It’s a beautiful hotel with some good sized rooms around a pool area and a lovely spot of white sandy beach. It’s a small hotel but there is plenty of space so getting beds by the pool or a hammock to watch the sunset was always easy. But small enough that if we sat at the beach we could see and hear our daughter playing in the pool. So it really is the perfect place to relax. The staff were really helpful and friendly and letting us check in early after an overnight flight was massively appreciated. The food, particularly dinner, was excellent and something to look forward to each night. The half board is a small 3-course menu with 2 or 3 options for each course and was excellent each night.

There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. But two things that people should be aware of are 1. This is a quiet family hotel, it definitely isn’t the place to come to if you’re after nightlife. The bar closed at 9:30 every night (although I think they would stay open later if it had people in it). And 2. The location is beautiful and very quiet but that means that there aren’t a huge choice of places within walking distance and the location on a peninsula means it takes a bit longer to drive anywhere than it would from, say, Paje. But it seemed a very small price to pay to us for such a lovely location.

The location, facilities and staff were excellent. We were made to feel right at home with personalized service throughout. We were also able to book all our tours through the hotel also, which made everything so convenient and easy. We also loved the peaceful beach vibes, which felt unique compared to many of the other beaches we visited. We would recommend adding on the daily dinner option as well - every meal was unique, delicious and beautifully presented. Many thanks to all the lovely staff at this resort! The most serene, peaceful and private resort with the bluest waters, most stunning sunsets, perfect shores and azure waves. Stayed in room C1 from the 25th till the 28th of March 2025. The food at Michamvi was beyond amazing and a key highlight. Every meal and drink ordered was prepared with excellence. The rooms are well equipped, clean and spacious with the most beautiful views. Tours and drivers are available at reception at a more reasonable price compare to other resorts. My partner and I had booked a sunset cruise departing from the resort itself including a spice and Stonetown tour with a driver taking us thereafter to the airport. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Shirley was extremely helpful and welcoming - ensuring that we were happy and ok at all times. A key highlight was our private and romantic supper which was set up on the beach with a bonfire the night before leaving. This is the perfect place to relax and detach while enjoying the best sunsets and views. Thanks Michamvi for a beautiful stay.

Situated in a beautiful and tranquil bay on the beach of Michamvi. A dreamy location for a relaxing holiday. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Breakfast and dinner was served in a different part of the resort each day. Quality of the dinner is excellent, breakfast a bit monotone. The rock restaurant is only a 10 minute commute from the hotel. The beach is beautiful, as well as the garden. The area felt very safe and well managed. The staff were excellent and very kind. Thank you Ally, Jolene, Daniel and Sylvester for making our stay joyful.

There is not much entertainment in the resort. The location is a bit far away from the main touristic sites, however it is perfect for couples and families looking to relax. Not many dining options around. Be aware of Kilili: a very big and loud ginger cat that makes alot of noise in the morning (he is a lovely resident)!!

One of the best places to stay in Michamvi area. Amazing staff, delicious food and very nice rooms. Shirley and her team were amazing in all times and met all our expectations regarding our stay. Early check in and late check out without extra cost, tour planning, airport transfer…A lot of activities to do in the area. We felt at home and we absolutely recomend this hotel.

We liked everything about the hotel. It’s just a pity that the beach is not suitable to swim or snorkel, though it’s quite long and nice to go for a walk.

- Lovely staff (really everyone!) all of them were helpful and warm; from the manager Shirley waiting for my arrival at 3am and carrying my suitcase, to the young waitress at breakfast remembering how I wanted my coffee, to the Spa masseuse (really exceptional!), bartender at the sunset bar always smiling and happy - everyone made a difference! - Human size hotel , not too many people, loved it! - Dinner venue changed every night so original and uncommon - Good sized room - The wardrobe pretty original and with enough hangers!! - Beach bag with towels in the room, very nice touch! - Water shoes provided on the beach is another add - I bought a bottle of water for lunch and didn’t finish it so the waitress brought it to the sunset bar so I could have it for later! Which hotels do that seriously??? Big thumbs up - The food ! I am picky and I can tell the food was very good there. - Same for the cocktails - No charge for late check in (my flight made me arrived at 3am!) other hotels do it so it was another nice gesture

- Rooms are tired (walls floor ceiling bathroom etc) - Soundproof is bad (especially with the hotel next door having loud music each night) - Bed not that comfortable - Breakfast hours not ideal (7.30 to 9.30) could be better to start at 7 (days I was on tour and was leaving at 8am I was rushing) and finish at 10 (people come here on vacation and don’t want to be on a schedule with an alarm clock on ;) - Need a serious refresh (but I was reading they are going to do a full renovation soon so that should get much better!) - Food prices not very cheap (for dinner) - $4 for an espresso…. :( more than in France - Transfers to the Rock or Paje quite pricy, but taxis are expensive as well so I guess this is Zanzibar?

Situated in a quiet area on a peaceful beach with beautiful gardens offering shade and privacy. The rooms are spacious, airy and spotless. The bed is very comfortable. The food is excellent and served in atmospheric surroundings. There are multiple loungers and deck chairs to choose from to relax. There are also paddle boards and kayaks available.The pool is very pleasant and refreshing. The place is very well managed and maintains high standards. Having stayed at three other places in Zanzibar, this was by far our favourite. Highly recommended.

This small resort with about 20 rooms was recently renovated. ( OBS the photos at Booking.com show the rooms before the renovation!) The rooms were nicely decorated and the beds comfortable. We were even offered the spacious bridal suite for our 9 days stay; it had a balcony with a view of the Michamvi bay. What a nice surprise! The food is good and varied, and the three course dinners (with both fish, meat and vegetarian options) are served at different locations every night. The female manager Shirley did an excellent job, and she was supported by a whole team of pleasant and service oriented staff members.

We did not like the fact that a big resort is being built close to this little gem of a hotel. It will keep me away from returning next year.

We have spent a fabulous week at Michamvi Sunset Bay and wished we could have stay longer. The resort was lovely -recently renovated, stunningly beautiful and just a perfect size to have enough space for all guests, while at the same time not feeling isolated. The rooms, restaurant, pool, all communal spaces and even the beach were all spotlessly clean. The beach bar is wonderful - the view is amazing and the drinks are great. Rooms are very spacious and are cleaned daily; all have private terraces or balconies - we have stayed in the ground floor which was very handy with 2 kids. We have opted for full board and have not regretted it for a moment, as the food was very tasty. Dinner is served in a different location every night. What really makes this place though is the staff- everyone was simply amazing, from the management through the reception, restaurant and bar staff, housekeeping, gardeners ... The whole team pampers the guests and makes them feel at home. Shirley cares about every detail and was always available to help with anything guests could need. Thank you for everything! Our stay at Michamvi sunset bay was absolutely fabulous. The whole team tried their very best to make the stay unforgettable and to feel at home. In the resort we enjoyed a very nice and calm atmosphere, with the best beach you can find in Sansibar. Every night the dinner was an absolutely romantic highlight - we even had dinner at the beach one day with a campfire and a beautiful sunset. If you are looking for a place far away from the main tourism to relax and enjoy the silence, this is the right place to be! We would always come back to Michamvi sunset bay any time!
