Spacious, beautifully designed, every detail is cute and thoughtfully crafted. Rooms are spacious and nice. Every room has a bathroom. Cute private pattio outside, the terrace. Honestly everything. Also the volunteer hosts really do take care good of the house :)

The ventilation in the second room could be improved. At night it got very warm and lacked oxygen. Also the bunk bed was too short for me but I am tall so understable. Also the first room i stayed the smell in the bathroom was unpleasant (probably had to do something with the sewer). Other than that, nada :)

I stayed for a week to work remotely and surf, which was perfect. I could do my work in the living room, and went to my room sometimes for a call, but was not that I really had to. The house was super comfortable and clean, and there was a nice vibe with everybody. Most of the people were guests which came back after an earlier stay, which is a good sign. It was very easy to rent a board at the hostel for only 10 a day, being able to surf every day after (and sometimes before) work. Cat and Hugo were super sweet and made my stay super pleasant: I am sad to go after one week, will definitely come back!

From the first moment we arrived, everyone in the hostel was very kind to all of us. Caterina, the hostel manager,also contacted me personally to give me more information and to be at my disposal for anything I needed. All the facilities and services met our expectations and even exceeded them. The hostel itself has a special aura and a very good vibe that I recommend both for people who are travelling with groups of friends or alone. The people who stay here are also very respectful in case you are worried about your rest. The location is excellent as it is very close to all the restaurants, beaches and nightlife. Above all, I recommend you to include Sunday in your stay as you will have the opportunity to have the best pancakes for breakfast in the area! One of the things I would also highlight, apart from the hostel itself, is the small garden, which allows you to relax, sunbathe and do different activities such as yoga or meditation. They also have a skatepark as well as the option to use different surfing equipment. If you are reading this review, I would definitely recommend you stop wasting time looking at other options and book a bed now!!!!

Orla was a star helping me check in and making sure I had everything I needed. The facilities were fantastic, and you could really tell the owners Hugo and Caterina really cared about the place. It's a shame I couldn't stay longer - they are just too popular and were fully booked!

Just for the purposes of feedback, the knives could be sharper and there could be a chair or some sort of seat for anyone that is not on the bottom bunk because there is nothing to sit on to organise your bag in the room otherwise.

Staff was super nice, always available if needed. Every person I met here has been super nice with me, I just stayed 5 days but I could have spent months here! You are 5 minutes away from ocean, surfing places and supermarket, you can rent board and suits directly in the hostel.. basically everything you need to enjoy your holidays in Baleal!

Awesome hostel. The location is perfect for walking to a range of different surf breaks. The included breakfast is great and makes life so much easier. You get a towel included with your stay which is also really helpful. Upon arrival there was a cupboard in the kitchen with my name on it, and an allocated basket in the fridge. The owner also reached out on whatsapp prior to my stay with some useful information and to see if I had any questions :). Theres a shed in the garden to store your boards and theres places to hang your wetsuit too. Had an awesome time overall thanks to the volunteers and other guests.

- Beautiful place with an intrinsic and unique character due to the detailed artwork implemented into every part of the hostel. - The 4 voluntaries are sweethearts that keep the place cozy and help you out with every question that may come up. They are also responsible for the included breakfast that offers everything you could ask for. - Many rooms have their own balcony and if not, there is still the roof top terrace with a great sunset view. - You have good rental conditions directly at the hostel for boards and bikes. - 3 min by foot to the coastline. - Overall, a clean and very well equiped hostel that makes you get in touch with people while offering a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.

- The mattress was still ok but could be changed in the nearer future. I guess I was unlucky with that one.

The Captain's is THE PLACE TO GO when you come to Baleal. From the first moment it gave me the feeling of being welcomed to a lovely family of all ages and backgrounds. Even though I am not a surfer I was an equal member of the community hahaha.The staff was just amazing (big love to the czech crew and Kev) and every evening someone else cooked for the whole hostel and we all ate together. What a treat! The breakfast was abundant with eggs, bread, cereals, coffee....The house is beautifully decorated and the garden and big living room invite you to come together.My room had a little balcony and the bed was comfy for me, even though I have problems with my back. At night it was quiet and I got the rest I wanted. I also met people in other hostels who were just waiting to get a room in the Captain's and many people are coming back every year...maybe I'll be one of them😃

Absolutely nothing

Everything - everything at Captain's is great. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, the staff are super friendly, there's an epic rooftop that you can watch sunrise / sunset from. It's walking distance to surf beaches, cafes, supermarket and surf shops if you need to rent boards. I will always try and stay here when travelling to Portugal. Absolutely love it

Where to start? The staff (Ali and the volunteers) are very welcoming. Great vibes in the house and the garden with all the guests. Feels like a family. We had dinner together almost every evening. The house is cleaned well and the beds are comfortable. Very cool, colourful decorations, even on the ceilings. Between waves checks, surf sessions (beach literally around the corner), walks on the cliffs it was just so nice to chill here. People were able to work remotely here. It's such a pity to leave, but will be back (probably soon).
