This was a fantastic stay on the edge of the national park The staff are absolutely outstanding and always ready to help, engage and enhance your stay. We really couldn't ask for more. The location near the lake is lovely, nice breeze comes in each evening to cool things off. We even saw a crocodile from the edge!

We liked everything that we experienced, but if we were going to back to the area, we might consider a place with a pool, as it got pretty hot sometimes and it would have been lovely to have somewhere to cool off.

The best stay we had in our entire trip around Sri Lanka! Just can’t recommend it enough! Very clean room, big clean bathroom with hot shower and an amazing yard with lake view. We also enjoyed a delicious dinner and breakfast, some of the best meals we had. Lovely host and very attentive with our needs. Hardworking staff - the results are impeccable. They also arranged a wonderful safari trip, we would like to also thank Indika for making sure we have an amazing experience! Thank you Saffron Lake Yala! 🥰

It’s not a downside, we were in the middle of the nature so for us it’s understandable, but there are insects and lizards (big and small) so for people with phobias it might not be a good idea 😅

It has a great location, on the lake shore and close to the national park entrance. The villas are comfortable, modest, and tranquil, especially in the afternoon. The highlight was the staff, who were very kind and welcoming. The food was great, and the chef helped to create special dishes for the small kids. The lake boat ride during the sunset was very nice.

The room bath could have been cleaner. On the first night, we had many ants in the room, which the staff solved by applying an extra spray after we asked for it.

Spacious room with balcony to have meals in private. Very hearty breakfast, beautifully presented. The only place that serves bacon and eggs instead of the usual frankfurters.

The stay was spoiled by an issue with accommodation for our driver. Apparently, free accommodation for drivers is only provided with direct bookings, and not through Booking.com which charges a 20% fee for the bookings. This should be made clear when enquiries are made.

Cottage accommodation is very spacious, nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. The garden and lakeside setting are picturesque. Extensive low level path lighting enhances the general atmosphere. Unfortunately, we arrived quite late after a long safari at Yala NP and could not take full advantage of the facilities offered. The manager and kitchen staff prepared dinner for us even though the kitchen was clearly closing up. Both dinner and breakfast were tasty. A minor water problem in the bathroom was immediately attended to and fixed. We regret we could not have stayed longer.

Site is a little remote, but property is self-contained and so this is not a major problem.

Property is absolutely clean and bathroom is spotless. Breakfast was great. The lake behind the property was so beautiful in the morning with numerous birds either having a bath or catching fish. If you are a birdlover, do not look for another. I made an error by booking for a day instead of the following day via booking.com. I panicked when realised the mistake but Manager Danushka (hope I got his name correct) was kind enough to provide me with a room and remove my actual booking. So, not out of pocket. If not for him, I would have been strandard almost around midnight that day. Overall, it is great property. Didn't expect such a quality in that part of the country

Little away from the town which is not an issue if you have a vehicle but other facilities more than outweigh this disadvantage

There isn’t much around but sometimes this is nice to be away from all the hustle & bustle

Great place in Lake Yala, far from city center. It feels like you are staying in the middle of the savanna. There are few huts in the complex so it's really quiet, low light pollution so stargazing at night is an option. There is a gate you can use to access Yala lake to see buffalos and walks at sunset, really cool. There were some friendly guardian dogs around and the staff was very nice, always available 24x7.

7km from city center means you need to take a tuktuk back and forth to go to city center but they are cheap and staff arranges that for you when needed. Quietness pays off. Wifi coverage is low, I recommend getting a prepaid SIM card to move around Tissa in general (4€)

We stayed as a couple at Saffron Lake Yala for 3 nights. The facilities were excellent - we stayed in one of the villas and it was spotlessly clean, with great finishings/facilities - spacious, comfortable bed, fan and A/C, hot water (not warm, hot!) and good pressure. There is no dining room area as such, food is served to you on the terrace of your villa or room. Staff, in particular the manager Roshan, were very friendly and helpful - arranging tuk tuks, travel advice, preparing food, hot drinks, etc. We also arranged our full-day safari to Yala National Park through the hotel (with a driver/guide called Ruwan @ Wild Angle Sri Lanka) - which was fantastic and again competitively priced. Location of the hotel was beautiful and peaceful, right on the lakeside, which you can wander along to birdwatch/see the sunset. Is not centrally located - is a long walk or 20min tuk tuk (1000LKR) from the centre of Tissa, but safari and taxi can pick up/drop off directly at the hotel.

Choice of food was a bit limited, but the food there was was delicious and reasonably priced. Breakfast and dinner are well catered for, if you happen to be at the hotel through the day rather than on safari probably worth a venture into Tissa for lunch.
