The hosts Erika and Tomo were so friendly and helpful during our stay. They helped us rent skis and book lift passes. They prepared delicious breakfasts and dinners - the food was plentiful with something different each time. Sunny Side is in the Goryu ski area and you can walk to the lifts or catch the free shuttle that is a minute walk from the accommodation. Goryu is a great ski area and joins with Hakuba 47 so it is big and the snow is amazing! We really enjoyed our stay here and would 100% recommend it.

Sunny Side Hut is such a special place, and staying there felt like being part of a family. Erika and her husband are the kindest, warmest people, and they really made my trip unforgettable. The location is super convenient—close to the train station, bus station, and just a short trip to the Goryu ski slopes. It made everything so easy, even when it was snowing really hard during my stay. The absolute highlight, though, has to be Erika’s cooking. Every single meal she made was out of this world! Day after day, I was blown away by her incredible home cooking—it was such a treat and definitely one of the best parts of my trip. Her husband was so helpful, driving us to and from the bus station and making sure we had everything we needed. Even with the heavy snow, the hut was cozy and comfortable. I already miss Erika, her husband, and their amazing hospitality. If you’re heading to Hakuba, you have to stay here—it’s such a warm and welcoming place, and I can’t recommend it enough!

One small thing to note: I did find a few stink bugs in my room during my stay. It didn’t ruin my experience, but it’s something to keep in mind, especially in the winter months when bugs might come inside for warmth. That said, the overall warmth and hospitality made it easy to overlook.

The place we stayed was conveniently located close to the ski lift and the room was well maintained - you can find everything you need in the house! Our hosts, Erika-san and Tomo-san are the best :))!!! They picked us up from the station, offered to help us book lift tickets, helped us find the rental shop, and the best of all was the food they cooked for us - every morning there was a delicious breakfast that helped us stay energized for the whole day at the resort. We really enjoyed our stay here and are thinking about coming back next year ;).

The owners/hosts Tomo & Erika were the best. Very accommodating, caring to the guests and service oriented. They offered to pick us up at the nearby bus stop (making our check-in convenient) and drop us off to the ski resort during our stay. We felt their genuine warmth (always smiling and carried a positive attitude everyday) which makes the place very welcoming. They made delicious meals (breakfast as part of the stay, and dinner upon request), and helped arrange gear rental which made things easier for us. With this, my family and I felt very much at home! The entire place (common areas and rooms) was clean, and properly heated (we didn't feel cold even if it was -5 degrees outside!) and they have drying areas for clothes and ski equipment. We truly experienced Omotenashi (thoughtful hospitality) at Sunny side hut! Thank you Tomo & Erika! We'd be happy to come back! :)

Tomo and Erika were both incredibly welcoming and hospitable throughout our entire stay at sunny side. From waking up each morning to freshly made breakfasts to helping us organise ski hire, and transportation to and from other mountains and bus stops. The area was lovely and quiet and a short walking distance to Goryu. Great selection of restaurants not far from the accomodation. Erika and Tomo also prepared fantastic dinners for us on a couple of occasions including both western and Japanese dishes (the Japanese dishes were especially tasty!). Definitely get what you pay for and more. We can absolutely see ourselves going back.

Our hosts, Tomo and Erika were so friendly and kind, and they really elevated our experience at Sunny Side Hut. They took extra care in preparing our breakfast meals as we had dietary restrictions, and breakfast was really one of the highlights of each day for us. They offered to pick us up and drop us off when we arrived and left Hakuba. Rooms were just the right size for my friend and I, and everything was spotless. The place is near the Goryu/Iimori/Hakuba47 resorts as well. Really enjoyed our time here and they are truly ambassadors of the hospitality that Japan is known for. Thank you both!

The inn is located fairly deep in the Kamishiro area - renting a car to get around would be advisable, although relying on the shuttle buses available would still be possible (you'll just need to walk more and depend on the shuttles' schedule). Otherwise everything else is great!!

Tomo-san and Erica-san made our ski trip very much enjoyable despite the weather not being the best. The food is yummy, the room is comfortable, and they make every effort for the guests to feel at home.

Dining options in the vicinity are limited.

Not too far from Goryu resort, around 15 min walk. Hot water was great. Bed was comfortable. They made me a gluten free breakfast because I’m gluten intolerant. Friendly family running this.

Room was cold and took time to warm up with the heater.
