The receptionist was pleasant. The room we were given was number 6 which overlooked the village green though the bay window. The bonus was the sitting room within our bedroom with its own settee and television. The bedroom was comfortable and appeared to have new light switches with usb outlets. We booked dinner which we enjoyed our meal of duckling and various vegetables which we could serve ourselves. My husband enjoyed his starter of prawn cocktail and l chose the banoffee pie which was devine. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good and there was a choice of cereals, fruit and juices. We enjoyed the cooked breakfast and my husband also thought the eggs tasted delicious.

Breakfast was generous; full range of hot dishes cooked to order (no microwaved scrambled eggs here) with hot drinks served - not from a machine. Reasonable range of fruit and lots of jam toast etc Room was large enough with a lovely view over the garden. Very clean and quiet Wi-Fi was OK - didn’t use the TV; tea a Bath and over shower in modest bathroom Staff very friendly and obliging; we said we would be arriving a bit after their cut off time of 10.30pm and they said they would wait for us. Then greeted us fondly and took us to the room and showed us facilities Easy parking

The hotel is a rabbit warren so a bit of walking along narrow corridors. The room is strangely furnished with large armchairs taking up space. bathroom narrow.

The staff were exactly what you want in a hotel, welcoming, friendly, helpful, efficient. The building, restored after a fire in 1953, is full of character and our room in particular was like stepping back in time, in a good way. Almost 500 years old, and in the only part of the hotel that escaped significant fire damage, it still has many original features but with all modern conveniences and a lovely view across the village green. The public areas are equally characterful and though I can't comment on the evening meals as we ate with family in Hastings, I can state that the inclusive breakfast is excellent. The location is perfect for a quiet base from which to -visit Hastings and other East Sussex resorts or villages and free on-site parking is always welcome. Our daughter has only recently moved to Hastings and this was our first visit but with visits becoming a regular thing, I think we.ve already found our perfect place to stay so we will definitely be returning!

Our particular room had a bath with an over bath shower but no shower screen, so it would have been impossible to have a shower without flooding the floor, so we didn't try. Running a full bath was the only viable alternative to a wash so next time we might ask for a room with a walk in shower.

We arrived at the hotel after an active day of cycling at Bewl Water and found it a really relaxing place to stay. The welcome was nice and we enjoyed a lovely meal in the large restaurant, complete with good attentive service. Our room was comfortable and the extra large bed made for a good night's sleep. Breakfast was more than adequate and offered a good selection of items. We travel a great deal, both for business and leisure and the test is always whether you would choose to go back to the same hotel. I'm sure we'll be returning to the Brickwall Hotel.

The very noisy fan in the bathroom probably needs servicing, but at least it had a fan, which so many bathrooms don't seem to. The shower over the bath was effective enough, but upgrading to a specific shower unit would be good when the bathroom is next refurbished.

The room we were offered had a bath shower, with no overhead facility for the shower head. Also I have a bad knee, so climbing in and out of the bath would have been difficult. The receptionist very kindly changed it for a room with an excellent walk-in shower. The bed was large and comfortable, and the reading lamps were very good and well placed. Wardrobe and drawer space was generous, with sturdy and well made furniture. There were plenty of mirrors. Because we have a dog a fully laid table was set up in the lounge area next to a roaring log fire. Breakfast was good, but the choice of cereals was limited and there were only flavoured yogurts, with croissants one morning but not the next. The cooked breakfast was good and generous, and the dinner was good with generous portions and a large selection of vegetables. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The hotel is well placed for visiting Battle, Hastings and the surrounding area. We enjoyed our stay.

Good hotel in good location - i booked last minute-ish so was happy to get somewhere near Rye. There was plenty of parking and a good breakfast. the room was spacious and in a good location in the hotel. Apart from the first night, it was a quiet place to stay.

the tv was very small, and i would have appreciated a fridge - i had the dog with me and had nowhere to put her raw food, so she was on tinned tuna during our stay. i understand because theres a restaurant and breakfast, is probably the reason why there isnt a fridge. The £20 a night for the dog was a shocker - that was not to be seen/ not made clear on booking.com and the hotel were quite blase when i asked, they said everyone who books with us does know... I had paid £105 per night based on the dog included - it ended up being £125 a night, i wouldve have booked somewhere else at this price. the hotel and my room decor and furnishings were tired - it was clean though.

Excellent staff and service. A good sized room with required facilities; a nice window view onto pretty inner quadrangle

Everything was good-except soundproofing which was poor-and I have stayed a a good number of hotels in my 60 years! I really rated the hotel and would stay there again, parking was good, the surroundings were pleasant and quiet, the food was fine. But , I would take my earplugs to block out snoring coughing neighbours. I am not sure if all the rooms suffered this limitation. I dont think it bothered my husband-and I am a bit overly sensitive to noise but -it was a significant limitation to an otherwise very well run and pleasant, spacious and clean hotel.

The whole authentic ambience, some paintwork may be required but the room size, peaceful location, efficiently friendly professional staff, lounge areas, outstanding food and extremely comfortable bed more than made up for a small lick of paint needed.

The bathroom radiator within my room was extremely hot. I attempted to turn it down, but it made no difference. I didn't ask any staff members to attend to it as I didn't want the result to be possibly too cool! It would be advisable to have the radiator checked.

Despite we have arrived last minute, ( before the kitchen was closed) ,still they were so kind and got some dinner to us! The staff were super kid and helpful with everything! The bedroom was spotless, bathroom super clean. I only did not like a little that there were some cobweb on the corridors. You must know I am super scared of spiders. So it is not an issue really. :) The food was fresh and delicious!

Some cobwebs on the corridors.

The breakfast is delicious. Choice of full English breakfast cooked to order. Also toast, yogurt, fruit, cereal and mini pastries. Tea and coffee and juice. Staff are very helpful and friendly. We were made to feel quite special. A period property in a great location for visiting Battle, Bodiam castle and the seaside. Hotel in a beautiful village and we loved the geese on the green! Lots of car spaces in car park. We paid for evening meal one night which was fabulous. Comfortable bed in room.

We would've liked a proper shower over the bath.
