The whole setting is just fabulous. It is worth staying a night as you get to really explore the gardens. The staff was very accommodating to us, organising a special tour. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious

The lunch and dinner options were a bit boring. The Lunuganga salad could have been something fabulous considering all the fantastic leaves Sri Lanka has on offer but instead it was a plain, standard few lettuce leaves with a few flower petals. There is hardly any options for vegans which one of our guests is.

I cannot write an objective review for the place since from me this was like a pilgrimage because I am just a huge fan of Geoffrey Bawa. Just being there was a dream come true! The staff is exceptional, very thoughtful and well mannered. The small touches like the happy hour where they serve home infused gin and tonic ( Bawa’s favourite) by the Lunuganga is an experience in itself. The sense was of history , his whimsical sense of design , his attention to detail is a learning in itself.. What a legacy !

Very charming and peaceful place with exceptional service and attention to the details. - authentic interiors, clean, with an interesting book about Jeoffrey Bawa in each room - good coffee and tea selection in room - high quality food during the breakfast and dinner, the prices in restaurant are ok - the best service in Sri Lanka, especially in restaurant

The payment policy isn’t transparent. On booking it’s mentioned that it will be charged in advance, but actually in need to pay at the hotel. So be attentive with your card

Lunuganga is exceptionally relaxing, peaceful and visually beautiful. Bawa’s style and vision has been perfectly preserved and is something to be seen. The staff were so wonderful, calm and helpful - a perfect alignment with the property itself. The tour of the property allowed us to see the incredible design and thought put into each dwelling, including the gardens. We were lucky enough to stay in the Gate House, which was ideally located. We had a swim in the pool which was so serene and private. Some staff have been working here for 15+ years making them amazing custodians of the property. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed all meals at the main house, allowing us time and space to wander around, swim, read and take it all in. This is a truly special place and a must visit.

I was captivated by its secluded location and natural beauty. The architecture, designed by Geoffrey Bawa, beautifully harmonizes with the lush surroundings, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff who made us feel right at home.

While my overall stay was delightful, I did find our rooms and bathrooms to be on the smaller side. However, these minor points did not detract from the magical charm of the estate.

The garden environment on the river, friendly and helpful staff, great food, interesting and stunning architecture with many of the Geoffrey Bawa original furnishings. Gorgeous swimming pool?!

The room was lacking conveniences of working electric outlets for charging personal technology, a place to plug in a hairdryer, mirror in the bedroom, and a closet large enough to hang the clothes for 2 people.

Lunuganga is absolutely beautiful, and the staff make the experience better than you could ever imagine. The food is really fantastic and bonus services like room service and late breakfasts made for an amazing stay. I cannot stress enough how incredible this place is - forget about the high price for Sri Lanka, it is worth every penny! Breakfast is included and it is a HUGE breakfast probably normally worth $30, so this is a great addition. The rooms were so comfortable, excellent beds, stunning interior design (obviously the architecture is incredible). The gardens are so lush and green, it's a real treat to walk around them. The tours are definitely worth it - you learn a lot. We stayed in the "Guest Suite" room in the de Silva house, and I hope to stay again it was perfect. I've included pictures of breakfast, but not lunch, which was Sri Lankan curry (but they have other options).

When we got the tuk tuk from the hotel to the Bentota train station on our final day, the implication was that it was paid for as part of the accomodation service, in my view, because the tuk tuk driver said he worked at Lunuganga and because money was never discussed upfront (I've never had a tuk tuk driver not want to confirm a price with me before starting the journey), but then when we arrived at the station the driver asked for a surprisingly steep fee considering the short journey. As such I felt uncomfortable with the lack of clarity upfront and felt pressured to pay this high fee no matter what because we were already at the station. I feel that maybe the driver was just taking a chance on charging us for what the hotel understood to be paid for already...

All the staff are educated on the historical background of the hotel, respected architect Bawa, and are proud to do their respective jobs!

About the food, I don't think it is bad. The hotel is indeed the most impressive in Sri Lanka. However, it was not the best meal in Sri Lanka. The portions were a bit much for us. A little less and more variety of flavors in each dish would make it more enjoyable for a few nights.

It’s absolutely stunning. The house is gorgeous, the view, the gardens, the architecture. You feel privileged to be able to stay in a place like this. The restaurant is brilliant. Menu is short and simple and everything is absolutely delicious and super fresh. The staff is very helpful and welcoming, always proactive.

Kids are welcome but not so welcome. We had a lot of back and forth to organise beds for toddlers… they could be a little more flexible. The swimming pool could have more shade.
