As well as looking impressive in the front from the street, the communal area and stair-well of this hotel building have the "wow" factor that is so good to see in an older hotel. The decor is beautiful, and well cared for. We had a "superior" room, which was spacious, warm and with two windows. The large bathroom had a bath and separate shower. The bed was large and extremely comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was cooked to order - so much better than lukewarm buffet food. The location is perfect for anyone going to, or (as we were) coming back from, France on Brittany Ferries. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. I absolutely loved, and totally approved of, the folded information sheet that doubled up as the wallet for the door key card. All hotels should follow suit!!

We suggested when we left that it would be a good idea to place a small shelf in the shower cubicle, rather than expect people to have to bend down to pick the shower gel dispenser up from the floor. Whilst the hotel building at the front looks the part, it is in need of a bit more attention at the back on the outside, and the pathway from the car park to the back door is rather basic - but I am sure these are works in progress.

The hotel was lovely and in a very good location for our needs. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was large and had a good shower and a bath.

The bathroom had almost no surfaces to put sponge bags and contents on. The room was very warm. The floors were very creaky, which meant that it was noisy above us. The gluten free options for breakfast were limited. Although I told them when I booked the only real specific provision was gluten free bread; the rest was 'take your pick from what we've got if it happens to be gluten free' I am used to this lack of any extra provision, but it would be nice if they made an effort when you told them in advance, especially as we were there for three nights.

Wonderful stay at this grand old hotel. Staff are so freindly and the hotel feels very special and historic. It's in a great location, just on the edge of the centre and walking distance to all the attractions. The hotel makes you feel like you are stepping back in time, there's a real sense of grandeur. Breakfast is excellent, really delicious cooked to order and great service team too. Our room was really lovely. Super comfortable bed and wonderful views acorss the city and towards Mount Edgcombe. The bathroom was a little bit tired but very clean and a nice strong shower. Certainly nothing to complain about. The incredible staircase and relaxed ambience is really special, we love the vibe here and will certainly choose Duke of Cornwall again for our next Plymouth visit. Car park out the back of the hotel is very handy too - just arrive early to get a spot.

Nothing, we love this place so don't hesitate to book.

Wow - what a stunning building! Lovely big room with a supremely comfortable bed. Amazing breakfast. Friendly welcoming staff. On balance, the pros defo outweigh the cons by a country mile. We’d defo stay here again and would recommend to others.

We were misadvised about the breakfast times and arrived 8 mins later than the cut off time. Although we were offered toast and access to the cold buffet this was very disappointing given that we were looking forward to a repeat of the previous day’s amazing brekkie. We also found the bar area quite stark but it looks like it’s been recently redecorated so maybe they just haven’t got round to putting up any pics or soft decor yet.

room location was great! in the special tower! thank you. One lady at reception was very caring and helpful. Staff helped with luggage thank you! We had to visit A&E, hotel was very helpful when i returned alone without husband who stayed waiting in A&E, to pack and staff helped me with my luggage. Thank you

Another lady was professional but distant and not prepared to put herself out, by stopping a private conversation for me to ask something. She did not have 'the customer is always right' approach! We were disappointed that we could not have afternoon tea on arrival, as this has to be ordered in advance. I dont believe this was very clear either on booking .com or on their website. I am sure it is written there, but not in bold or clearly that it is not normally available. I appreciate they wish to provide it fresh, however had it been clearer i would have called and ordered it the day before or 2 days before.

Stunning hotel I used to live in Plymouth and had no idea how gorgeous this hotel is 😍 My partner also became interested as the receptionist chatted happily about the hidden bar to earnest shackleton. Lovely helpful staff, from the maintenance manager, reception & concierge, .the list goes on... The hotel is dated, but that's why I loved it so much. It's also spotless! I genuinely couldn't get over how beautiful this place is, but this is our preference. We stayed in a budget room through choice as we went to a party. However, we are planning to stay again in the shackleton suite 😀

The hotel looks a little grubby at the back, but no fault of the hotel Also, the confusion over breakfast. We were told it finished at 10:30 am. We were firmly told we were cutting it fine by arriving at 09:30. She then went on to refuse another guest who was also told 10:30.

The guest was my 84 year old father staying on his own who has mobility issues. He said the food in the restaurant was lovely and the staff were really friendly. Hotel was in a good location

No bedside table next to the bed which is inconvenient as nowhere to put a glass of water or glasses at night which could be dangerous during the night if you can't see properly. Also a rail in the shower would be useful. Dad's room wasn't cleaned one day and when he queried it was told the staff had left for the day.

A beautiful, authentic hotel. It was a wonderfully wholesome stay. I visited with my two young sons and they had the best time. They want to make it our new Christmas tradition. The breakfast was really good. The bed was super comfortable and the room warm.

The carpark is small but thankfully there is on street parking right by the hotel. £16 for 24 hours. There would be more spaces available if people stuck to the parking spaces. I unfortunately had to park on the street despite there being 3 spaces left due to people not parking in the lines. This is of course no fault of the hotel.

Loved the warmth, elegance and comfort of the hotel. The staff were knowledgeable, caring and efficient. Fascinated to hear the history and links to the Titanic. Food at breakfast & dinner was delicious, as was the buffet spread for my relatives funeral. Extremely good value for money.

Our room has very dirty windows.inside & out. They were.really yuck. Room 204. Otherwise, our stay was excellent. It might not be an ultra modern but bland hotel. But for us, it captured a byegone age. Luxe chandeliers, sweeping grand staircase ( lifts available) and oil paintings. Maybe a bit tired in places, but warm, comfortable, clean and cosy. Excellent food, great stay.

Comfortable bed. Great breakfast and location ideal for our needs.

The shower, it took a while for the hot water to come through and when it did it got very hot but to turn on or adjust the cold water you had to reach under the water which was not ideal. I appreciate it's an old building with traditional sash windows that do let the draft in, but on arrival, our room was freezing cold. Not sure of the problem as a receptionist said the heating is on a timer? But also heard there was air in the system, so I was unsure what the problem actually was!! Come the morning our room was warm, too warm for me lol
