The hotel was full of character with a very warm welcome from the owners. Dogs are welcome everywhere which suited us and our cockapoo. The bedrooms were charming and clean. Particular reference to fresh ground coffee in the rooms. I have never had this before and meant in room coffee was of an excellent standard. The hotel has access to some beautiful walks from the doorstep whilst still being only a short drive to all the well known walks in Exmoor. The food standard was high and there was an excellent wine menu.
I cannot name one negative.

Stayed one night on a long walk at this lovely dog friendly old pub with small garden. Our rooms were large and comfortable with excellent beds, tea making facilities, good WIFI and everything we needed. In fact we got an unexpected upgrade to a room with a four poster bed and extra sitting area! Dinner was excellent with everything we ordered being very tasty. All the staff were lovely and friendly too with the owner Simon being very chatty and advising the best route for our continuing walk and helping out with some "extras" for a birthday celebration that evening! Great draught cider selection of Sheppy's and Orchard Thieves too. We slept really well as it was so lovely and quiet - highly recommended, we would definitely return!
Nothing major - one window wouldn't open and the water wasn't quite hot enough for a bath.

A beautiful old building in an historic village. The owner Simon, was extremely welcoming and told us a bit about the history of the area. The room itself was lovely. Decor was in keeping with the age of the property and two window seats where you could sit and read a book in the afternoon sun. Perfect. The bathroom was clean and modern with a huge bath and excellent integrated shower. I booked this room as my husband has recently had an operation and so sleeping in the same space can be tricky. The very large sofa is easily big enough to be a single bed and so I was confident I could decamp to it if necessary. As it turned out it wasn’t needed as the bed is plenty big enough and really comfortable. As a vegan I am delighted with the effort that was made to accommodate me. From the oat milk in our room to the delicious meal I enjoyed in the restaurant - cooked by Caroline, Simon’s wife. Oh yes - fresh coffee in the room - brilliant!
Nothing. Only wish we could stay longer.

Dinner was excellent. Cooked breakfast was good. Host offered to help with our bags. Open fire once in main building. Very attractive building to be coming to after a long drive and bad weather. Attractive large bedroom with en suite.
Our room could have been both aired and checked earlier. There were not just live wasps in, but dead ones too. Any kind of true check would have revealed their presence. Heating had not been on long enough on an awful November day to really make the room feel homely. (We arrived when we had indicated we would). All rooms seem to be in a separate building. This is v convenient for moving luggage from the very easy parking.

The Notley Arms was a total joy to stay at. It was deep in the National Park and was a great experience for both me and my Californian friends. The team that ran it were great, always open for a chat and accommodated all requests made, be that help with somewhere to stay the following night or breakfast preferences not included in the regular menu. Dinner was also a tasty, wholesome treat after a long drive. We will absolutely visit again, many thanks for all of your care and consideration

The Notley Arms is an absolutely beautiful property with well appointed rooms. The rooms were well done with beautiful pieces of furniture and everything you could possibly need. Simon and Caroline were amazing. My daughters loved their time here. They went absolutely above and beyond to make our stay amazing. The food was excellent and the service equally so. If you are lucky enough to stay here I assure you will have a great stay. The location is amazing the most beautiful part of the world. I will definitely be back
Nothing. I truly cannot find fault.

Such a romantic, comfortable hideaway right out on the moor. We arrived in the dark through beautiful locations with bats flying around the car and we were also late but owners insisted on looking after us and feeding us anyway. Food was absolutely outstanding and finished off with a birthday glass of champagne 🍾 Had a great chat with Simon after a lovely breakfast and he showed us the old church behind the property and gave us a load of history on it and on local sights. Room was comfy and clean and the bed super comfy. Great place :)

The setting, the staff, the food, the decor, the ambiance - everything about our 2 nights at Notley Arms was a lovely experience. We would highly recommend to others visiting the area.. Monksilver is a beautiful village and very convenient base for exploring Exmoor. Simon & Caroline are exceptional hosts treating each guest as special and have so much information about the whole area to share. The accommodation has character and lots of nice touches and is spotless. Never seen a cleaner shower anywhere on our travels - including at home!! Thanks for a wonderful time!
Sound proofing between rooms was slightly distracting but we understand how hard it is to achieve perfection in an old listed building full of character & beautifully restored.

Very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful location, fabulous food and bar, gorgeous room, friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Definitely be coming back. Excellent value for a bit of luxury.
The heating had probably been turned down because the weeks prior to our visit had been very warm for the time of year. Unfortunately it was chilly during our visit so we were a bit cold. Perhaps a extra heater in the room for this time of year?
