From the moment we arrived at Hotel Corps de Garde, we knew we were in for something special. Nestled in a beautifully restored historic building right at the edge of Groningen’s charming city center, this boutique hotel seamlessly blends timeless elegance with modern comfort. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and effortlessly stylish. You can feel the building’s history in every corner, yet the interior design is contemporary and chic – a perfect balance of old-world charm and fresh sophistication. Our room was simply fabulous – spacious, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully equipped with all the modern amenities we needed. The bed was like a cloud, the bathroom was immaculate, and we loved the little personal touches that made the stay feel extra special. What truly sets Corps de Garde apart, though, is the service. The staff were exceptional – genuinely friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and always eager to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. From insider tips on where to eat and explore, to a delicious breakfast that was a highlight in itself, everything was done with care and pride. The location couldn’t be better. Just a short walk from all of Groningen’s main attractions, yet peaceful enough to feel like a retreat from the bustle of the city. Whether you’re in town for culture, shopping, or just to soak in the local vibe, this hotel is the perfect home base. We left feeling completely relaxed, thoroughly spoiled, and already dreaming of our return. Hotel Corps de Garde isn’t just a place to stay – it’s an experience to savor. Highly recommended – a true gem in Groningen!

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They made you feel at home. Great experience overall.
The room was a bit warm or not enough airflow. The room itself was very nice and the bed was comfortable.

Great location by the canal. Beautiful deco and comfortable. Felt luxurious but homely. I loved the little touches . A coffee machine in our room and fresh cakes in the dining room to take.

Beautiful old building. Super friendly staff, spacious room with high ceiling. Tea, coffee machine is in the room. It is not in the middle of center but Groningen is not huge city, you could walk everywhere within 10 mins. Parking across the street with discount rate! But best of all is hotel staff- you are best!!!
You hear sounds from other rooms sometimes but that is normal for this type of old building..

Great location, big and nicely decorated room, very comfortable bed, very polite and helpful staff. Breakfast was ok value for the money, not extremely big choice of food, but can fit to everyone’s needs and taste.

Corps de Garde, Groningen — Dutch Charm with a View Some hotels feel like they could be anywhere. This one couldn’t be anywhere but here. Corps de Garde is a great little Dutch hotel in the truest sense—practical without being plain, warm without fuss, and perched right at the entrance to Groningen’s old town. Step outside and the city opens up like a map you want to get lost in. The restaurant? Exceptionally good—actually, really good—and the breakfast they bring you in the morning is brilliant. Fresh, thoughtful, unhurried. The rooms carry that same Dutch sensibility: clean lines, plenty of light, and in my case, one very large main room with lots of space to stretch out. The showers are excellent. It’s a hotel that works for motorcyclists, too—safe underground parking sits right across the way, so you can tuck your bike in without worry. The service is just right: friendly, attentive, without the over-scripted smile. The kind of staff you actually want to talk to. Sure, my room overlooked the street, which meant privacy could be a challenge—but close the curtains, pour a drink, and you’ve got all you need. Good service, good company, good food. Very Dutch. And that’s the highest compliment I can give.

Every member of staff we encountered, were absolutely fantastic. Can't fault the staff one single bit. Great people, all very friendly and helpful, especially Fiona. Thank you for making our trip so good. Staff allowed us to park our motorcycles in the rear secure area, which was very much appreciated.
We stayed in room 5, a lovely room, but it was very dark, even in the daytime. Also, it overlooks the kitchen area, and when trying to sleep, you could hear the staff talking late at night and then early in the morning. Also, think this is where the staff smoke, and this drifts into the room if you have the windows open. Only small things, but could be improved. Would I stay there again?? Probably yes, just because of the staff.
