Pretty hotel, and at a good location in Takayama. We could walk right into town. We had a great view of the mountains from the room! There is the option to park which is nice and its affordable.

You can see it’s a new hotel. The room was nice but missed some basics, like a little trashcan in the bathroom, and there was no place to hang out your towel after showering. Also the shower often changed in temperature for a while. There also were some other “quirks”. We had to pay to check in an hour earlier… Which didn’t feel very customer friendly to be honest. Breakfast was very expensive so we opted not to do that.

The hotel is brand new and very clean. We came for the autumn Takayama festival and the location was very good for that - just outside of the no cars zone, within walkable distance to the hot points of the festival, many shops and restaurants, and easy to get a taxi if you want to go somewhere else. The shared spaces are beautiful, there was also a (limited) range of complimentary drinks and snacks for guests.

Our double room was quite small and some of the interior design decisions made the space even smaller. It would have been difficult to manage if we hadn't come only with our backpacks. In the evening my friend's brand new flip flops were taken from the ladies bath and we had a lot of trouble getting any help from the staff, who all seemed very good intentioned and polite, but communication in English wasn't their strong point at all. Of course this incident is not the hotel's fault, but we felt we could not get the necessary help in trying to figure out what happened. As a whole, I expected a higher level of service for this price.

The hotel is new but rooms are badly designed. Not much place for suitcases. Just 1 mobile charging point hidden against the wall behind the headboard. The onsen was on the 9th floor and was more like a pool as compared to others. The good thing was the location. It was within walking distances to most sights and to the train station. The self managed laundrette was good. The hotel was clean and staff very helpful. The breakfast was good for vegetarians and vegans. Average for that standard of hotel.

Just 1 mobile charging point, a kettle and cups provided with no tea or coffee sachets. Not many hooks to hang towels or space for suitcases.

A brand new hotel in Oct 2025, hence very clean and tidy (if with a few teething issues). The breakfast is ok but a bit limited if you want western food. The hot spring pools are really nice and it’s nice to have a pool where men and women can go together in swimsuits. Easily walkable to the station and to the old town area.

The hot pools were shut for much of the middle of the day; and the free welcome drinks seemed to just be various types of tea. There’s no restaurant in the evening which wasn’t a problem for us as we wanted to go out to eat anyway. We happened to book in festival week so it was very expensive. Normally it’s good value.

The Amanek has a great location closer to both the station and old town, and rooms are bigger than most we stayed in during our Japan trip. They're comfortable and clean, and staff are helpful and friendly. The public baths are lovely, and it was nice to have a mixed bath (with sauna and cold plunge pool), along with the separate ones, though a shame you have to use your room towels in them.

It seemed quite pricey, and as mentioned, it was a shame that the baths don't have towels in them. Breakfast could have a better selection (only fruit for example was orange segments).

This property is brand new, so as expected it was spot on. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, the laundry is very handy, very close to the station, 10 minute walk max. Onsen on top floor was great. The hotel is in a great position for the old town area. Breakfast was varied and plentiful.

The reception is on the first floor, there are no stairs for public use, so at times there was a queue for the lifts, we would have happily used stairs.

This was a very new hotel that ticked pretty much all the boxes for us. It was so beautiful and modern! Spotlessly clean! And the staff were so helpful. We loved the Onsen (and particularly that we could wear bathers!) It is located very close to the station and an easy walk to most attractions. It was easy to board a bus from the station nearby to take us to Hida no Sato (Folk Village). We would definitely stay here again.

There was very little Western style breakfast (no cereal)

Great location near train station, modern stylish hotel. Rooms are larger than most Japanese hotels. Softer bed and firm pillows - very comfortable. Loved the clean, spacious onsen. Staff is kind and very helpful.

The light in the entry of guest rooms is on a sensor. A bit bothersome if you are sharing a room and one person gets up in the middle of the night, the light would automatically turn on. It would be better with a manual light switch.

We had the surprise of very spacious rooms, very clean and comfortable. SPA area is a big bonus. Also the laundry room (we had a smart TV in the room showing the live availability of washing machines and dryers). A plus would also be the possibility to have breakfast there. Nice touch with the welcoming drinks :) . They also offered snack in the evening (sweet or savory Dango)

Hotel Amanek was above my expectations. Very close to the station, easy to walk to old part of town and many restaurants to choose from. We enjoyed the bigger bathroom, which actually had a separate shower room and the comfortable beds. The reception area was also spacious and a lovely onsen. Would definitely recommend to stay here.
