Beautiful interior architecture. Everything comfortable and clean. Large room and bathroom. Right off Highway 101. Good brew pub right downstairs for dinner and lovely cafe also right there for breakfast.

No humans around. One woman sitting in a backroom eventually ventured out to check us in. She was not dressed to go to work and it appeared we were interrupting her relaxation. Pleasant enough once we dealt with her, but her training needs improvement to match the quality of the hotel.

We stayed at The Carlton for just one night after a long 12-hour drive from Oregon. The hotel is a delightful blend of old-world elegance with modern comforts. The tasteful decor was a welcome change from the generic chain hotels we had endured the past few days. Best overall for us - We didn’t have to drive to a restaurant for dinner since great restaurants are within easy walking distance (1-2 blocks) - We highly recommend Mr. Q's. The Carlton's perfect location, combined with its charming atmosphere, made it the perfect stopover.

Love the historic building and furnishings. Rooms are large and confortable. Love the bathrooms and interior courtyard. Atascadero is a good location for wine tasting, golfing, and other activities around SLO. or Paso Robles or the coast. The bakery next door has excellent pastries and coffee.

Fear the new ownership won't respect and maintain the historic character of the hotel. It can be updated/freshened, if that's what they want to do, without destroying the historic vibe. It's a gem of a place, please don't turn it in to a Hampton Inn.

Very nice clean facility. We wish they had at least a light breakfast included, that would have made it perfect. They could also have microwaves in the room which would help. Very nice hotel though and we would stay again even knowing the things they don't offer.

Mainly just the lake of breakfast in the morning. There is really nothing close by for breakfast unless a bakery item will do it for you.

First time we stayed here was about a month ago. We returned as it was so great. Loved the staff and holiday decorations and the character. Super location to walk to 'about anywhere in Atascadero Central Business District.

This time, there were some noted repairs: worn carpet meeting the tiled bathroom flooring was a negative impression and unattractive.

The hotel is beautiful and our room was very spacious. The large tub with jets was a real treat. The front desk staff was welcoming and provided good recommendations for places to eat within walking distance from the hotel.

The hotel's restaurant was closed for refurbishments and had been closed for several months. The Booking.com website did not reflect this information.

I stay there often. It’s quiet, clean, spacious and perfectly located for me.

2 quick comments - our whirlpool did not work (we didn’t need it but it should be fixed). Also, the temperature of the hot water heater is too high. It’s scorching. By lowering it by a couple of degrees the hotel will be saving a fortune.

Front desk lady, I forgot her name, but she makes my stay very special, her knowledge of the area and her friendliness is amazing, definitely one of the best asset in your hotel, hotel room was clean and very comfortable. I would definitely be back, highly recommended! Sorry for not remembering her name. Old age 😂😂

We stayed 4 nights. I rated the Carlton Hotel very high for all categories. Our room had a lovely small balcony overlooking the courtyard. The easy and available complementary parking was a huge plus. Very impressive collection of wines for sale; nice touch. Restaurant next door and others nearby is a great convenience. Also had a gym/work out room.

We were not aware of a microwave to reheat food; would have liked to have that appliance available somewhere in the hotel. Also would have appreciated complementary water and Kurig coffee in the Lobby (not just in our room). A small shopette at the front desk or vending machine anywhere in the hotel for those late night snack cravings would have been great. Also, hotel pen and paper was missing in our room. All are minor items (except the microwave) but are small add'l comfort conveniences that are usually available in higher quality hotels. I would definately rate the Carlton in that category. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and will be back!

The hotel is historic, almost 100 years old. The remodel was very elegant. The room was spacious and accommodating and plush.

As mentioned in the amenities, there was no tub. That was a huge disappointment, since I brought bath salts because I don’t have a tub in my home. . As mentioned in the amenities, there were no bathrobes. The desk did not mention the spa/workout room, so I don’t know if it was in operation.
