We booked because we were invited to a wedding in Oxford, however my husband was unable to attend. On my own, l found the inn easily and the hosts were really helpful and friendly on my arrival and throughout the stay. The location was ideal , pretty, quiet and felt safe, while only a short walk to the stop for frequent buses to the centre. I enjoyed my breakfast and found the accomodation relaxing, clean and comfortable with a generous supply of milk and tea in the room. There was no noise from the bar in the late evening. I sadly missed the special live music session on the Sunday afternoon and was unable to try the evening meals in the restaurant . I enjoyed watching the swifts nesting under the eaves the house next door and having a beer in the garden.

Some of the communal spaces could be freshened up.

We had the pleasure of spending one night at this property, and from the very moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and smiling owner, which immediately created a pleasant atmosphere. Both the room and the bathroom were spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated in soft, neutral tones. The house is small and intimate, which contributes to a peaceful and private stay. The guest rooms are located on the upper floor, while the ground floor houses a pub where breakfast is served in the morning. We stayed from Sunday to Monday and, despite the presence of the pub, experienced no disturbances whatsoever. In fact, the bar was closed from 6:00 PM, yet the owner kindly prepared drinks for us, demonstrating a level of personal attention rarely found in larger hotels. Breakfast was offered in five or six different options; the one we chose was delicious and thoughtfully presented. We can wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone who values hospitality, cleanliness, and a cozy, intimate atmosphere.

The hotel is a short taxi/uber ride into the centre of Oxford. There was parking outside, so you could leave your car there while you explored the area. We had a room out the back and over looking the garden bar, which luckily was quiet the night we were there. Bed comfy and everything nice and clean. The staff were great and the food was delicious.

The room was dark because it had trees quite close (nice to look through), made more dark as the walls were mid grey and floors and curtains dark grey. Would have been easy to make brighter with white walls.

Beautiful building . Accommodation was clean and warm. The food was delicious and well presented. BREAKFAST WAS OUTSTANDING. Our host that morning could not do enough for us, unable to remember his name . His name begins with a B. Sounds like Birken. He is a human dynamo. Brilliant person. Well done, Kenny. He greeted us and made us welcome. Good luck with your new job.

If you are "IRISH". There is no welcome on the mat. Obvious bad vibes coming from certain staff ( "she" was serving 5.30pm dinners ), but not all staff, thank goodness. The room was lovely until you opened the window.. The room was above the kitchen. Noisy extractor fans booming and spouting smells from busy kitchen and heating system . The bins were also below our window. The beer garden was also below the window. It's OK at this time of year. The windows are metal, singal pane, in keeping with its heritage. I don't think from May onwards you would get an early night due to noise from the beer garden and kitchen. It was no coincidence that we were allocated THAT room.!! Bare minimal condiments left in the room. TV a joke. Big TIP. Avoid room 5 or 4 .

A great pub in a very good location for popping into Oxford on the bus, with bus stops about an 8 minute walk away. We had a very good breakfast on two mornings an equally good meal in the restaurant one evening. Also there's parking space for several cars, which is a very big plus point as parking is limited nearby.

The pub is in old Headington, where the buildings are fab looking as they are quite an age, but that means they have single glazed windows - so if you're a light sleeper like me, take ear plugs.

Quiet, out of the way but near the university we were visiting. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and they an accommodated us for dinner when well booked for valentines. Dinner and breakfast menus had amazing choice. Really helpful staff who helped advise on public transport routes. Lovely country village inn style place tucked away not far from all amenities of busy high street. Perfect place to stay away from the “no car” city, but have access to visit by nearby park and ride or bus services. Very good value. Decor of room and bathroom was lovely. I’d visit again.

We loved this hotel it’s beautiful. Tastefully decorated in relaxing colours and with respect to its history , classy yet comfy. That’s a nice balance. Katie the owner is great I wish her all the success she deserves. The restaurant is superb our meal was delicious. Truly great chefs and all the staff seemed happy. A lovely garden with acers and a magnificent mature ash so good to see it thriving. Altogether a lovely stay a real pleasure. Not too many rooms so lovely and quiet. Gorgeous fittings and oak doors so lovely and quiet. We will definitely be back if we have the opportunity to visit Oxford again or stop on route to the West Country for a rest.

Lovely stay at very friendly pub well located for local amenities and only short cab/bus ride from oxford centre. Rooms clean, spacious and well thought out. Breakfast was great, variety of options. Staff really friendly.

Minor thing, but as it was quite a warm weekend it would have been better if a larger pedestal fan was offered (we ended up balancing the small fan provided on a chair and book) but we appreciated that there was a fan in the first place.

As we booked to visit our new granddaughter in the nearby hospital, the location was excellent for this purpose. The area around still has a 'village' feel about it with lots of local amenities. Lovely pub with good food. Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly. Had the weather been better, the beer garden looked great.

Although the cooked breakfast was delicious, I was surprised no fruit juice, cereal or toast was on offer to accompany it.

The staff were friendly and very helpful with taxis. The room was clean and comfortable. The Black Boy is an easy bus ride from the centre of Oxford from the bus stop on the main road costing just £2. Don’t miss the Malmaison Hotel converted prison where you can see what the cells were like. Open to the public without staying at the hotel (as in the photo)

Breakfast was good with lots of choice but there could have been a ‘and’ for yogurt / fruit / granola plus English breakfast / eggs etc rather than an ‘or’. Fresh orange juice would also have been good
