This serene spot is situated on the main street close to restaurants and a range of distinctive architecture commencing around 1858. The pool was a crystal blue escape from the heat and well utilised by all the guests. I had a delicious healthy 'banting' dinner (as close to a salad as I could find) at the Swartburg Hotel accompanied by one of their huge range gins. The Sanctuary breakfast was tasty and served with a smile outside under umbrellas with views of the cypress trees. Not usually a great fan of yoghurt the yoghurt from the local dairy was an exceptional to my fruit and cereal. I was limited on time so didn't make it to the dairy but I did follow the owners advice. I went on an adventure into the lee-side foothills to the local fig farm. I was two weeks too early for the harvest but the farm is in a beautiful location and the restaurant serves a delicious fig tart plus there was a range of gifts and foodstuffs to purchase. The Avoova ostrich shell factory shop is just outside of town and there is an Atelier definitely worth visiting. I would recommend two nights as I could not see everything that I wanted.

Had a wonderful stay at the Sanctuary while doing an art workshop. Felt like home from home. Comfortable accommodation, friendly reception and interaction with staff and amazing breakfast every morning. Slept well in a spacious room which had a small bar fridge and coffee/tea station. Ideally situated to be able to walk to lovely places to eat out at in the evening. Will definitely be back to visit this lovely town and stay here again. Thank you Andre and the ladies for looking after me!

I had a wonderful stay at The Sanctuary in Prince Albert. Andre was an incredibly responsive and helpful host, making sure everything ran smoothly. The guesthouse is perfectly located on the main road yet remains peaceful and quiet. The pool and outside area was a highlight for me, with a shaded spot at the pool steps where I could sit and read my book in the water (great for the 35 degree+ days ☀️!). The room was clean, cosy, and comfortable, and the breakfast spread was simple yet delicious.

What a beautiful house: high ceilings, broekie-lace verandah, large bedrooms, extra-large bathrooms, great aircon and fans (very welcome in the heat), fabulous pool. Centrally located on the main street, within easy walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. The breakfasts were fantastic and our host was genial and staff were friendly and efficient. We loved our 3 days in this pretty town and couldn't have chosen a better location or a more comfortable and luxurious place to stay.
Room number 6 (upstairs, with a king bed), was spacious - a lovely space to relax. But I did find the bed very hard - I prefer a softer bed.

Our bedroom and bathroom were both lovely. Incredibly spacious, light and comfortable and a lot of thought and attention to detail was evident. The bathroom had a shaver/electric toothbrush socket and in the bedroom for example there was a dressing table with a mirror and hairdryer where you could actually plug it in and see what you were doing, much appreciated and quite rare! Breakfast was generous and delicious and the pool and sitting area outside was very pretty and welcome as we had hot weather whilst we were there. Very good tips and advice from the host about places to visit and where to eat etc. I highly recommend The Sanctuary. Thank you Andre.
The only negative really was the front bedrooms (we were in one) had a bit of traffic noise from the main road early in the morning, so if this would bother you I recommend asking for a room set back from the street.

We had a small concern with the room that was immediately attended to, really appreciate that. The house and decor is gorgeous and a fantastic host. The pool was a lifesaver in mid summer. The breakfast was great with home made granola which they really should sell!). Overall a lovely stay and would recommend.
Being a guest house, with other people oom home you are aware of other people’s coming and going etc.

The Sanctuary lives up to its name. After a bad experience at another guesthouse, we were welcomed by Andre with open arms. Andre was very kind and did everything possible to ensure we enjoyed our stay in Prince Albert. The full English breakfast was extraordinary & the best we have had during our trip in South Africa. Apart from the English breakfast they also provided us yoghurt & fruits, some homemade granola and homegrown mangos which were very tasteful! If you would like to make a stop in Prince Albert, don't hesitate to book your stay at the Sanctuary!

Andre and Lisa are super hosts and really welcomed us into their house. They have totally renovated The Sanctuary in the past couple of years - the result is uplifting. Rooms are large with excellent beds and bathrooms, air conditioning, fridges. There are a plethora of dining options in pretty Prince Albert, we spent the evening walking up the high street, popping into art galleries, having a glass of wine in the Cookery School before dinner. Great sleep followed by a gourmet breakfast incorporating local (actually home grown papaya juice - seasonal I guess), yoghurt, home made muesli, muffins, fruit, and a full fried breakfast with local produce. Oh and they have a large pool and car parking. A highly recommended place in which to stay. Thanks again.
