Karoo Retreat is one of those places that you arrive at, look around, and then wonder whether or not you are actually in Oudsthoorn. The grounds are absolutely stunning and so well maintained. The staff are all friendly, kind and super helpful. The room was was really nice. It's spacious, neat, tidy and has everything that you would need for a comfortable stay. I'm not sure if this is the norm or if it was only the case while we stayed there, but the water pressure in the shower was extremely low and even the taps opened to their fullest, it was still only a very light trickle of water. Other than that, we loved our stay there and will definitely stay at Karoo Retreat again in the future!

The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, creating a comfortable environment. We also appreciated the safe and secure parking, which gave us peace of mind. Overall, these aspects made our stay enjoyable.

Although this is a beautiful place to stay, a few details were disappointing. Only instant 3-in-1 coffee sachets are provided, with no milk, which feels below the expected standard. The tap water isn’t suitable for drinking, yet no complimentary bottled water is offered—only overpriced bottles for purchase. These concerns have been raised by previous guests, but nothing seems to have changed. .

My partner and I recently enjoyed a delightful stay at Karoo Retreat Oudttshoorn, and we can’t praise it enough! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and hospitality by our wonderful host, Justin The room we stayed in was simply stunning. Tastefully decorated with a keen eye for detail, it provided a perfect blend of elegance and comfort. Every corner reflected a thoughtful design that made our retreat feel special. We highly recommend Karoo Retreat to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in Oudtshoorn. The combination of beautiful accommodations, stunning views, and the genuine hospitality of Justin made for a truly memorable stay. We can’t wait to return!

No Restaurant on site Coldrink very expensive at shop on premises.

The room was very comfortable and well laid out for what we as a family needed. We had an exceptional stay, if they make a change on the layout with the basin and provide non-stick pots and pans, it would have received a full mark rating from us.

It is a self catering B&B, but the pots and pans that are provided are not non-stick, so it made making supper and cleaning up afterwards very difficult. Also the basin was positioned in a way that it made it difficult to doing the washing up.

It was secure and close to town amenities. It was tranquil and peaceful. The two baby springbok rescues were so cute! The room was modern decor with lovely natural highlights. The kitchen well appointed. I loved that you could see the birds right out of the bedroom window.

The room was a two level with the toilet on the main floor. Don’t know how we missed that in booking. That wouldn’t have been much of a problem but walking on the stairs was not quiet…and you could hear your neighbours walk on theirs too! (Heavier footed people). The add says bbq and there is one available but they do not supply the charcoal. This was disappointing for us as it is hard to carry around charcoal, started, matches in addition to everything else.

Friendly and very helpful staff. Units are being cleaned everyday. Nice Aircon, the pool looks amazing it was just unfortunately too cool to swim.

The 2nd day's towels were not of great quality. The shower head is very low (makes it very difficult to wash hair) and the toilet is very low as it was built for very short people. The bathroom is modern but everything is wet after you're done showering. Can definitely recommend that they can get steak knives for the rooms.

We love the venue and except for one night when it was fully booked, we have always spent our overights there for the last few years. Nelda and her staff have been excellent and particularly helpfull, going out of her way to accommodate us. I have recommended Karoo Retreat to a number of our family and friends who are travelling in that direction. I feel safe there and the rooms have always been clean and well prepared with good bedding.

Undercover parking would be nice (a sopping wet motorcycle one winters morning!) but not essential. There is really nothing I did not like.

Very clean and tidy little flat, in a great location with secure parking. Has everything you need. The property manager was super friendly and professional.

The water pressure in the shower was not great, and the temperature was quite inconsistent. We checked out very early in the morning and were unsure how to use the remote to open the gate, but yet leave the keys inside. (Perhaps I should have asked for the procedure when we checked in. :-) )

Units are very clean and comfortable. For a stop over perfect.

We initially booked 2 nights for 5 guests. I needed to change my booking to 1 night and add 3 more guests. With the expectation of the second night covering the value of the extra 3 guests. Unfortunately the property did not accept and we had to pay for the 3 guests. But Karoo retreat was atleast kind enough to allow us an earlier check in, when we did arrive in Oudtshoorn.

The staff there were super friendly and accommodating, the bed was very comfortable and the aircon made the room feel like a cool oasis in the karoo heat. The garden was gorgeous, lined with pomegranate bushes, olive trees and lavender.

The only reason I rated an 8/10 is because of the wifi and soundproofing. The staff warned us before hand about the noise which helped prepare us ...but you can hear everything that is happening in the adjacent rooms. The wifi kept kicking me off which made it difficult to use. I would suggest the Karoo retreat offers ear plugs to its future guests to help with the noise.
