It was a very authentic stay in a castle property. I can tell the owners put in alot of work into ensuring the property was preserved to the medeival times. The gardens are so beautiful, and a relaxing walk through the gardens while I stayed made the visit.

I wasn’t a fan of how busy the property is- when I arrived there was a garden market which made it extremely busy to visit the castle and the garden. I decided to wait until the morning to visit the garden and was so serene - until a group of school aged children were admitted. I wasn’t expecting the property to be so commercial, although I know it’s important to bring in revenue it really dampened the stay. I also felt a bit clasterphobic in the rooms not being able to open any windows, and it was quite dark.

Hotel Rivau is absolutely stunning. It has beautiful rooms, large, clean and with lovely touches such as chocolates, robes, bottle water. Attention to detail was very high. The grounds are exceptional. There was a garden trail with a map which was so adorable. Peacocks in the grounds too. The food was sensational and cooked with all local produce. The chef even came out to speak with the guests to explain his menu. Will need to come back

Extraordinary setting, surrounded by stunning gardens. The breakfast was wonderful and served with kindness. The rose festival was taking place, it was well organised and enhanced my stay.

The restaurant, The Secret Garden was overpriced and the food not good, however the staff were polite and professional. I would not recommend.

A memorable experience staying in a beautiful chateau, with the gardens for our use in the evenings after the public had gone. The art in the chateau is eye-opening!

Unfortunately the night we stayed (Tuesday) the restaurant was closed so we had to drive the 10km to Chinon to go to a restaurant (Chinon is v nice though!)

We’ve stayed in a few chateaux in the Loire but Rivau was exceptional as it allows you to visit the gardens after it closes to the public and before it opens. Your stay also provides free entry to the chateau. The rooms are stunning and very comfortable.

Nothing! If we had to comment, the buffet breakfast probably wasn’t the best but still very nice with local produce and quite a bit of choice

The breakfast was superb. The staff were very nice. our meal at the restaurant was wonderful. i am very interested i art and the chateaux's art exhibition was amazing and a complete suprise. We really enjoyed our walk around the gardens on our own in the morning. looking forward to trying your wine at christmas. We bought a case.

absolutely nothing

We booked the suite which was spacious. My toddlers enjoyed their castle-stay experience! Dinner at the hotel (need to reserve in advance) was also really enjoyable. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Breakfast excellent

The secret garden restaurant poor food and wine by the glass was acidic and old. A poor experience and hugely overpriced for the food and wine quality which is a pity as it lets the hotel down

The chateau is unbelievably good; it is just like a dream: a fairytale. We arrived late and were guided to the secret garden restaurant. What an astonishing location for a restaurant within the castle. The food was the best food we have enjoyed in France and all the better for the beautiful location. Service was incredible. The chateau accommodation was a delight and magical. This is top class accommodation with incredible views of the main chateau building. The breakfast was excellent. Overall, a high quality stay in a magical, fairytale chateau. The owners have clearly taken great care to make the chateau perfect. Thank you so much.

It is rare to arrive at a property and find that it looks even better than it did online. The chateau is truly stunning, the gardens are beautiful, the room and bathroom were beautifully appointed and everything was of the highest quality. The bedrooms themselves are in the converted stables, with views over the chateau and garden (photo is of our view). The materials used in the conversion are outstanding and the owners’ taste and vision are apparent everywhere.

The internet was a public Wi-Fi and hard to log into. For future guests to be aware, it is not a hotel but rather an extremely high end B and B!
