The hotel was absolutely fantastic, a beautiful hotel with charming characteristics. We were greeted by a lovely lady who was really friendly and helpful after walking our shortest day of 4 hours on the Camino Trail in torrential rain and she even offered to order takeaway for us. The entrance way was welcoming with a mix of wood and stone and it had a warm cosy feel. The room had everything in it that you needed with one of the best showers I’ve come across and such comfy beds. Breakfast was in a beautiful room with a gorgeous terrace overlooking the sea.

Hotel Itxas Gain overlooks the Cantabrico Sea. Centrally located close to everything in this lovely Basque fishing village only a daytrip to Donostia-San Sebastian. The staff were wonderfully hospitable and we discovered many local treasures with their help. The 'streetside grilled fish' and local wine gives this area such a great reputation. Lots of cute bars with fresh pinchos (Basque tapas) – Txakoli are fun to order at pintxos bars which is poured high above the glass. We had the great fortune to visit the wooden maritime themed San Salvador Church during choir practice and enjoyed hearing their complex choral arrangements sung in the Basque language. We loved being able to walk along the port and see all the fishing boats bring their fresh catch ashore – straight to the restaurants. Such a happy-energy town!

Parking was a little tricky. Street parking is available but not adjacent. We parked up the steep mountain a few blocks away. Fortunately, it was indoor and secure and the town features escalators up to the garage. What a brilliant invention. If the parking was closer, we'd give Hotel Itxas Gain a 10!

We are a retired couple. We spend a lot of our holidays driving in France. This was our first venture into Northern Spain. Getaria was a recommended stop between Bilbao and San Sebastian, In retrospect Getaria was a highlight. Having breakfast on that superb terrace, with top class ingredients and the premier view on the entire coast was brilliant

Why spoil perfection?

Perfect family-run hotel in a nice old building. Easy to find for travellers who pick Getaria on a whim, and directly next to public transport options. The terrace is a major plus here--it's closed late at night but has spectacular views, good breakfast options, and a self-service drink bar if you're looking for a quieter evening than in the Tabernas.

Room was a bit smaller than expected but for two nights was adequate. There was no fridge or kettle in the room which was inconvenient for storing medication Parking was also a problem but September is a month where you can find on street parking.

Very welcoming, friendly and helpful young woman on reception incl. info on parking the car. Room clean, comfy and with character, unlike hotel chains👍🏼 Location - All within spitting distance from village‘s numerous bars and restaurants, and Balenciaga Museum.

For aircon fans: It was unusually hot for April (!) and there was no aircon, as normally not even that hot in summer. Terrace (with fab view), breakfast room and mini-garden all very simple.

The hotel was well located in this interesting town , 40 minutes from San Sebastián by bus. We took advantage of the private parking on offer and used public transport during our stay here. The excellent staff were a bonus. They couldn’t do enough to help. Breakfast in the garden balcony overlooking the beach was amazing, as was the breakfast itself. The local bars and restaurants were bustling hubs of people enjoying themselves all day. No complaints at all.

Perfect location once you learn the unloading and parking process. Nice staff, clean rooms. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the beach was wonderful.

Our shower had no door at all, so I was worried about getting the floor wet around the shower. Just a personal preference, really.

Lovely place! Great location! And Giorgina, at the front desk, was so helpful, so attentive to details and logistics. I felt like she took extra care in making sure I made all the connections I needed to make.
