The chap working in the restaurant/hotel was excellent - really friendly, welcoming, and informative. We only interacted with one other member of staff and she was also lovely! The location is excellent, just a short walk to the sea-front/amusements etc and there are some fantastic places to eat directly opposite the property. Breakfast was a highlight and served promptly and all of the food we had there during our stay was fantastic - the Betty apple pie being a highlight for mum.

Parking a slight issue, we were unable to get a spot anywhere along Ocean Rd on a couple of occasions, never mind outside the guest house, but to be fair, it did clear out front later in the day. The weather was great during our stay, so it could've just been an exceptionally busy day. Guest house was very clean, but our room had some minor issues (hairs in bath, additional blanket wasn't very clean, and could maybe do with some plumper pillows for the bed) but overall we really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely recommend/return with our dogs.

Friendly welcome, cozy room. Fan was a great idea and much appreciated. Quiet room considering the location on the road. Early check in as most places won't let you in until after 16:00. Free parking great and no issues finding a space. Would stay again as good price and it's important for sole travelers to feel safe (which I did). Clean accommodation and would recommend. Accolades well deserved!

Excellent staff ,from first meeting , the staff went over and above for us , The room was very cosy ,clean , decor was gorgeous , massive tv, lovely big shower ,beds very comfortable, on the first day I had booked afternoon tea for my friends birthday it was gorgeous ,the next morning we went for the full english breakfast again spot on ,day two I picked scrambled eggs again gorgeous , my friend picked poached eggs with avocado that was lovely too , plenty of choice for breakfasts .

The location is fantastic, shops , restaurants, and the seaside is a short walk away. The restaurants in particular are just a short walk across the road . It is very clean and the decor is very nice . The breakfast was delicious and a good size , lots of different options included. The staff can’t do enough for you and make you feel welcome from the get go . The rooms are clean and modern , the en suite bathroom was spotless .

Family run hotel woth friendly welcoming staff.The accommodation is very clean and ,tastefully decorated .The room was a decent size with a comfortable bed and crisp linen . Tea and coffee facilities in the room and extras of a small fan and hairdryer. Breakfast included in the price with a large and varied menu selection . The accommodation is in a street of many restaurants and a real ale CAMRA awarded pub. Close to the marine park ,seafront and fun fair

The Clifton is in a perfect location on a central street very near a beautiful park and the beach plus a small walk into town , with many restaurants and cafes on the street. My room was spotless, quiet , dark when blind down and though compact , excellent value for money and had everything I could wish for.

High standard room with regard to decor and facilities so it was easy to forget that The Clifton is a bed and breakfast establishment, rather than a hotel. Good choice at breakfast, which was served quickly. I appreciated the electric fan in my room in the hot weather. Friendly, helpful staff. Thank you for the help with my case. Good location, midway between beach and metro. Close to parks and leisure centre too. Just under a mile stroll to ferry to North Shields.

Nothing to dislike! My room was at the top of the house so it was hot in this current sunny weather, but an efficient electric fan was provided so no problem.

We had a reasonable choice of breakfast with pleasant and helpful table service staff. We didn't ask for more but there was no buffet we could raid! The breakfast room was very well presented albeit slightly cramped - but I am rather large. South Shields is far better than some might imagine and we were excellently located for the large beach, nearby shops and a large park with a lake. There were plenty of food premises located nearby. Other than along the coast, the road system could be a bit daunting but there was fairly easy access to public transport into Newcastle and around the area. The nearby ferry across the Tyne was convenient and cheap to use. Our room at the back at the top gave us a view over nearby houses and the antics of the seagulls and other birds kept us entertained! It also meant that there was no noise from traffic. Food was also available to non-residents throughout the day. We never had a problem parking in the streets nearby which were quite popular with day visitors.

There was really nothing not to like. We wouldn't have expected one but it may be worth mentioning that there was no lift for anyone who has a difficulty with stairs. However, we were told that they would try and accommodate anyone who has such difficulties-with a lower room.

The room had everything I needed. It was compact, but just the right size. Breakfest was outstanding and love they had to offer. I wish I could remember his name, but the gentleman who greteed us and was reponsible for managing breakfast was super nice and friendly, I hope he's doing alright.

Could've used a small fan in the room, but that isn't a negative for the property.

Stayed in the middle of a very hot spell and room at the top of the hotel was pretty warm with a window that for sensible safety reasons couldn't open wide. So, I was hot....but let's be honest, this isn't going to be a significant issue most of the time on England's North East coast!
