Very unique and cool hotel perfectly located in Obidos. We enjoyed the breakfast selection, especially the eggs made to order. The hotel room was spacious and comfortable, and they gave us an unexpected upgrade and surprise treats waiting in our room as we indicated it was our honeymoon. Pleasantly surprised that we were able to park right outside since it was a weekday not in busy season, but they were helpful in sending parking instructions nearby in advance. Very helpful staff and very welcoming.

The wall in the room had some paint flaking and needs to be touched up, but otherwise nothing really negative to say.

Every single thing was fantastic. We had a blast. The staff was incredibly kind, patient and considerate. I made a mistake with the date of my booking, and they found a way to honor it, with no complaints or irritation. I sent photos of the place to my friends and they said it's like someone built this hotel specifically for me. It was a dream. I was dizzy with adoration for all the books, the brunch breakfast with fresh juices, coffees, pastries and made to order items was fabulous and would've been $50-$75 in the states.

There was nothing I didn't like. I can't imagine something that would make it better. Well, the dinner restaurant is only rated three stars or 3 1/2 stars in the various places that I researched. I didn't try it, but it may be that a little more attention could go into Improving the restaurant. However, the atmosphere alone was likely worth it. A big fireplace and lovely tables grouped around, with more books and wine, etc..

This place is a real gem. It's just outside the city walls, and the location is perfect. It's such a small central town that everything is in quick, easy walking distance. My room was huge, and a perfect mix of historic old building, and modern touches, features, and bathroom.

Some of the staff seemed a bit unfriendly, but I was there in the days leading up to the annual chocolate festival, so maybe there was some added stress on them.

The hotel itself - the books alone is already worth a visit. The room I had was big enough for me and had a good sleep. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed it very much. There are not a lot of supermarkets in the area and as someone who likes to have some tea or other beverage at night it was a bit of a down side but the hotel was kind enough to let me order from the restaurant so I had my cup of tea at night. I wish I had more time to enjoy the books. maybe next time...

There was a little incident but I already spoke to the staff about it and they were very kind and understanding...

This hotel was incredible. It had thousands of books all over the hotel and you could also purchase books to take with you. We had the standard room and it was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious. We also had a balcony with a view to the garden. The breakfast was absolutely delicious - they provided a variety of Portuguese delicacies as well as other breakfast items, such as eggs and fruit. The hotel was right outside of the walls of Óbidos so you were able to drive to the hotel and park on the street. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

The decor in the hotel is books everywhere, it certainly lives up the name literary hotel. It is a very relaxing place with very friendly staff. As a gluten free person I was very looked after, the chef cooked from scratch my meal to ensure there was no cross contamination when we eat in the restaurant. And I was presented home made breads and treats for breakfast.

There was nothing about our visit that we didn't like. Only have good things to stay about this hotel. It was a cool March night and there were blankets and a heater available in the room.

Perfect location, quite close to Obidos Castle. The food and the restaurant salon are wonderful and staff is extremely helpful and nice.

I was disappointed by the books on the shelves. I seek for library hotels around the world, and thus this feature was the main reason why I decided to stay at The Literary Man. However, almost all books are paperback bestsellers, terrible literature in general.

This was such an idyllic place to stay!! We stayed 3 nights, and did a day trip to Nazaré (incredible beaches!). The staff were very friendly and helpful - buses, what to see and do etc - and the food at the restaurant was also lovely! Breakfast each morning was an amazing spread: a feast fit for a king!! The room was cozy, very comfortable bed, didn’t even need the A/C as the concrete walls kept it nice and cool. Would love to stay here again given the chance!

The hotel is housed in an old monastery. It is stuffed with books, which is fantastic for those who love reading and exploring bookshops and libraries. It was perfect for us! The room was spacious, a lovely bathroom with a bath. Very comfortable bed. Powerful AC, which is a must in Portugal in summer. Super close to the city walls, but very quiet at night. Breakfast was lovely. We dined in the restaurant once, and it was superb! Very nice and helpful staff!

The location is fantastic, and as a book lover, I loved the literary theme and decoration

Suggestion for improvement: 1) rooms are a bit outdated, and 2) the book selection could be improved. If you want to live up to the being a literary hotel, than a proper collection of classic works by Portuguese and international authors would better suit the theme than multiple copies of the twilight saga bought from a garage sale.
