I stayed in the room right at the top of two flights of stairs. It was very quaint with low timber beams and a lovely view. The setting was very peaceful and the garden around the hotel very pretty with many flowers in bloom. The bed was comfortable. The room had kettle, teas, coffees, biscuits and mineral water. Breakfast was tasty especially as I hadn't realized it was included in the price I'd paid (-definitely the best value place with charm in the area)! There were juices, cereals, traditional English breakfast, toast and jams, and yoghurts. The coffee tasted like filter coffee and was served in a pot. Staff were polite and friendly. The price - I paid £64 for a double room with full English breakfast. As a regular visitor to the area with an elderly parent in nearby Hailsham, I know this is extremely good value.

The shower was very small but this may have been smaller than in other rooms. After a very long hike, it was too small to immerse myself properly to get rid of the aches. For one night it was okay but if you were walking a lot everyday you'd need a bigger shower or a bath. Although the room's white and grey decor was very pretty and summery, the white blinds were impractical - I woke up at 4.30 am due to the brightness. Some grey blackout curtains would be much better but more expensive to maintain in terms of cleaning. (It would be good to have some decaf coffee sachets provided in the room too.)

We stayed one night at Chalk Farm LDC as a family of three (with a toddler) and really enjoyed our time there. The room was a great size for us and had a charming modern vintage style, with lovely features like wooden beams and a fireplace. The bathroom was small but had everything we needed for a short stay. Breakfast was a tasty full English, and the peaceful setting made for a relaxing visit. It’s also close to the town center, with some nice pub options nearby. Staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Highly recommend for a short, comfortable family stay!

The only downside was the noise—we were near the staircase, and it would be great to have a sign reminding guests to be mindful of noise for others staying nearby. Still, we'd happily recommend this place for a short, family-friendly getaway.

Free parking onsite and a warm friendly welcome on arrival. Room had everything that we needed and also tea/coffee making facilities, which we didn't expect as it wasn't mentioned in the description so a pleasant surprise. Bed was fairly comfortable and the hotel was very quiet/peaceful. There are a couple of pubs and a Thai restaurant within walking distance. Breakfast was very good, and served swiftly. Staff were all very helpful.

No complaints - our room was quite quirky with sloping floors, and windows that don't quite close but that didn't cause us any problems.

We loved the quiet location of this property, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We needed breakfast a bit earlier than they serve it, so we’re in the dining room ready at 7:20…and they served us straight away, and the food came fast, and was lovely! We got a good recommendation for somewhere to eat in the evening, along the road at the Red Lion…a word of caution…we were there on a Tuesday night, and it was busy! The food was great, and the service too, and they warned of a wait, but it was worth it!

The mattress could do with an update.

Stayed for 5 nights, it is a period traditional old farmhouse, room was spacious & quirky in keeping with the type of property. Bed was comfy and the breakfast was really good. Enough choice and cooked breakfast catered to our wishes. All the staff were wonderfully friendly and so helpful, nothing was too much trouble, can't ask for more than that.... lovely garden centre attached too. Think the work they do as a not for profit charity is fantastic :) We loved it !

The hotel is a characterful old building with a lovely garden on a quiet street. Comfortable beds in a clean room. Good breakfast with the option of a full English, and toast, cereals, yoghurt etc. Interesting to learn about the association with George Orwell and Animal Farm!

The twin room (number 5) had very low ceilings - I'm just over 6 foot and could only stand up straight in one corner of the room and had to crouch in the bathroom. Would not recommend this room unless you are 5 foot 9 or under, or don't mind stooping.

Great friendly welcome. Cosy country farm cottage, with querky layout. Free parking just outside. Superb breakfast cooked to order and very pleasantly served.

Creeky bed. The TV was a bit awkwardly placed, (in a twin room) a long way from one of the beds and to the side wall of the other, so basically you would not be able to watch it from the bed it was placed above on the side wall. Though I appreciate they didn't really have a lot of options on where else they could place it!

Five of us had a great stay. Very nice property with good parking and in a rural setting. The staff are great and ever so helpful. The veg/vegan breakfast was tasty and very well prepared. Lovely coffee, juices, cereals. The room for 5 was large and had everything we required. The training this establishment provides to local people is wonderful. Well done and I hope visit again!

We checked in and the room we were given had low ceilings. My partner bumped his head a few times. When we mentioned this to the staff they immediately said they would change the room for us. The night and day staff were excellent, So accommodating and friendly. The hotel was characteristic and nice. The breakfast was perfect for what we wanted. Check in and check out were easy We will definitely stay again, in the second room we were given.

Great base for walking, very good restaurants/pubs nearby. Lovely, friendly hotel staff, very welcoming and helpful throughout. Good breakfast, friendly efficient service. Wonderful, idyllic location with historical connections to George Orwell.

Property is old and therefore not suitable for those looking for boutique or very high quality/comfortable accommodation. But this suited us fine, as we're pretty down to earth and were there for the walking more than anything else.
