The period nature of the Hall really appealed to our more cultured approach to hotel accommodation. We have travelled extensively throughout Northern Europe and experience some very contemporary( modern) hotels but for sheer classic accommodation it was amongst our top three hotels.

We were disappointed at the availability of shower gels and shampoos and decided to purchase our own. The room TV’s need to updated to provide subtitles for the hard of hearing. The wardrobe in our room would not close properly and there were three missing hangers. The inner door was so heavy we had to jam it open with a chair to make things easier for us.The curtains were so heavy that it was a challenge closing them. We have been in hotels that have draw pulls that make closing easier. The bedroom door access could be by having electronic locks fitted with key cards like most hotels we have visited despite their age.

From start to finish first class service greeting excellent room absolutely gorgeous stayed in the cottages breakfast brilliant evening meal so yummy great choice of wines grounds absolutely beautiful did get lost in the mase bed so comfy lining crisp smelt amazing too thank you for our wonderful stay

Nothing at all to dislike just can't believe what some comments are made on line who are these people

The public rooms are relaxing and very comfortable. The hotel is such a nice place and the gardens too are pleasant. The bedroom was spacious with a super bed. Nice well equipped bathroom. Quiet hotel with professional friendly staff. Good spa / pool too. Above all the food was excellent. High quality and really tasty. Fantastic!

Amazing building and grounds — all the different rooms in the house are beautiful, and it was lovely going for a walk around the grounds in the evening. Our room was also huge and very nice. We loved our stay

The pool and saunas weren’t particularly nice; did the job but it wasn’t a relaxing space to hang out in. Some of the staff were very friendly but others seemed undertrained given how fancy the hotel is. There were lots of open laundry bags on the floor dotted around the halls / outside our room.

Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The grounds were well kept and beautiful scenery. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice and well cooked. Service was prompt and the staff very pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble. Cleaning staff were polite and friendly too. The grounds were great for enjoying a short walk or just sitting out in the sunshine

We were staying in the 'Head Gardener's' cottages and although the room was clean and had a nice outlook we were disappointed in how small it was in comparison to the rooms in the main building where we stayed 15 years ago at our son's wedding. This I feel should be reflected in the price but we paid quite a lot for this room, (same price as in the main building). Because of this I thought that it was not good value for money ( this is the only fault I have with the hotel)

We ate dinner at the hotel each evening. More convenient than driving to Alnwick. The food was excellent and reasonably priced in comfortable surroundings.

Wonderful country house hotel in a lovely location. Gardens are a pleasure to explore. Great facilities and choice of food. A choice of lounge areas to spend time. We would happily stay again if exploring the area. Being a couple of miles from the A1 makes this a great base for exploring Northumberland.

Everything as expected. I'm half Northumbrian on my Mother's side, she was born in Lowick in 1921. Your location great for exploring old haunts.

I can't fault the Hotel. However, the group of guests who checked in on Wednesday afternoon were / are a disgrace to humanity as far as I'm concerned. They were rude to other guests and especially rude to the staff. I was actually asked how long I intended sitting in the bar as they required to move tables together for their group! They may have classic cars but they didn't impress my wife or myself. I'd very much appreciate you forwarding my comments to the Hotel owner, Mr. Runciman I belive.

We had a warm and friendly welcome from one of the receptionists when we arrived and she took us to our room. On our first day we opted for an afternoon tea in the late afternoon which was set up in a very pleasant sitting room; the member of staff delivering the food did not explain what we were receiving and two of the sandwich fillings were very similar and not to our taste - the photo which advertises the afternoon tea looks better than what we received. However, dinner on the second evening (pan fried lemon sole and duck breast), respectively, was delicious and the sweets (poached pineapple/rhubarb and custard panacotta) were works of art and equally delicious.The breakfast selection available was extensive and more than ample to set guests up for the day. The grounds/gardens were nice to wander round and relax in and we were lucky with the weather so it was at lovely setting.

As above, the afternoon tea could have been better. My partner also found that the staff at breakfast were polite but not welcoming and on leaving the hotel there was no enquiry as to how we had enjoyed our stay.

The quiet location is perfect if you want a restful stay. In addition it is the perfect base to explore Northumberland. The food was top notch and the staff incredible. Having to travel globally for my work, I would rather this as one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and will definitely return in order to further explore the countryside.

Hard to single anything out as the location was flawless. Perhaps the fact that our stay was in the cottages rather than the main hotel, so on a wet and windy day it would affect you getting to the facilities.

The cottage we were in was spacious and clean with good facilities. It was really good to be able to park right outside. The breakfast was really good and we had a lot of choices.

If we wanted room service it was a £5 charge because we weren't in the main hotel which was not acceptable. The staff were pleasant and polite but few and far between and we had to look for them to access food and drink. The remote in our room didn't work very well so needs to be replaced. It would benefit from more comfortable outside seating. It was not very disability friendly as the main hall had stairs.
