Great location, comfy beds, great shower, quiet even though Little Italy is a popping place and right near the airport. Very convenient to blue and green trolley line. Staff was very cheerful and friendly. Room was small but exactly what I needed. Room includes small fridge but not any utensils other than disposable cups (no kettle etc). Coffee and tea is downstairs not in room.
Would have liked a kettle / tea or bowl in room but it was overall great value for money.

Love, love, love the location! If you want to be right in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy with amazing restaurants just steps away, this is your spot. The staff was so friendly and made everything easy; they even checked our bags for us while we waited for our room so we could hit the town. The hotel itself is inexpensive, super clean, and has everything you need for a comfy stay. The bed was cozy, the AC was blissful (thank you to San Diego sunshine!), and it all just felt easy. Perfect place to stay if you want to eat your way through Little Italy without breaking the bank. Would absolutely stay again!

The bed was very comfortable, everything was very clean, and the location was excellent! The weekend we were there there was an art walk and the usual weekend market a couple blocks away. The location within little Italy was very central, we walked to everything.
The bathroom lacked counters and hooks. The carpets were dark so it made the place look dingy. It’s unfortunate because everything was very clean and they looked fairly new. However, bad carpet colour will not keep me away. This was a great hotel and I’d stay there again.

Right across from one of the best brunch places ever: Morning Glory. Great location, incredibly helpful staff (when does a front-desk guy see you entering the lobby after a few drinks at 11pm at night, hop up from his chair, and hit the elevator button so you can go straight up to your room?? Amazing!). All kinds of great Italian people, cafes, and eateries in the area. Fun little speakeasy bar around the corner, False Idol. Nice overnight parking spot just a 7-minute walk away for just $12.50 (we used the Spothero app). Really enjoyed the stay. Thanks to LA PENSIONE!
Room was a bit tight with a smaller TV, but overall clean and comfortable and good value for money. Homeless guy was laying down in front of the entrance and offering us a few choice words around 7pm dinner time, but he was gone when we returned around 11pm later on ...

This is a perfect location from which to explore San Diego, whether it's walking, by bus, or Lyft. Yet the important stuff is still nearby: food, pharmacy, farmers market, breweries. Staff is very friendly.
There are signs the hotel is still recovering from COVID. Our A/C unit was weaker than expected and probably needed replacement or maintenance. Our reading lights cut out within two minutes of being turned on. I suspect when there's available cash ownership will do a deeper dive.

The staff at La Pensione Hotel was superb; friendly, professional, nothing is too much trouble. The attached cafe was perfect for breakfast, as the hotel doesn't offer any options. The room (facing the street) was small, but functional and airy. Everything was extremely clean. Surprisingly, for a hotel in the middle of Little Italy, it was very quiet at night.
The lighting in the shower/toilet area could have been better. It was very dark; maybe a higher wattage overhead?

It’s tucked away in Little Italy, away from the bland big hotels. The smell of jasmine permeates. Excellent restaurants and coffee are nearby. It’s really close to the tram/trolley for getting about the city. The Farmers’ Market is great.
It’s a little tired and frayed around the edges - but aren’t we all?

Location is great, Little Italy was outside our window. The staff was wonderful.
To be fair, the hotel has recently been sold. The plan now is to close down in September, I think, for a year+ and completely renovate. As such, there were few pluses. No housekeeping was a surprise. Everything was a bit worn. If driving, parking might be difficult, but check.

The location was perfect. Walking distance to everything. Delicious food nearby. Reasonable pricing. The rooms were small but all we needed and appeared to be recently upgraded. I would stay again.
Little loud on Saturday night but it all cuts off at 10pm so not too bad and worth it for the location. I recommend not having a car, if you are staying in the city I wouldn't rent one as there are tons of Uber/lyfts. The parking that exists is extremely limited and they said beginning March 2024 they will not have any parking. You will have to use public parking and the closest one I noticed on my walks was a few blocks away.

Loved little Italy, great food, great people, street fair, pood parking, close to ships, Balboa Park, old town and beach
The room was tiny, no maid service, no place to have coffee, no coffee pot, microwave and we wanted to have lunch in our room and relax after walking but there was no place to have a seat for the two of us, one had to sit on the bed.
