What a cute family run ski hotel. As a family of four we reserved the 2 bedroom 2 bath family suite. It was plenty of space and very comfortable. Takumi and his wife were the BEST hosts. They were so kind and helpful. They had a sushi party for us the first night at no extra charge. They cooked us a huge breakfast every morning. The hotel has ski and snowboarding equipment you can rent from them at 50% off. Takumi also dropped us off and picked us up from the ski resorts so we didn’t have to figure out catching a bus or shuttle. He also helped us make dinner reservations. We will be back!

During our 7-night stay Hotel Budoya provided the perfect family ski holiday with two children under 10yo. Takumi (the manager) picked us from the train station on arrived, kitted us out with good quality rental gear in the basement rental shop. He then everyday took us to our choice of slope in the mornings and picked us up when we wanted, meaning we didn't need to bother with shuttle busses while managing tired children. Katsurako, provided us a good breakfast every morning and there were complimentary snacks and drinks available anytime. They also provide a Sushi party as a gift one night, which the whole family really enjoyed. Our room was large by Japanese standards and vey comfortable. Echoland with restaurants was only 5-10min walk away

Hakuba in prime time can be tough due to the huge numbers of people here but staying at Hotel Budoya made it stress free & easy. The lovely owners cook a super Western breakfast & will drive you & pick you up from whichever ski hill you choose. We skied at 7 hills and took the public shuttle one day which was a nightmare so overcrowded & people behaving badly to get on buses, so I can't over emphasize the joy of being to the hill privately by the hotel owner! Rooms are a generous size with small private bathroom very clean & comfortable with older furnishings. Heating works well. Fun pool table by the fire for apres ski and snacks and drinks are provided too! There is a ski storage room and area to put on ski boots too. The hotel has many good restaurants within walking distance and the street is quiet for a good nights sleep- great central location. The owners are so lovely and friendly and we loved that they helped us call in Japanese to make dinner reservations when needed. They also will pick you up from the station when you arrive and depart. Staying here really made our ski trip amazing-highly recommend it!

Only thing that would have made it better would be an onsite Onsen but there are a couple 15min walk away.

Comfortable room but main positive was the convenience of hiring our ski gear directly from Takumi san (an ex-instructor and very knowledgeable about the area and slopes), being provided with a hot breakfast and then being taken by mini bus to the slopes each day. It made the whole skiing experience so much easier and enjoyable. Other helpful touches were being picked up for the train station where the Nagano bus dropped us and dropped at Hakuba station for the train journey to Tokyo (one train a day to Shinjuku at 15:15); the effort Takumi san and his wife took to write things in English as my Japanese was limited; the plentiful snacks and drinks we were welcome to and the complimentary sushi party; help with sending luggage ahead of time and sending it back to Narita airport. They were amazing hosts. We also enjoyed talking to the other guests over breakfast (and delicious sushi!) and playing pool. Room was spacious and warm and we could watch Netflix. Walking to Echoland restaurants in the evening took less than 10 mins.

Bathroom was retro fitted in bedroom and was cramped and needed some attention.

We are a family of 3 with a toddler. The bedroom was so comfy and spacious. It’s a charming old house that has great character. All our needs are met, lots of food available at the pantry and we are impressed by the hearty breakfast given that we requested for no meat. The hosts were incredibly warm and gracious.

Our toddler ran everywhere and I think she made a lot of noise 😆 apologies to the other guests! It’s an old house with wooden flooring so I think there is bound to be some noise. If you have small kids, perhaps you can ask for a room where they won’t disturb others. I think we did got such a room so we are grateful.

The property is clean. The rooms are spacious. The host is super friendly and helpful. It’s close to many restaurants. There are free snacks, drinks and cup noodles for guests to enjoy in the common room. I like especially the ski rental and drop off and pick up service provided by the host making my ski trip so perfect with my family travelling with young kid. Also great welcome tea/cake time upon arrival. Sushi party and great local wines provided by the host. I would definitely visit again.

The only thing is the toilet being small

Our hosts Takumi and Katsurako were very kind and welcoming. Takumi drove us to the snowfield each day and picked us up. Katsurako provided a continental breakfast each morning (no charge) and a Sushi Party one night (no charge). Wine, spirits, nibbles etc were available at no charge. Takumi has a ski hire shop in the hotel and offered rental of all ski gear for half price. Our room was large (34sqm) with a nice outlook. The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of restaurants including Echoland. Clothes washing facilities available (no charge). We thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The bathroom was very small.

What a great stay we had, such a charming place and the owners go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of the whole time including free drinks, lifts to the mountains every day and delicious food. Highly recommend as a great boutique place to stay.

The only slight thing that made the stay just off perfect was the second story level where 2 beds were had a bit of a scary staircase that had no rails and we a little nervous with our 7 year old up there, so we just brought the mattress downstairs. Older kids and adults no problems / just tough with little ones.

We traveled as a family of four with our two adult children and were greeted most warmly by the host Takumi and his wife with personalized service, delicious cake and drink. Our rooms were very comfortable clean and spacious. We couldn’t believe how easy our host made it to rent skis and ski gear in the comfort and privacy of his own basement, plus private shuttle service to and from the ski base. Easiest ever! And the free snacks and drinks including a very nice whiskey selection were amazing. They are the nicest family who will try to accommodate your every wish. Love this place and would go back any time! Highly recommend. Five stars and more!!!

Property was a delight. The staff were friendly, accommodating and helpful. We were picked up from the station, welcomed by a large sushi platter and then we could organise ski hire at the hotel. The room was very spacious and warm. The billiards and fire place were super cosy every night and the snacks made the trip easy. Also location is very close to Cherry pub and Echoland, so walking to dinner made the trip extra convenient. The breakfast in the morning and then being taken to the ski fields. Tatami, our host, was so generous with his time and kindness. We are a family of five.

Nothing really. The bathroom was very small but that just meant more space in the room.
