The location in the main square is excellent. There's a nice, large lounge and a separate bar area. Breakfast was fine. Staff were pleasant. The room and bathroom were not unlike those at a standard Premier Inn.

There didn't appear to be either a socket near the bed or a tea/coffee maker (just a kettle), as given in the room description. After booking, I received various marketing messages from the hotel group, which I had to ask them to stop sending. The bathroom sink was nearly blocked and the shaver point wasn't working (so we couldn't charge up our electric toothbrush). It was a pity, as I'd rung ahead and asked whether there was a shaving point in the bathroom (but neglected to ask whether it was working!). I reported both of these issues during our stay but they weren't fixed.

Asked for an early check in as needed to be at a wedding reception and that was fine. Asked for taxi details and was given a choice of 4 (and luckily used the best, Kings Abbey). On arrival receptionist, Joe, was really welcoming and very helpful in sorting the rooms out as we had three rooms in total. Rooms were very comfortable, well laid out with good amount of space so we weren't tripping over things. Nice bathroom, lovely shower. Tea making facilities & TV all good. Beds were very comfy and nice that they had put a fan in the room as it was warm at night but that took the edge of that.

Not the hotel's fault this, but the people in the room next to us put their TV on at 8am very loudly and unfortunately it wasn't a very thick wall between us so was heard clearly through it. Our alarm was set for 8.30am anyway so wasn't the biggest issue but had we been wanting a lie in that would have been a bigger issue.

Good very comfortable hotel good staff good location.

Parking is not free in hotel or car parks even with disabled badge which is an extra cost. Now I'm not a fan of buffet style breakfast because other guests don't seem to know what tongs are for to PICK up your bread I saw one lady put her hand to cough then straight into the bread with her contaminated hand have we learnt nothing from covid so I just had hot drinks so no lovely breakfast for me but it looked a lovely breakfast just the GUESTS who ruined it has usual. PLEASE use the TONGS.

The grand reception is incredibly suave, filled with antique yet modern-styled furniture with a bar/cafe for any morning hunger. The staff were incredibly friendly not only whilst checking in but during my stay too. The room was decently clean and spacious for two people, including all the necessities one might need for a great stay at a wonderful hotel. The beds were comfortable, the pillows plush, and the sheets ever so soft. After a great night's sleep, we proceeded to checkout by dropping our key cards off at reception it was swift and smooth sailing. Overall would stay again in this humble yet grandiose abode.

A dog kept humping my leg during breakfast and my sunny-side eggs had googly eyes glued to them for whatever reason.

A lot grander than I was expecting! which was lovely for for my travel companion (my mum). Bedroom was a good size for twin beds, and very comfortable. Really good late afternoon dinner on the Sunday - the staff were very amenable and accommodating on the set menu. Perfect location to nip across the market place for an evening show at the Corn Exchange. Brilliant central location, and nice to have the use of the hotel carpark. (Very happy to have paid extra for that.)

The constant noise of an outside generator that was attached to a nearby restaurant Even with windows closed (and we were on the the third floor). If we'd been staying more than one night I'd have asked to move rooms to the other side of the corridor. Just be ware, if you're a light sleeper, and if the generator is still there! That was the only thing I didn't like, and that was out of the hotel's control.

Beautiful hotel, with lots of history in the old section. Great bar, and lovely lounge to relax in. Nice room, good breakfast, and great situation overlooking the market square.

I'm reluctant to mention this, as it was one of those things that couldn't be helped, but the lift was out of order on the night and following morning we were there. We were staying on the fourth floor, so this posed a major problem for my 90-year-old travel companion. The staff helped with our luggage in the morning, but couldn't do much to assist my friend.

Nice room in the original part of the hotel. Good heating for this time of year, so nice comfy room. Staff very helpful and attentive. Nothing seemed to much trouble. Nice touch on our last night when we told them we were celebrating our 38th weeding anniversary. Our first drink at the evening meal was on them, We Took a group of Masons to this Hotel in 2015 for a ladies Night and it didn't disappoint us this time either.

As we stayed for 4 nights, we found the meal choice a little stayed, It would have been nice to have had a larger choice of meals to improve the options each night

We loved the clean tidy rooms, asked for our 5 rooms to be close together, which they were. Check in easy, car park at back of hotel excellent Booked evening meal before we arrived by emailing reception, confirmation was instant. Our tv didn't work but was rectified immediately. The stay, hotel and staff were excellent it was just let down by one person which is a shame as a beautiful place.

Before arriving I emailed and asked reception if it was possible to have a table of 8 for breakfast, and they said they would have a word with the staff on duty. On first morning one of the friends on entering the breakfast room explained that we had requested a table for 8, only to be met by a very rude lady saying we don't do that, we explained we had an evening meal for 8 and so surely we could have a table for breakfast. No you can't, go sit down the end there was the reply, so hence the second night we went out for a meal elsewhere. Also the music was very loud for breakfast could do with being turned down a bit, as dancing queen and relax by frankie goes to Hollywood needs saving for later

we stopped at the Dukes head friday to Monday, all staff were great, our room was at the back of hotel was small than thought, but very comfortable, they were very helpful move us to a larger posher room in the older part of hotel, when our toilet got a leak, we didn't ask they just offered, food was great, last day breakfast wasn't as good as the other days, on last day manager spoke to us to make sure room was OK and apologies for the inconvenience of having to move. We was there as visiting friends and it was in the lovely square with everything in walking distance and ferry ride to the other side. Yes we going to stop again

only down side was having to pay £10 each day to stay in hotel parking at back. The first room was what they call cozy room I had move bed over so could get down side of bed, so make sure you look at pictures etc when booking, oh and no TV in new room which they seem shocked , we managed as only 1 night lol. I would advise take own hair dryer as ones they got on wall in bathroom wasn't the easiest to use as had to stand all time and hard to use , well for me wasn't very good ,

Room was nice and spacious and the bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly

Toilet seat was very loose. Shower was very hot even on the lowest setting. There appeared to be a small leak from the rear of the toilet. TV could be bit bigger.. Based on on-line comments I am concerned about 15 min grace period from entering the car park to paying the car parking fee (the £10 daily parking fee is acceptable). Lots of minor delays could easily push you over the 15 mins - I'm concerned that I may have a PCN in the post).
