The rooms were lovely - we booked a king pool room and a twin French room. V comfortable and stylish and furnished with antiques Grounds and both pools were lovely

It’s about 10-15 minutes in a grab to the main Hue sites so a little out of town especially in traffic Service was a little slow - waited 40 minutes for lunch and there was nobody on hand offering drinks round the pool - we even had to go find cushions and towels to put on the loungers ourselves . For a 5* property we expected a little more

First of, I rarely give any comment. I am a solo bicycles traveler looking for a nice place to stay. I spent total of 5 nights. The place was a gem hidden away from the noise and pollution of the city yet minutes away from everything. I marveled at the design, color choices, and the greenery. What even amazing was, I found out, the owner was blind in his youth. He was a student of architecture and design. Every details of the room was taken into account, from brass trimmed sink stand to brass-plated shower head all painstakingly selected for matching. It even has the water-pressure knob for the sanitary spray. The guy was a detail-oriented freak. The staff were super helpful and friendly. They would clean my room multiple times a day or any time I am out of my room. It was insane. I would highly recommend this place and love to stay the old wooden-built room, Truong Tien next time. I would be a delight to talk to the owner one day. Meanwhile, keep up the amazing work. It was a joy to stay.

The country houses of the Imperial Court Mandarins were the “garden houses”. This outstanding hotel is an elegant conversion of one of those. Furnished with taste and respect for tradition, surrounded by a spectacular garden, is managed by a professional, courteous and helpful staff, careful to anticipate every need. They granted me an unexpected upgrade to a luxurious apartment: it seemed to me to sleep in one of the ancient pagodas I visited in Hue. Fabulous. The restaurant alone, for its furnishings and accurate reconstruction of the interior of a typical “garden house”, for the view of the garden and for the everyday changing mis-en-place, as well as for the menu, is worth trying if you are in Hue.

We stayed at Ancient Hue Garden Houses in June 2025 and chose the Bach Ma House for its beautiful traditional architecture and boutique feel. The grounds are peaceful, and it’s clear a lot of care has gone into preserving the details that make the place so special. It felt like a quiet escape from the outside world, with just the right mix of charm and comfort. What truly set the experience apart was the thoughtful, gracious hospitality. Every member of the team made us feel welcome and well cared for, with just the right balance of warmth and professionalism. On the morning of my birthday, they surprised me with a dessert and birthday song at breakfast — a gesture I hadn’t expected and will always remember. During our stay, we encountered a minor issue — and the way Ms. Ha Le, the manager, handled it left a deep impression on us. She responded with empathy, attentiveness, and a level of professionalism that spoke volumes about her experience in boutique hospitality. In an age where service often feels transactional, this was a rare reminder of what true five-star hospitality looks like. Ancient Hue is a special place — rich in character, beautifully run, and full of heart. We left feeling not only rested but genuinely cared for.

We stayed for 2 nights in June. we had one room in the old-style part of the hotel for us and one room in the French-style part of the hotel for our adult children (as they can't do twin beds in the old-style rooms). Both rooms were spacious, clean, had lovely bathrooms. The hotel had two lovely swimming pools - one in each part of the hotel and neither were busy. Breakfast was all ordered (i.e. not a buffet) but you could order over and over if you wanted more of anything, and it was all very tasty. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but they had complimentary afternoon tea - which was a lovely break in the day. The location is excellent - located centrally in the area of the main sites. Grabs were easy to get. We did the local sites ourselves and then hired a car+driver (arranged ourselves although the hotel offered) for an afternoon to go around the sites that were further afield (the three main tombs and the abandoned water park). The hotel team were very friendly and helpful. This was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and we would definitely stay there again.

Nothing could be improved from our perspective.

We were charmed! Gorgeous room in a serenely beautiful setting, off a narrow lane. It feels like staying (and being pampered) in a scented secret garden. Service is warm and personal - we received genuinely great tips and local intel tailored to our wishes rather than standard package tour patter. Nyuyen delivered stand-out service, with a delightful dose of mischief. Fab breakfast and pool and the afternoon tea was a grwat touch. It's not an easy place to leave.

It wasn't clear beforehand that half the property was undergoing renovation. Great care was taken to ensure this didn't impact guests - and it didn't - but it did mean we couldn't see exactly what's shown on Booking.com.

This hotel was our luxury Hotel stay while in Vietnam and it looked and felt sumptuous. The beautiful and old architecture and antique furnishings were complimented by a conscientious staff and service that you would expect of a fine hotel. Our large room was everything we expected with a balcony overlooking the garden and pool and a large soaking tub in the bathroom. The included breakfast was made to order and included both Vietnamese and Western offerings. We had excellent eggs benedict one day and good pho noodle soup the last day. We stayed in one night for dinner and again it was excellent. We also partook of the high tea one afternoon with an interesting choice of Vietnamese treats and the free 30 minute foot and leg massage at their spa. The hotel is fairly close to the Perfume River and we enjoyed and evening stroll along the river front and felt safe walking back to the hotel after sunset as many people were out and walking about.

Not under the Hotel's control but the Cicadas in Hue when we were there in April were very, very loud. Walking to our room at the hotel we heard them all along the walkway as well as a rooster nearby. Luckily, once in the room we did not hear the cicadas unless you opened the bathroom window. From the front balcony you could hear the rooster and calls to prayer from a nearby Mosque but it did not disturb us in the morning when the doors were closed.

It was magical to experience sleeping in the traditional garden house. It is small and cute and really peaceful, great place to relax after busy day of sightseeing. It is slightly outside of the city centre but only a short taxi ride to town. The area is great for a little safe bike ride and there is some cute really old houses in the area. Hotel does their own bike excursion for 2 hours to visit the traditional mandarin house inside combined with visit to hat making studio of local artist and really authentic local restaurant to make dumplings. We had amazing two days and it was hard to leave. All staff at the hotel without exception went above and beyond to make sure we enjoy our time there.

Ancient Hue Garden Houses is one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in. Tucked away from the busy centre of Hue, the hotel is an architecturally stunning, calm retreat that makes you feel like you have stepped back into historic Vietnam. We stayed in one of the the traditional ancient ‘imperial’ houses and were blown away by the beautiful details like the mother of pearl inlaid designs in the furniture and ceiling and enjoyed the large hot tub in our room too! What really made this place stand out though is the service, staff got in touch before we arrived to make sure we had food ordered and ready for us as we were arriving so late in the evening, for instance. The food itself was exceptional too and there’s a choice of two restaurants - one serving Vietnamese food and the other French cuisine. We would happily return here!

Stunning rooms/villas with beautiful decor and very pretty communal areas and restaurants. The design is as nice as the pictures. Breakfast and dinner was very good! Also the spa was lovely. If you take a grab/taxi, you'll be in the Ancient Imperial City in 7 minutes, so location is great too.

It's a Vietnamese town so you can't expect utter tranquility but it did take us a while to fall asleep due to animal noises and the one odd neighbour blaring music in the late hours (not every night though). Did not bother us during the day and we had peaceful hours by the pool too
