Central to Battle. Warm room we could adjust the heating by radiator thermostat. Clean room good quality bedding en-suite. Fresh cafeteria coffee with quirky cups a lovely touch! Although on a main road corner the room was very quiet and we enjoyed a good nights sleep Room instructions in a folder in the room ie how to work the internet TV breakfast prices etc

We felt for the price of £103 per night the room was rather small and was not as large as the website picture portrayed. Perhaps a simple continental breakfast could be included? The pricing for breakfast was in the folder. Toast £5 Granola £8 we felt this was a bit pricey!

Battle is a compact town. It is lively with a variety of restaurants, pubs and cafes. Chequers is well positioned and of course to view the historical significance. We enjoyed the quirky bus number "1066". We had a very enjoyable evening meal with a good pint of Harveys. Sue looked after us well and made us feel very at home. Charming old building and the interior design has had some thought put into it.

No real issues - the wi-fi was a bit variable but then this was an old building which does not naturally lend itself to modern kit.

Our third stay at Chequers and thoroughly enjoyed it. We came from London to eat the amazing sirloin steak. Chris, the chef definitely cooks the best steak I’ve ever had to perfection. We got to meet him this time and we told him that although we’ve stayed on three occasions I’ve actually had his steak 5 times in the last year. The front of house staff, Lina and Kirsty were lovely and welcoming, both looked after us so well 10/10 ladies x I love everything about this inn from the squeaky floors to the amazing artefacts . Room 2 is my favourite. Bed is so comfortable. Thanks guys. We’ll be back soon. xx

We love it. What can I say.

Its quirkiness was fascinating! Playing dodge the creaky floorboards whilst feeling tipsy without the alcohol, on the floor of a 1400s building, was entertainment enough! A much bigger en-suite room than we expected, with all the comforts for a good nights sleep (the windows do open for those warm nights!), tea/coffee facilities, towels, toiletries and a fan! The staff were fabulous, nothing was too much trouble and they all took the time to engage with us….a rarity these days! We had the most delicious breakfast, very clearly cooked fresh with local ingredients. An 11am check out meant that we weren’t rushed to get up and away. A really enjoyable night away! Thanks for enhancing a birthday treat!

Nothing to dislike….if I had to find something it would be to make the room darker as there’s a lot of outside light (fine once you’re asleep!)

Lovely really old and interesting hotel. Lovely friendly staff. Food was great. Great location. Bed was so comfortable. Train station 5 minute walk from hotel. Lovely view from room. TV to watch. Visited battle Abbey, St Mary's church. Enough pubs to have a drink and food. The chapel is a good pub, friendly sports pub. Kebab shop just what we like.

Everything was great.

The inn is a 5 minute walk from the Battle train station and a 5 minute walk from the Battle Abbey School which was the venue for the wedding we attended. The Chequers Inn was a lovely place to stay. The room was a good size for 2 and I was impressed with the en suite shower and loo. Very compact shall we say, but definitely enough room to do what you need to! The bed was comfy and the room was very nice. Tea and coffee provisions provided in the room and we were given a top up in the morning without having to find someone to ask, as is frequently the case in chain hotels. All the staff we met were very welcoming and happy to help. Provided an iron and ironing board when we realised we forgot our travel one! We had breakfast on both the mornings we were there and I definitely recommend. Nice beer garden and outside seating. It was also so lovely to stay somewhere with so much history. I would just warn about the low ceilings in the corridor as my partner did bomp his noggin (nothing to do with drinking champagne for 8 hours, honest lol) Definitely recommend staying here.

I really don't think there was anything wrong with our stay. Maybe provide crash hats to those over 5'7" lol

We loved the stair way outside our room which was like an Escher print. We loved the atmosphere and history of the old building and friendliness of staff who made us very welcome. Really enjoyed our meal on the Tuesday night which had a vegetarian option which was full of vegetables and very delicious . We were able to park right beside the hotel.

A very friendly team with an exceptional room. Me and my husband stayed here the night before our church wedding blessing ceremony. The team were so helpful and understanding by storing our bags before we checked in and letting us get ready in the morning. The room and it's amenities were fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to any couple as it's a beautiful building with a lovely atmosphere in the heart of battle.

Nothing it was perfect

Lovely welcome, helpful, thoughtful staff, great location. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful . Lunch was delicious. Full of character and delightful old-world charm. Bed itself comfortable and bathroom clean.

A bit chilly in bedroom and in bar too. Blinds at bedroom windows didn't block out enough, so light poured in when sun arrived after dawn!

The room was over the pub bar and near a roundabout, but the room was very quiet! Convenient location for us in Battle Excellent free car parking

The pub was advertised with creaky floorboards. but they were VERY creaky - no quiet trips to the bathroom during the night! We had trouble finding the switch for the landing light, which was very necessary as the room was up a short flight of stairs, very dark without a light.
