Iowa House was charming and comfortable, a great setting for our overnight getaway. Although there was no staff at check in, when we had a question about the heating unit, our text was answered immediately with a phone call. The bedding was downy soft, and the room very quiet. We had no idea there were even other guests present. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious (thank you, Kendra!) My husband and I agreed the breakfast added a $30 value to our reservation. We definitely want to stay here again on our next visit to Ames!

It took a while for the heating unit to warm our room on this February night. You should also know most rooms require you to carry your luggage up stairs.

The hotel has a wonderful old-world ambience but has all the modern amenities. It is possibly the only hotel located inside the ISU campustown with everything conveniently reachable in walking distance. The rooms and bed are exceptionally clean and very comfortable, and the large windows provide wonderful views of the serene neighborhood. I also suspect that the hot breakfast served here (with eggs made to order) is possibly the best in Ames. Staff at the breakfast table are friendly and accommodating.

I booked three nights on booking.com and then extended the stay for another three nights at the hotel. I later noticed that the rate charged on extension was significantly higher than the rate offered by booking.com for the same room on the same days. Therefore, I would recommend booking this hotel via booking.com instead of a direct booking. Other than this, I found the hotel to be exceptional and charming.

Our son is a freshman at Iowa State and we stayed here once before on a visit and loved it. This time we stayed was during a huge snow storm and the temps were -10. This added hours on to our drive from Chicago. When we got there we were beyond stressed. This place was the perfect way to relax. We brought a bottle of wine with us and found the little common room in the basement with the comfy couch and big screen TV and that's where we stayed under a warm blanket. That sure beats the sterile rooms and halls of a regular hotel. This was exactly what we needed to de-stress and prepare for the next day's drive.

The only thing is that we were in room 101 which is beautiful and we loved it. However there is no room number label so it took us a while to find it. They left a floor plan, but we were too stressed and cold from our drive to figure it out, so this is probably on us.

We were only here for one night. Nice B&B, quiet and comfortable in a historic house. Easy parking and self-check in. Room was spacious and clean but dated. Breakfast room was nice but a huge amount of processed food, lots of packaging and plastic. The warm breakfast sandwich they offered was ok and homemade.

Excellent breakfast cooked for us. Excellent location near the University. Good looking historic building. Cozy room. Clean. Would book again.

There was a funny smell in the bathroom, and with the room freshener plugged into the wall, I think it was not temporary. Not overwhelming. The paint was peeling on the bathroom pipe. Hall carpet was a little dark and worn.

Great location near ISU! Nice rooms with comfortable bed. Nice breakfast offerings with snacks and water available.

Stairs were not fun to bring luggage up. Not that big a deal.

The facility keeps coffee and snacks out for guests throughout the day, very nice if you happen to get in late or come down late for breakfast. The location of the home is exception, a nice walk to the downtown. Safe and clean neighborhood. The room is well furnished, clean and spacious bathroom.

hard to say what I didn't like. The furnishings and amenities are well done.

Nice to stay in a cozy home rather than a conventional chain hotel, and close to ISU campus. Nice decor, excellent room, well equipped.

Entering with a code always leaves me nervous… what if it does not work? This time, it only worked in one of the two available doors to enter the building.

This is my second time staying at the Iowa House. I grew up in Ames, and come back often to see friends and family. I've decided I will not stay anywhere else, except here. So homey, exceptionally clean and the hot breakfast in the morning and 24/7 snacks are great! Love love love!! Thank you all! See you soon!

The kitchen area was great accommodation. The loft in the room was nice. The location was great for Iowa Sate campus. Easy to access. Friendly.

Carpet was a little mangy/dirty looking, but no big deal. The room fridge was in the bathroom, just a bit off setting and weird. The lock on the door was strange and i wasn't certain it locked.
