Lovely, modern rooms with tasteful decoration and extremely clean. We had three rooms, a single and two doubles. The host was really friendly and helpful, and we would highly recommend the breakfast...lots of choice at the buffet and it includes an excellent cooked option. It's a short walk to the sea in one direction and the Metro in the other. There are plenty of bars and restaurants close by too.

We all found the showers a bit hit and miss. I think it was if too many people were showering at the same time and the water pressure dropped. It would then go freezing for a while but, as we were on holiday and not in a rush, we just waited until it kicked back in.

Paul was a lovely host- he gave suggestions of where to eat, where local bars are and how far the lighthouse was. Room had everything we needed, with some good little touches, such as cotton wool pads, ear buds, toiletries. Good locations, close to the town. The walk to the light house is anything between 40 mins and an hour, depending on your pace! We didn't book for breakfast, so cannot comment on that.

Parking on street is fine..but image could be a problem if in a busy season. Bathroom was a bit on the small side, but is is a guest house, so it's not a big deal and we were only there for 1 night.

The host was fantastic and made me feel very welcome. Room was cosy and had everything I needed, and the decor was fun and inviting. Breakfast was really good. I had eggs benedict and there was a selection of fruit, toast and juices also. Great location and my room on the top floor had a bit of a sea view. Considering the very good price for one night, I'd recommend this place without hesitation.

Nothing really. If I had to be SUPER picky, my pillow was a bit lumpy and the walls were a quite thin as I could hear the guy in the next room snoring. The window blind doesn't keep out much light, so come sunrise it gets quite bright. But honestly, non of these are a real issue considering all the super positives. Better than a lot of hotels I've stayed that were twice as expensive.

We stopped off in Whitley Bay for one night to break a long journey from northern Scotland to the midlands with my elderly parents. We wanted somewhere comfortable, friendly with a good breakfast and where my parents would feel looked after a d secure. The Metropolitan excelled on all levels, including extra touches like dinner recommendations that took in our food preferences and the fact my parents couldn’t walk far. The breakfast was of particular note and the whole feel was relaxed and comfortable. It’s excellent value for money, in fact we’d have happily paid more for such a fab stay!

No issues with anything

We stayed in a lovely large room at the top of the property. Everything was as we expected, very clean, comfortable with en suite shower room and tea and coffee making facilities. We stayed here last year and returned because we thought it was an exceptional B&B. For breakfast there is a good choice of fruit, yoghurt, cereals etc following by a choice of freshly cooked hot food. Paul the owner works very hard to make sure everyone has everything they need and is a good source of information about the area and places to eat in the evening.

We arrived really late, so Paul was on hand to provide a code to access the front door and our key to the room was waiting for us. The breakfast was really good and great value for money. Choice of bagels with bacon or sausage and a fried egg, eggs benedict and other choices as well as toast and some fruit and cakes. The facility is clean and well presented and the hosts, Paul & Lee are really accommodating and go out of their way to help.

The only points we were not so keen on, the bed was a double, rather than a king, which there was ample size to accommodate one. I am sure there is a reason. Secondly the bathroom was snug, but clean and functional.

What a great place to stay, I'm so glad I booked a room at the Metropolitan. Everything was spot on, from the reassuring communication prior to my stay (due to transport I knew I would be checking in a bit late), to the impeccable style, cosy but cool. The bed was comfortable, and the bottle of water in the room alongside the usual tea and coffee facilities was really appreciated. Breakfast was perfect, made to order and the coffee was superb. I also really appreciated that our host was warm and welcoming but discreet and never intrusive or in your face, as can sometimes be the case at guest houses and B&Bs. The balance was just right. I also had a view of the sea and the stars from my lovely single room. And the price was extremely bargainous. Recommended.

Breakfasts were absolutely lovely with a really good choice and so well cooked and presented. The room was superb with every facility you could want even down to a shoe shine, clothes brush, cotton buds to a pack of cards! Along with all the usual facilities tv, hairdryer, toiletries etc. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and warm. The rooms are decorated to a high standard and nice and modern and welcoming. Paul the host was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for him. The location is perfect. Close to centre and close to the sea front. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone and I would always choose this hotel as my first choice.
