We travelled from Belfast, on our way to a wedding at nearby North Cadbury Court for the weekend. There was a group of 6 of us, with three separate rooms. We were greeted with great hospitality from the staff and we had dinner that evening. I had the fish and chips, which was AMAZING! The rooms are so big, and everything is spotlessly clean. Breakfast was also great the next morning. We were all really impressed with The Red Lion.

I couldn't fault anything at all. There is clearly a lot of heart and soul that have gone in to making the Red Lion a success, and it shows!

The Red Lion was everything you could ask for, the room was really spacious, clean, nicely decorated, comfy huge bed, the ensuite was again nicely done, gorgeous toiletries, the pub itself had a roaring fire, warm and welcoming, food was good BUT there was a problem with the heating, even though the radiator was turned up high, the room was never cosy warm (we needed the rug on the bed) and the water in the shower (in the morning) wasn't warm enough to wash hair, i would have got too cold. Shame. Overwise it was perfect and would highly recommend.

The room was very clean, tastefully decorated and with a very comfortable bed. They went beyond the norm with ground coffee and cafetière and a jar full of biscuits in the room. The bathroom had a wonderful walk in shower and giant fluffy white towels. The location is very peaceful with ample parking. The lunchtime snacks were imaginative and delicious. With a focus on local ingredients, dinner was wonderful, especially the Bruton Brie which was the creamiest Brie I have ever tasted. They have a very nice selection of wines, most of which are available by the glass. Breakfast was also a treat. They stew their own prunes with cinnamon, start anise, bay leaves and tea bags which shows the level of imagination and effort they put in to make the Red Lion special. All the staff were extremely friendly and professional.

Excellently appointed, huge and new room upstairs in the Barn building was a surprise on arrival and superbly comfortable and quiet over Christmas, Staff very welcoming and the late night burger and fries we grabbed actually stood out as excellent. Previous very good dining experience at the Red Lion now backed up with an excellent stay. Small touches like real coffee and a cafetiere do make a difference

More than two biscuits in the jar.....and that is all I can ask to improve!

Rooms and location

Overall a wonderful experience. The rooms and gen location exceptional and fantastic value for Money. One small point that could be improved is The check in process. The person who greeted us at the propery behaved as if it were a chore checking us in. They didn’t tell us that we had to order the breakfast the following morning so we got up and there was no one to be seen. Perhaps this could be added to the information in the room.

We were a bit taken aback when we arrived at just after 5pm to find the pub closed until 6pm and a note on the door saying for guests booking in to call the following number, which could not be connected! however, we drove round the area for a while, which was nice and eventually booked in to a warm friendly pub.

Lovely pub in the middle of nowhere with good rooms and great restaurant. Rooms were beautifully furnished.. in a separate barn to the pub. Lovely toiletries and biscuits in the room. Food was really good..sat by the fire beforehand with a glass of vino. Plenty of parking. Breakfast next day was good. Would definitely go back.

Only minor.. WiFi wasn’t great in the room and the dining room lighting was quite bright. Pub didn’t open until 6 which was fine for us but good to know if you’re planning on getting there earlier and wanting to go to the bar.

Very quiet location, pleasant pub and good accomodation in a separate building. Variety and quality of food was well above expectations. Courteous, friendly staff.

I thoroughly dislike the practice of adding the cost of a tip on a 'discretionary ' basis. I would have been happy to tip more but didn't as by then was a little annoyed. Shame, as otherwise a wonderful place.

A very delicious breakfast in a charming pub, the rooms are spacious and beautifully arranged, with a very comfortable king-size bed. The hotel is set in wonderfully idyllic nature.

Unfortunately, the hotel is very, very noisy, and you can even hear the neighbor's conversation... Recommendation: bring earplugs!!

Room tidy and modern, located in a quaint and quiet village, nice to have fresh coffee grounds in the room. Fantastic food and lovely atmosphere in the bar, waiting staff exceptional.

Room was quite dark, cafetiere was dirty and needed replacing, teapot cracked so leaked everywhere. Sign in room suggests fresh milk available throughout your stay but if the bar is shut there is only a phone number for emergencies. Bedsheets very stiff and noisy.
