The location of Birnam Hotel is great. Beatrix Potter Garden and Exhibit are just across the street. Walking distance to Dunkeld. River Tay is an easy walk away. Hotel has all of the basics. Staff helped with any of our questions. The price here was much better than others in the area.

As others have written, the hotel is a bit tired feeling. It seems that some "sprucing up" would go a long way to restoring this old beauty to its intended state. Communication could be more intentional--we don't mind re-using towels on a 2-night stay, but I don't remember being told about that. We needed to ask for more instant coffee for the hot pot in the room. For us, there were no big problems--it would just be nice to return one day and to find Birnam Hotel a little brighter. It just seems to have a sweetness about it that is hidden these days.

The twin bedroom was spacious for two people sharing a room for one night. The ensuite bathroom (though only with a shower) had been recently redone in a modern style and was very clean. I particularly liked the generous size of the shower. The staff at reception (Paul) was very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

The bed was a little soft for me so not totally comfortable, but I am very fussy. Tea and coffee making facilities were available in the room but were a little basic.

Really beautiful building, the room was lovely with an arm chair aswell as excellent beds plus the usual facilities of tea and coffee iron hair drier etc. The staff could not have been more helpful and the breakfast was extremely good and generous at a reasonable cost. Plenty of car parking spaces and easily walkable to the centre of Dunkeld. The local art centre is opposite which has excellent coffee and cakes etc which is useful as the Hotel itself currently only offers breakfast and the Inn next door which has the dinner service does not open till noon.

A better evening meal option would be good as the Inn next door has a very limited menu

The location and the building itself are stunning, and the interior is nice, too. Next door at the Birnam Inn, the food was excellent - a really good pizza and the staff there was very nice, too.

The room was a bit cold, and an electric heater was provided, which provided some heat but not enough. I used to come here for lunch sometimes when I was up at Dunkeld and used to get the roast beef from the bar area, but the bar doesn't seem to be open the way it used to be.

The Victorian building is huge and beautiful. Out of season it was rather quiet which was really nice. The price for a double room was very reasonable. Breakfast was excellent and the staff helpful. The village of Birnam is lovely and excellent town of Dunkeld is only 10mins walk away. The walking in the countryside is excellent and varied.

The hotel is rather large and perhaps needs a bit more TLC. It must be fine in the summer but in January the communal rooms were a bit chilly, Our room was warm though, so I didn't mind too much!

The woman at the front desk when we checked in was beyond lovely. Unfortunately I can't remember her name but she was very welcoming and charming. She made us feel very safe and comfortable. The outside of the building and entrance to the hotel was beautiful and looked very enticing. It was also nice and quiet.

The bed wasn't very comfortable. The inside of the room didn't look quite as fancy as the lobby but it is quite an old building. One of our window panels was smashed and repaired with tape and let in a slight draft. Despite these issues, I would stay again if staying in the area.

Perfect location and on site parking. Staff very helpful and allowed me to check in early to allow me to attend function. Didn’t actually use room in the end but it was clean tidy and had everything needed for a basic stay.

Tbh hotel was fit for purpose, nice and traditional throughout. I’m sure if millions spent it would be a lot trendier but price would also be a lot more.

Hotel was a beautiful old building, a little tired in some places but very clean and comfortable, the staff were great especially the chef, very friendly and welcoming, breakfast was good although a little overpriced but cooked very well with a good choice , the room was very large with a magnificent view, the ensuite had a bath which was very welcoming after a day's walking, we will be back and would certainly recommend this hotel

A great location for exploring Perthshire and Birnam and Dunkeld. The cooked to order breakfast was a highlight. The staff were all friendly and very helpful.

During busy times, I think the hotel suffers from a lack of staff. The one who are there are very polite and helpful, but clearly they are spinning alot of plates and covering many roles within the hotel.

This was a possitive experience in a lovely hotel with a wonderful front of hotel guy. Arranged for the bike to be stored safely for the night. A lift, an unusual experience as it was very old but safely got us to our floor. Not all hotels have lifts as I have fould out during our tour! Breakfast was very good and again the staff were quietly efficient.
