Have stayed a number of times at this hotel and one of the stand-out things for me, beng coeliac, is the number of gluten free food options offered. This time the hotel was exceptionally quiet with few guests. We twice had dinner in the bar, with the main restaurant closed, and a restricted menu the first time, which wasn't so good. The staff are always very cheery and helpful.

All of our rooms had large bathrooms and good sized sleeping areas. Television service and reception was good and tea and coffee were provided. Reception staff, restaurant and bar staff were all great; helpful, friendly and determined to help us enjoy our stay. The chef cooked an extra tea time meal for my Grandson even though that service was not usually available on a Sunday. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant for one evening and found it very good; a wide choice of dishes and reasonably priced for a hotel. The bar was comfortable and we enjoyed our evenings there. Breakfast was extra to our room charge at £12 pp/day, there was plenty to eat with a buffet and hot meal service.

Our room was up 3 flights of stairs which we had to carry our luggage up. This hotel does not have a lift and would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems. It is quite an old hotel and some of the decor was showing signs of wear, lifting wallpaper and stained carpets. The windows are not double glazed and the wind does blow around the frames sometimes.

Friendly and helpful staff,, good acconnodation and well furnished with comfortable bed etc - I would certainly stay again.

The shower was small and difficult to use because there was no hand held sprey and one had to have the foor open to set the temperature, soaking the bathroom! Otherwise everything in the roon was excellent. The breakfast was good but the sceammbled egg was a bit dry and the sausage was not a butcher's one -nevertheless happy to try it again someime.

The staff went above and beyond expectations to ensure we were provided with a suitable room at very short notice, accommodating my mother’s requirements for an easily accessible shower. Without exception, every single member of staff was professional, friendly and extremely hospitable.

Friendly, helpful staff; great food (and intolerances respected as well as catered for); knowledgeable bar staff (they really know their whiskies!); very comfortable room. And they even laid on the weather, so I could really enjoy the wonderful walking and the birds. Thank-you.

Occasionally bath not cleaned, though it might not have been obvious that I'd used it.

Good location. Clean and comfortable room. Loved the guided walk through the forest. Helpful , friendly staff. Lovely food at evening dinner. Loved the daily information sheets at breakfast - nice touch if you're into birding (The Daily Chirp 😀)

We had breakfast on the first morning around 9.15/9.30 and by that time, some of the "hot food" wasn't! Earlier breakfast times on the other 2 days were better. Our bedroom was quite hot and had to use fan all through the night to keep air moving

The hotel was great, also the breakfast buffet had everything you could wish for. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and the bed and mattress was extremely comfortable.

Room 101 is probably not the quietest one, being just next to the staircase. But it was oriented to the back of the house, which saved us from the traffic noise on Main Street. So that was a bonus.

Reception staff were welcoming and helpful. The corridor to the nature room was a surprise find and very interesting.

The breakfast offering needs a little more thought. The tables that the cereals and toast et cetera were put on leaves no room to put your plate down to collect anything or lift the lid - this is just irritating. The room is very grand but has no atmosphere – a little background music playing Whilst people are chewing their bacon would be a less austere start to the day

We were upgraded, which is always nice. The longe bar area is really nice at night with the fire on. Dog friendly. Excellent breakfast. Location right in the centre of town.

There is a charge for having dogs, which I guess the hotel kind of tries to balance with a gift bag. However £25 per dog and we have two is quite punchy I would say. £15 feels more reasonable.

Have stayed at the hotel several times. One main benefit is that there are lots of gluten free options on the dinner menu and the food is always top class. The staff are very attentive and keen to make sure you are being looked after.

Some bottled water in the room would be a bonus, along with some GF biscuits. There's very little of a negative nature to write about this hotel. It is on the pricey side but on the whole worth the money.
