheet would be better though that is personal preference. The en suite bath is rather bijou and a 6ft westerner might need a winch to get them out. It does also drain into the bathroom floor but I think that’s how it’s designed to work. Just nit picking. This place is great for budget travellers or those who prefer to spend their money on seeing places rather than swanky hotel rooms.

This hotel represented exceptional value for money; I got a single room with en-suite bathroom for little more than the cost of a capsule hotel or dormitory bed. The room was fairly small, but this is normal for Japanese hotels. The staff all spoke English, everything was spotlessly clean and there were fine views of the hills from the window. It is located just across the road from the railway station which is very convenient when arriving with all your luggage, although I suppose meant it was a little bit further from the main sights and attractions,

Great location - right at the bus terminal with souvenir stores and a convenience store downstairs. Breakfast was awesome. Functional room although very compact (small like an inside cabin on a cruise)

It was not easy to carry the luggage and walk to the 2nd floor for check-in. Only after checking in did we find out that there is an elevator on the other side of the building that one can take and go to 2/F for reception. Every time we went out we needed to hand back the key and leave with the receptionist. And there was no verification to get back our key when we returned. While we understood that they don't want travellers to lose the keys, from my perspective I hesitated to hand in the key because of our valuables inside the room, and I didn't feel safe with the key just put on their counter, and without any verification, we just got our key back by telling our room numbers.

The hotel is located right in front of the train and bus station, there is a Family Mart just below the hotel, the old part of town is a 5 min walk away from the hotel. The staff is very kind, polite and professional. The breakfast was amazing and a reallyngood value for money. They even offer iced coffee. The room was pretty small, in a typical japanese fashion, but it was very clean.

The bed is a bit too hard. I was still able to sleep just fine, but would prefer a slightly softer bed.

The location was just right opposite the station, room was spacious enough to fit two of my luggages, and staff was very friendly. I had a breakfast included, it was nice buffet type breakfast with a mix of japanese and western style dishes.

I stayed at the beginning of November, the nights were a bit cold but there was no heating system in the room. And also, there could be a bit brighter lighting in the desk/bed area as in the evening it was a bit too dark. Apart from that, everything was perfect.
