The free spa facilities were disappointing. The jacuzzi, sauna and steam were all cold and not enjoyable. There is an electrical fault on the pool or jacuzzi, if you stick your legs between the two you get shocked. .

Rooms were very spacious. The grounds are exceptional: beautiful, large, very well-kept. It feels like a country retreat and it's difficulty to imagine you are still in the city. Staff was very friendly and helpful which contributed to an enjoyable stay.

The check out was at 10:00 which was unexpected given the fact that check out is usually at 11:00 in SA hotels. It was also not well communicated which was part for the inconvenience. Overall, although enjoyable, I felt as if the experience lacked sophistication.

Overall this hotel is very well located in Irene and only a 30 min drive to the OR Tambo Airport (without traffic). So very convenient.

I had an international flight to catch in the morning after checkout, and my room was at the far end of the property. I called reception 15 minutes before I wanted to leave my room, as I needed the porter to assist me with my 23kg bag. I waited and waited, but no one came. My transfer was waiting at the front. Some of these rooms are quite a walk from reception, and more care from the staff is needed to ensure that guests are looked after in this regard and do not need to lug their luggage 500 meters from their room!

Close to home (jhb) so when you arrive home, you are not drained. The room is luxurious, and everything worked. Even the aircon did a sterling job keeping us cosy. (Previous room had a leaking toilet) Had a lovely walk around the lake. Would have like to try the gym, but we had limited time due to work commitments.

The lack of a toilet brush... I am sure I don't need to explain. :) We would have liked to check out in the afternoon. This was just a one night outing, so if you want to sleep a bit late and have breakfast, it would be a rush to make the normal checkout time. We were offered an 11:30 checkout, which was great. But for a one night outing it would be really great to allow an afternoon departure.

Booked a forest-facing room. Spacious bedroom, lovely walk-in rainforest shower in the bathroom. Separate toilet. All the amenities - hairdryer, iron/board, mini toiletries, bottled water etc. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Dinner menu/wine list was quite adequate and the food was delicious. Restaurant has a nice setting overlooking the lake. The breakfast was immense, selection of hot & cold buffet, Continental, loads of fresh fruit and yoghurt. Hotel is well spaced out and sits in a lovely green park. Staff were very friendly throughout the hotel. It's a 'no cash hotel'. Pay with card upon arrival for your room. Then pay with card at each outlet you use, ie Bar, Restaurant, etc. Keeps check-out uncomplicated and speedy.

Didn't like that we were only staying the one night!

Breakfast was great, variety of options. Dinner was excellent. We had lunch at the farm stall which was fascinating. The walk that you take on the dairy farm is breath taking. Loved the connection between hotel and diary farm

House keeping service was poor. Had to wait for 20 minutes to get body wash. Had to phone 2 times before the above request was honoured. House keeping cleaner knocked and entered with our permission. She wanted to start cleaning the room while we were still occupying the room

Irene Country Lodge exceeded all expectations with its impeccable service and charming atmosphere. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel like family, going above and beyond to ensure my comfort. The attention to detail throughout the lodge was evident in every aspect, from the beautifully appointed rooms to the delicious dining options. Each meal was a culinary delight, and the serene views added to the overall experience. The staff's warmth and dedication truly made my stay memorable, and I cannot wait to return for another relaxing getaway at Irene Country Lodge. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a top-notch hospitality experience.

This was our fourth stay at Irene, and as usual, it was wonderful. We traveled with another family, and the kids had a great time—the neighboring farm was as fun as always. The food was excellent, and the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. We stayed in a larger room this time and experienced a bit of trouble with the shower and water pressure, but otherwise, we had no complaints. We’re always counting down the days until we can return!

Our room was upstairs in a long row of rooms, and it had a Juliette balcony. The room was stylishly decorated, and the robes and toiletries were a treat. We could easily park in front of the accommodation block, which was very quiet. We were never bothered by outside noises, and the space felt luxurious, as did the bedding and linen.

Our fan did not work, and one TV channel had no sound. When we pointed this out at reception, they tried to solve the problems. Sadly, no one could solve the issues, but at least they tried.

This is a peaceful and beautiful location to relax and receive excellent service. The forest facing lodge suites are extremely comfortable and the trees give a feeling of serenity for morning coffee on the balcony. The spa is beautiful and the staff friendly and professional. This will now be our preferred hotel when visiting Pretoria in future.

It would be helpful to link all on-site expenses to the hotel bill rather than pay at the spa for refreshments.
