Room large and spacious. Bed comfortable. Excellent breakfast, bacon was amazing! Nice bar and lounge area. Friendly staff, happy to store luggage after check out. Nice towels and toiletries. Location good for the Hoe.

Rooms are a little tired and in need of some TLC. That said, choice of fabrics and wallpapers obviously high quality. Very clean with the exception of bedroom carpet which had a lot of marks. Setting up tables for lunch while still taking breakfast. Traffic noise from the road in front of hotel disturbed sleep.

Everything was just fantastic. Spotlessly clean room. Wonderful staff each and everyone of them. Very happy to help nothing too much trouble. The staff obviously love what and where they are working. It comes across in everything. The lovely lady at the evening meals & still there for breakfast in the morning. Is a real asset to the whole hotel. Not just brilliant at her job. But so happy to help you in any way. Lovely young lady on the checking out this morning. Also must say wonderful food breakfast & excellent evening meals. We just want to say. Thank you to you all. Will definitely be back again.

Nothing to dislike.

Lovely building close to shops, take aways and restaurants. Couple of minutes walk to Wetherspoons. Not far to walk to the hoe and main shopping centre. Directly opposite Princess Pavilions for concerts. Friendly, welcoming staff both on reception and at breakfast. Easy check in. Bit dated in some places but good value for money. Excellent breakfast in a nice spacious dining room. I had a great bedroom, plenty of light and space . Nice to have both a bath and shower. Tv worked well. Room refresh every day if you want it. I was doing a training course here in the conference room, so it was perfect to just go back to my room afterwards. Room service food was really nice and generous portions. Reception called me a taxi to the station, arrived within a couple of minutes and only about £7

Nothing really. Could have been left more milk/coffee etc in my room but there was a place to pick up more by reception.

The history of the building we liked but realise it would not suit those wanting a more modern hotel. Our room was a very decent size and I very much appreciated that there was a bath as well as the shower. Our bed was extremely comfortable too. The staff were very helpful and each morning fetched me a milk alternative for my coffee which I was very grateful for.

The static shower-head being in the middle of the cubicle was annoying if I wanted just a quick shower without washing my hair as my hair got wet regardless! On the last morning we went down in plenty of time for breakfast but weren’t able to choose our own meal from the buffet as staff were clearing the room preparing for a wedding later that day. This was rather disappointing.

I really love the character, history and style of rooms. Please never change the old fashioned style. My room was like staying in a dolls house.

The lamps in my room had unsightly long chords and were wonky but seemed this would be an easy fix or repair; so I wasn't able to take as many photos as I wanted here.. just a small thing which isn't a big problem! It would be amazing if there was at least one room with a fridge; as it certainly book that room. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be staying here for more than one night again as not having a fridge in the room during summer, for longer stays is a bit frustrating, but again small problem. The shower was terrible and I could not have a shower despite paying for a room upgrade so I expected better. The bath was fine though so I can't complain.

Location and history.

We parked in the hotel car park one night and on going to get the car the next morning we discovered that there were multiple leaks from the hotel drainage down the wall of the hotel and spilling in to the car park. A worker from the hotel was there saying it was the bathrooms’ drainage. The smell was beyond awful! Apparently it’s a frequent issue. Not hygienic at all and a real shame. On the second day there were no staff present when we arrived for breakfast. We chose a window table, there was only one other table occupied. A bit later an employee came over and pretty much shouted at us to move as she wanted to use that table for someone else! All other tables bar one were vacant! This employee then refused to help at all for the rest of the meal on some issues we had.

A last minute booking, great Location, lovely historic building, great staff and a good evening meal. The Hotel is sort of days of former glory, but lovely with it. If you want a modern corporate hotel it won't be for you. However if you appreciate good warm polite service and a cosy comfortable old school Hotel, you will be in the right place. This place has a soul! Our room was slightly dated, but large and comfortable and the bathroom was to a good modern standard and as clean you will find (a rare thing these days!) Excellent value and we would love to stay again.

Slightly expensive on street parking, not that easy to sort on the phone....but that's modern life and not really the fault of the Hotel. We will arrive early if we go again and try and get in the small hotel car park.

We stayed the one night to come and see the brilliant 'Hamilton' at the TRP, so if you're into history and the romance of a bygone era, then this hotel is for you. Yes, it may need upgrading in some parts, but we loved the tiny lift and creaking floorboards underfoot. It's a lovely old hotel and we received a warm welcome on reception. All staff we came into contact with were friendly and courteous. On checking in, we were given an upgrade to the "Tower Suite" and what a surprise! Lovely comfortable Queen bed, soft white towels, and the most amazing 360-degree views of Plymouth. We slept well and enjoyed a tasty breakfast. Thank you for making our belated anniversary treat extra special.

The teeniest thing, but the coffee at breakfast was a tad weak for my taste. But it's only personal preference.

The hotel was lovely and in a very good location for our needs. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was large and had a good shower and a bath.

The bathroom had almost no surfaces to put sponge bags and contents on. The room was very warm. The floors were very creaky, which meant that it was noisy above us. The gluten free options for breakfast were limited. Although I told them when I booked the only real specific provision was gluten free bread; the rest was 'take your pick from what we've got if it happens to be gluten free' I am used to this lack of any extra provision, but it would be nice if they made an effort when you told them in advance, especially as we were there for three nights.

As well as looking impressive in the front from the street, the communal area and stair-well of this hotel building have the "wow" factor that is so good to see in an older hotel. The decor is beautiful, and well cared for. We had a "superior" room, which was spacious, warm and with two windows. The large bathroom had a bath and separate shower. The bed was large and extremely comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was cooked to order - so much better than lukewarm buffet food. The location is perfect for anyone going to, or (as we were) coming back from, France on Brittany Ferries. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. I absolutely loved, and totally approved of, the folded information sheet that doubled up as the wallet for the door key card. All hotels should follow suit!!

We suggested when we left that it would be a good idea to place a small shelf in the shower cubicle, rather than expect people to have to bend down to pick the shower gel dispenser up from the floor. Whilst the hotel building at the front looks the part, it is in need of a bit more attention at the back on the outside, and the pathway from the car park to the back door is rather basic - but I am sure these are works in progress.
