We had booked a "cell" room. The furnishings were excellent. The bathroom was large and well-equipped. Personally, I would have preferred a walk-in shower instead of a bathtub, but that's a matter of taste. The bed was very comfortable. We did not book breakfast as I found the price to be inappropriate. In addition to a quite high flat rate per person, an extra charge was applied for any hot dishes (such as scrambled eggs, etc.).Otherwise, the staff was very nice and accommodating.

Unfortunately, I wasn't aware that this historic building apparently doesn't have windows that can be opened. As a result, ventilation is limited, and fresh air at night can only be accessed through the room door. After showering, the entire room has very high humidity, which isn't managed well by the air conditioning. Personally, I found the stay in the cell room quite amusing, but I would prefer a longer stay in a room with windows that can be opened. Additionally, it's important to note that the cell rooms open directly onto the hallway, meaning any noise from the hallway can be heard clearly. This didn't particularly bother us and didn't spoil our stay, but it's good to be aware of.

Location was great Staff were helpful and friendly Nice room Food was excellent both breakfast and dinner Toiletries in the bathroom were lovely

The bed seemed small. Not sure but think it was a double but given the size of the room, they could have had a king or super king size. I personally didn't find the mattress comfortable. Surprised there wasn't complimentary body lotion in the bathroom along side the hand wash, shower gel etc. No better service/room than other excellent hotels but the cost was much higher. For example £34 per night to park 1 car?! That's rather extortionate.

The staff were really great as I was unwell with mini STROKES and were very sympathetic and kind and gave me the best care y could ask for.and great to chat to her and more concerned than any Helth Professions in UK where now iv come to New York for treatment . Fighting 9 months missing out on medication ? So I never go to my GO surgery I come here insted like my a hotel in London got me Weller after 🏥🏪 last year! It was very well done the PRISON CELL building all carpeted balcony’s and the restraunt below . An amazing experience. And one staff showed me round and my room Was fab far better than a hospital prison I was in 15 weeks last year. Most Luxury

Great entrance and reception and tables and chairs to sit at . Every thing of handy reach and lifts . And nice green grounds outside . And superb entrants car park and more so right next to all shopping precedent in central Oxford

I wanted a room which provided a luxury stay but was authentic in terns if representing the original prison building which us why I selected a luxury cell room. Thus provided luxury and authenticity. It was great walking down the original prison walk ways to access thd room with the original cell door. Waking up to see the sky out of the original window allowed me to have a glimpse of what it would once have been like whilst still having the luxury of a walk in shower and roll top bath

Although the bad wax open at 2pm it was not possible to get a light lunch or snack whilst waiting for the room to be ready.

The hotel has kept many of the original prison features, with the old cells transformed into stylish and comfortable rooms. The historic architecture, from the iron walkways to the exposed brickwork, adds plenty of character while still feeling modern and welcoming. The staff were friendly, professional, and always happy to help. From check-in to check-out, they made sure we had everything we needed and offered great local recommendations. The hotel’s bar and restaurant also had a great atmosphere, with a good selection of food and drinks.

It’s quite pricey but if you’re looking for somewhere a little different to stay in Oxford, Malmaison is definitely worth considering.

Have stayed here before and took the upgrade room deal this time , which led to a very nice room with sitting area . Enjoyed it very much . Had room service one night and food was delicious. Reception staff charming .

Lift out of order in the side wing. A bit of an effort lugging the luggage to the room. It was also not working last time we stayed . Housekeeping did not come during our 2 night stay - we did have «do not disturb » on for a lie-in the first morning, but were then out and about for a good 4 hours in the day, but room was not made up . We lived with it as short -stay.

The whole experience was great from start to finish, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the building, telling us about the history and local area and then there's the building itself. They have done just enough to make it into a really good hotel while keeping original features and fixtures, the whole atmosphere about the place is incredible. Definitely worth a visit completely unique.

Our room had a continuous noise, not dissimilar to white noise. Wasn't a problem for us but if you're a person who needs complete silence to sleep, take some ear plugs. Wasn't over powering but just there.

What an amazing repurposing of an old prison! The building and grounds were fantastic! Such a novel idea.. and we really loved staying here. We stayed in the Annex. The bed was really comfortable & quiet! And we had a really lovely view out onto the 'exercise yard'; also giving us a great view across the yard of the main prison block. The Annex room in the corrections building (as reported on other reviews here) WAS very cold. But we put the heater on and it did eventually warm up to a comfortable level. (I personally HATE stiflingly hot rooms, so it suited me fine) There were a couple of tiny things with the room - the bath panel was loose/had obviously been damaged some point in the past. And one of the UHT milks provided had gone bad, so my tea had to be poured down the sink one occasion. So perhaps those just need to be checked/changed regularly, even if they've not been used. Took us a while to figure out the shower too! Haha.. but we got there in the end. ;o) And we did wonder if the room had been prepped for just one guest (instead of two) as there was only one shower cap and vanity kit provided. And (a common thing I find with lots of hotels!), the lighting and mirrors setup was not great for doing make-up in. So maybe some kind of vanity mirror would be nice. But again, just a small thing really. The staff were brilliant - very friendly, welcoming and helpful.. so, top marks for the staff. And the breakfast was all freshly cooked and clearly good quality ingredients. The proximity to the city centre was perfect. And overall, we really enjoyed our stay. And would definitely stay again ♥️

Our stay at the Malmaison was fantastic. The only downside was that we didn't have long enough to enjoy it! Due to my husbands last-minute work commitments, it meant that we arrived quite late, so we had to check in & then run straight out to catch our show at the New Theatre. On our return we were shown to our room - which was lovely 😍 then we went to the bar for a couple of much needed drinks 🍸 We had a great night's sleep but had to rise early & miss breakfast because we had to get back. We want to return to enjoy the hotel more - it really is a fascinating experience! & I want to sample their food next time. Oxford also looks lovely - it would be great to see it in the daylight 😀

Location of hotel is excellent as is in the heart of Oxford city. The hotel is lovely and staying in an old converted prison works perfectly as has that quirky touch. We upgraded our room which was lovely and the walk in shower was huge. The downstairs bar has a great selection of drinks and staff are very friendly. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice.

Unfortunately the air conditioning in our room did not work so the room was uncomfortably warm on the first night - I mentioned it to reception and they were great as when we returned to our room after a day out the next afternoon they had plugged in a nice portable air conditioner which did the job.
