This place ticked all the boxes for what I required, simple, quiet, chilled and relaxing for two weeks. Super helpful staff, Ciprian, John and Selma cannot do enough for you. What do you need? Local advice? (they really do know it all) Assistance changing money? (at a favourable rate) Where to buy a bottle of whiskey at short notice? (it’s not obvious and there is no bar) Tour information? (obvious but well done) A bit of a chat and an informal Swahili lesson (because why not?) Transportation: Just ask (certainly to anywhere on the island of Unguja and probably far beyond) Rooms: Basic, well airconed, spotless, with a safe and fridge (not a minibar) all of the housekeeping staff are very quiet and shy but wonderful. Restaurant: Simple and clean (you can look into their kitchen if you are quick or simply ask) a satisfying breakfast, decent lunch and good supper (do try anything with octopus!) There is no bar. Cost: Come on! You are in Zanzibar, it’s cheaper than anything you spend at home. Anyone that complains about the prices at Zanoceanique would be better off not going on holiday. Location: Matemwe is not a metropolis. It is barely a village, but it has what you need, even an ATM opening soon! Maybe some would want more, but you cannot please everyone. Walk one minute to the beach, turn left or right and you have restaurants and bars a plenty, you’ll find all the entertainment you need. This is not a five-star establishment like Hyatt, Ritz or Mount Nelson, it is a simple family run place that punches above its weight and does it very well. An observation: I see lots of complaints about the beds being too hard. My sleeping App show’s I had nothing but prolonged deep sleeps that were almost snoring and apnoea free. My body, such as it is, feels rejuvenated and my mind blissful. The beds are fine people, you just have bad backs, no hotel can cure that.

Hmmmm, maybe a better brand of coffee, possibly an availability of sparkling water, a chocolate on your pillow at night? I'm kinda struggling to find something wrong or that I didn't like.

Spacious clean rooms, nicely equipped with mini fridge, safe, AC, fan & balcony w sea view. Proximity to beach, very friendly staff. Room gets cleaned daily and staff sprays mosquito spray - didn’t have any problems with mosquitos throughout my stay. Best wifi I had in zanzi so far.

restaurant a little pricey compared to the other restaurants around, so only used it for dinner because I was travelling alone and didn’t want to walk in the dark at night. not so many local dishes. But restaurant staff are amazing! Sadly on my last day the pool was closed for maintenance. Other than that a great hotel!

Zanoceanique is a beautiful hotel in the humble village of Matemwe. Visiting in the low season meant we basically had the entire hotel to ourselves - a true “The Shining” experience, minus the axe. The garden, pool and general look of the hotel is exceptional, and the staff were at our every beck and call. Juma was extremely helpful with all our requests, the breakfast was excellent and the rooms were cleaned everyday. We felt like royalty

This hotel is a very good choice if one would like a place without luxurious facilities and buffet table. Everyting was very clean, the bed a bit hard but confortable. Their restaurant was very good, but a bit more expensive than a nearby restaurant in the village which was very good as well. They don't serve alcohol but there is a liquor shop not far away. The beach was very nice and perfect for kids. There weren't too many beacboys either.

You feel like at home! It is a real home! The breakfast and the quality of all foods from the hotel restaurant is on the highest. The room and all the facilities (nice relaxing places, sunbeds. The shower outside of the room under the palm trees is superb with a real wellness feeling experience. The pool was crystal-clear and the temperature was amazing. The garden well maintained and got umbrella. The staff is unbelievable kind and professional. The beach just 1 minute walk from the hotel . The reef-tour(which is complementary) where you could meet the sea animals was very interesting! The hotel offer free village tour for long stay guest as my friend was there for a week.

Everything was ok

Very nice location 2 minutes walk from the beach and some rooms have a sea view. We had a problem with our AC and the staff were very helpful moving us to a different room. Generous buffet breakfast with hot and cold food . Quiet at night

Smoking permitted in the breakfast area which was really horrible as we were unlucky to be there with a big group who smoked . It would be much better with a separate area for smokers

A bit outdated but lots of space. We got a room upgrade with living room + bedroom which is nice for coworking. Staffs are nice.

Generator wasn’t on when the power is cut which sometimes you have power for 6-8 hours daily.

Friendly and welcoming staff, always available in case you beed any help. The proximity to the beach makes it a good place for relaxation. Suitable for children

The entire atmosphere was nice, close to the beautiful beach with white sand. It was on my taste. The staff was wellcoming, educated, helpful, professional. The room was big, the bed was confortable and also big, air conditionate, fridge, fan.

Small details: the door from the bathroom needs to be fixed.

We enjoyed our stay at Zanoceanique located three minutes away from the beach. The apartment provided three individual rooms with comfortable beds and clean washrooms. Staff was courteous and friendly trying their best to meet our requirements. Good job, guys!!! We will be back.
