Our stay at The Emerald Hotel was truly memorable. We were in room 907 on one of the top floors, and the view over the city was absolutely stunning. The room was spotless, and every staff member we encountered was welcoming and kind. We want to give a special thanks to Sokmeng, who went far beyond any expectations. When we asked her about Khmer specialties, she didn’t just give recommendations—she offered to take us around the city on her day off to experience the local culture firsthand. Her warmth and generosity were remarkable, making our stay feel genuinely special. Thank you, Emerald Hotel, for such an incredible experience, and especially to Sokmeng for showing us the heart of this city. We’ll always remember this stay with fondness and appreciation.
One note for light sleepers: at night, you can sometimes hear music from the bar across the street. It wasn’t an issue for us, as we slept with earplugs, but it might be helpful for others to know.

New building, so all facilities are currently in great condition. There is a nice mezzanine floor where you can work remotely. It's outside the main city center, but there are still lots of restaurants around, and it's a short walk from the genocide museum.
The bunks in the dorms are super loud and squeaky. You'll also have no privacy whether you're on the top or bottom bunk. Considering it's more expensive than other hostels in the city, I expected better quality beds. Overall things seem clean because the building is new, but the first dorm bathroom I was in smelt like urine and the women's bathroom on the second floor never got cleaned the 4 days I was there - empty toilet rolls and rubbish bins full with the same rubbish. The condition will deteriorate quickly if they don't maintain the place properly. A few staff members were friendly, but there were also a couple of rude ones, too.

The dorm was very clean and comfortable. The shower had hot water, there was air conditioning and you have locker space (although you can't fit a backpack, only valuables and clothes). The staff were friendly and helpful. There's a large common room area. The location is great for food, S21 is very close, there are lots of atms and shops nearby. It's very easy to get grab tuk tuks from here.
As it's a relatively new hotel, they do not have any tours on offer but have contacts for tuk tuk and taxi drivers. The staff do try to help by researching Google for you. The location is a little further from most of the attractions but you can get around this by getting a tuk tuk to the first place you want to visit, then walking to the ones nearby there. Locals that were staying in the dorm tended to noisily arrive back late at night and wake me up but this is part of staying in a dorm. The laundry service is expensive if you don't have many things to wash but cheap if you have a lots of things.

- I liked the staff. They are modern friendly city people who do care about their job. I felt I could trust them. - Everything was new in the dorm. - I was happy that the dorm had NO bed bugs which are common in Phnom Penh hostels. - Cleanliness - The area around the hotel is lively, a lot of street food (although almost everything in Phnom Penh is twice as expensive as in Bangkok). Loved boiled corn (2000 riel) in front of the hotel and donuts 500 riels each nearby on the left, 5000-riel cappuccino at nearby Coffee House shop was amazing.
They didn't give towels to those who stayed at the dorm. Using your own towel on the day of departure means you'll get a wet towel in your backpack that will stink as hell when you arrive at the next destination. Not a negative thing but you should know - to lock your security box at the dorm, you need to have your own padlock. The hotel is near Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum but you need to walk half an hour to the Riverside. This is the price for paying little for such great conditions. Tuk-tuks are plentiful, a $1-$1.5 is enough for a ride to the Royal Palace area. I personally always walked since I like taking street images. In the morning, the area is full of monks in orange asking alms and giving blessings, so tranquil.

Excellent Location, Amazing Service, and Stunning Views This accommodation is fantastic, perfectly located with a market right outside the door. The service is outstanding – the room is cleaned daily, and the friendly staff is available 24/7 to assist you. Situated in the old part of Phnom Penh, the view from the room is breathtaking, offering a panoramic sight of the entire city.

Clean rooms and nice staff especially Sokmeng who was very helpful.
I’m a light sleeper and I’m quite sensitive to sound so I wasn’t able to sleep well on the first 2 nights as I was on the top floor (level 10) and there is this very soft sound coming from the rooftop throughout the day. I requested for a change of room and it was fine after I moved to level 7.

The staff in the hotel was very professional and kind - I arrived earlier than the check in hour and they let me into the room without me even asking about that possibility. The room was modern and spacious. The hotel is very close to the Genocide Museum, mini markets, gym, restaurants. At the same time it was very quiet. I wish I was staying in Phnom Penh longer to enjoy Emerald Hotel!

New hotel with modern rooms. Great view. Friendly staff. 500 m from Tuol Sleng. No breakfast but many choices of food for locals in the street, and for the less adventurous like us, the restaurant Kengkong is 200m from the hotel and serves delicious american breakfasts.
Some electrical plugs were not working. A handwash soap by the sink would have been nice. Loud music coming from neighbouring bars in the evening, but fortunately,it stops around 10-11 pm.

Don’t understand why this isn’t a 9+ on booking.com. Exceptionally clean, modern, great place. Very comfortable beds. Excellent facilities for showers toilets etc. friendly staff able to give local recommendations. Very glad I stayed here
Didn’t have as social an atmosphere as some other hostels might , partially because this is a hotel-hostel hybrid
