The hotel is very nice. It is close to the station (about a 5 min walk), although if you come in on the train, there are buses waiting at the West exit. (Didn't need a prior reservation as I forgot to make one) There are 2 onsens which were very nice and were pretty quiet, despite the hotel being full. There are a lot of tour groups (both Japanese and foreign) that stay in the hotel. The breakfast is amazing with lots of options for everyone - Japanese and Western foods. There is a new wing and an old wing. We stayed in the new wing in a room that was very spacious for Japan with 2 Western beds and 2 single futons. Both were very comfy and comfortable for a family. Note, the Western beds are the size of a double.

The hotel is a bit out of the way from the attractions and the main area of town. 5 min walk the opposite direction from train station. The onsen is closed during the middle of the day for public use, so if you are there to spend all day in the onsen, this may be an issue. Also, they do not loan umbrellas, so if there is a chance of rain, either take your own or be prepared to buy one. Do not choose this hotel if you are looking for a view - we had a view of the fans and parking lot, not sure if maybe the other side of the building had a better view.

The facilities were excellent. Everything was very clean, the shop was large and varied, plus the 10% duty-free discount was a nice surprise. There's no gym, but there's a riverside nearby, so you can easily go for a jog in the area. The surroundings are calm and quiet and very clean streets. Admirable in the local area, especially. It's not the same in the bigger cities.

I'd only point out that it'd be good to know during the reservation process if it's possible to choose a regular bed or a futon. When one does the check-in, the receptionist will ask at what time you'd like the futon to be made out. It was our first time in japan, so you get to learn that the spacious room, which is a living room at day time, becomes the bedroom at night time. We were a family of 4, and it was a bit crowded. If we had known that, we might've reserved 2 rooms instead. Also, on the photos, it shows a regular bed as well as a living room, which becomes the futon area. It would help to know upfront if there's an option for a regular bed vs a futon bed as thus would facilitate the experience and expectations. Thank you.

It was a perfect stay for my friends who were visiting Asia for the 1st time. I wanted my friends to experience sleeping in the traditional tatami room and onsen. Yet, I wanted them to feel less foreign. The western amenities provided them comfort. The hotel also provided extra sleeping pads so we all slept well. Buffets provided gluten-free food, so it’s a good choice for a group with different dietary needs.

The parking fee should be waived for overnight guests. It’s not so much about the cost—it’s only 1000 yen—but I feel it’s a pity to charge guests who already pay a lot to stay here.

We stayed in the Japanese style room which was comfortable and nice experience. Good breakfast with multiple choices and nice service. Large Onsen very clean and nice.

Location was a bit far from old town, restaurants and nice streets. In a nice weather good walking is enough but when it rains it’s not convenient. Moreover I don’t understand why the hotel charges for 1,000 yen for each night for parking. In addition the gym which is well equipped is not available on evenings as there are classes going on. Should be more thought about guests who don’t want to participate in a group class or didn’t manage to book it.

The room is super big and comfy. The amenities, the bedding, the decors and the design made you feel like you were in the luxury hotel. The location is in walking distance to the old town/center. We pretty much walked to the town for sightseeing, shopping, and eating every day. We were there for 3 days. The buffet breakfast is super nice. A huge selection of both western and Japanese food. We tried both and they were delicious. They also have open kitchen, you can order your choice of breakfast egg dish. BTW, they have the best cappuccino! Must try! The take-away-coffe is a plus. We didn't get a chance to try their onsens since we were too busy out. We were very happy to stay in Green Hotel. The pictures of the room(Premiere Twin Room - Non Smoking - (New) Orinkaku Wing)on the website didn't do its justice. The room is even nicer in person. We will stay here again!

None.

We stayed for 2 nights at Orinkaku new wing, everything is so new and clean. Room is also consider spacious in japanese hotel standard. There are two onsens in the hotel, the ground floor one is really beautiful but it can be crowded at certain hours as it is also open to public with a fee. We prefer the basement one as it is less crowded and everything is so new and it's well equipped with the necessities. Buffet breakfast serves both western and japanese foods, plenty of choices, and they serve locally produced or signature dishes such as miso and milk. Location is not too far from the JR station and Nohi bus terminal, but the hotel provides shuttle bus services so it's not an issue.

February 2025

We visited Takayama in February and had a large room with a tatami area with table and chairs. Very spacious. The view was nice looking across the town to the mountains. Great choice of restaurants and even a dessert cafe! Walking distance from most of the interesting areas of town. 'Executive lounge' seemed like a fun idea - a range of free drinks and a few snacks - but was a bit sterile and office-like to spend much time in. Good choice of foods at the buffet breakfast including crsp buttery croissants - yum ! Takayama is lovely and we wished we could have stayed longer.

Washing machines in the laundry could do with a clean. Parking wasn't free as promised on booking. com but was still only approx $10 AUD a night so not too bad. Heating in room was overpowering and maintenance couldn't fix it. We were sceptical of the proposed solution of leaving the window open (-7 outside!) but it actually worked quite well.

The location was great along with the free shuttle bus to and from the station was so good! Especially with all the snow that we had while we were there. The staff were all warm and friendly and provided outstanding service. We would definitely come back to visit again.

The pillow options could have been better. Albeit we only stayed 2 nights, the pillows were quite small. We did have very loud and noisy guests staying across and beside us as well and I did ask them to politely keep their noise down once. But they didn’t bother. Their noise level of conversations right outside our seemed louder so perhaps suggestions for better soundproofing in the future.

This the best Hotel we have stayed in. Great selection of restaurants within the hotel serving a variety of cuisines. A fantastic coffee shop with a view into a large traditional garden with large snow flakes falling. Good value buffet breakfast. Easy walk to the old town, station and bus terminal. We were on the 7th floor in a Western style room that afforded stunning views of the snow capped mountains. Our son and his wife and our 2 grandchildren stayed in a traditional Japanese room and they loved it. The onsen was wonderful. The staff were friendly and helpful.

I could not find one fault.
