Cute little place. Was originally given a handicapped room for some reason and it felt vast and cold. Asked to get a regular room and it was nice and cozy.

A few minor things.. 1. The room we were in was upstairs and the hotel next doors’ bright parking lot lights were harshly coming into our window at night. We had to place a towel over the shutters before bed. 2. The gas fireplace kept turning itself off. We’d have to keep flipping the switch on and off several times to get it back on. The fan to blow the warm air from the fireplace was very loud. 3. It wasn’t easy to control the temperature in the room. 4. There wasn’t a single picture or piece of art on the walls of the room. Just seemed a bit bare.

Pool is lovely, but a bit small and more of a social scene than a place to swim laps, so I did not swim as much as I expected to. Place has quite a lively crowd that gathers for drinks in the bar each night. I was probably twice as old as anyone in there, but that’s ok. Food truck was fun for latte and overstuffed quesadillas. Churros though were greasy, so disappointing.

You had to request housekeeping daily, and even on request, it didn’t happen. I don’t need fresh towels /clean sheets every day, but it’s nice to have the bed made, the trash picked up, coffee/tea refilled, and fresh water bottle and glasses. And that happened only once after the second request on a 6 night stay.

We absolutely adored this property. It was very conveniently located within 10-15 minutes of the sites we wanted to see and excursions we booked during our stay. The staff were incredibly helpful, communicative , and accommodating. The events the El Rey hosted, which we were lucky enough to enjoy while there, were a pleasant surprise. Every city needs to have a local jam night. It was so much fun to join in. The food truck was exceptional — portions were shareable and options plentiful. And the swim club offered a perfect place to chill and rest after a day out on the town. I highly recommend staying at El Rey if you are looking for a non-resort option in Santa Fe. Full of charm and comfort.

I would recommend for anyone staying over 2 nights that you automatically offer housekeeping.

I was nervous given the mixed reviews but we had a very good experience. We were in the Alamo Court area so we couldn't park by our door and had an upstairs room which was in great condition, appeared to be recently renovated. No wear on furniture or carpet and very clean. The A/C and ceiling fan kept the room comfortable. No road nose. Staff at check-in were friendly and efficient. The on-site food truck had an interesting menu and competitive prices but we did not eat there. When we walked the neighborhood we found more services than we initially thought were nearby. The Pantry Restaurant was a bonus, close with GREAT food!

It took a long, long time for the shower water to get hot sometimes.

The decor. The vibe. The many cozy corners to sit outside and pathways to explore. Having a food truck that served breakfast and late dinners right outside my door. The bar onsite that had a different event every night. The large hot tub with fireplace open to the stars. The pool looked super cute but wasn’t open yet for the season when I was there. The staff were all lovely. I am so glad I chose to stay here!

Nothing honestly. But I would just note that for someone who is looking for a walkable area, this might not be the greatest option. However, I had my car and was thankful that allowed me to stay at a place like this and still get into other areas easily.

I’ve stayed at the el Rey multiple times - with friends, alone, my husband, and now husband and baby and this has been my favorite stay by far. We had the king room with kitchen and it was perfect for our little girl to nap and sleep. It was dark and a little secluded from our space which made it ideal. El Rey provided the pack n play which was incredibly helpful for us too. The kitchen was nice too for me to store and prepare our daughter’s food and snacks. The bed was comfy and the shower had great water pressure. This time they even text us to ask how they could assist further which they’ve never done before. Really enjoyable stay!

The only thing that isn’t convenient in staying here is the location is a little far from the plaza if you’re coming to explore and shop that. But the charm and comfort made up for it! Plus there was an amazing antique store and coffee shop not a far drive that was well worth it as well

Very stylish, somewhat minimalist/modernist/but-not-too motel/hotel, with a great little bar and seating areas - including a fire pit, and a nice little lawn area. There was a pizza pop-up by the lawn and small additional cocktail bar. Good vibes! The pool and spa/hot tub areas looked very inviting. We stayed in one of the more traditional-style motel rooms. Very, very comfortable beds. A strong and excellent shower.

The motel drive-up rooms need bottom up shades!! Everyone can see your business. It's a little depressing to have no natural light in the room. The in-room coffee was a bad/sad experience. You had to make it like tea and it was tepid. There was not enough sweetener and no creamer. It was awful awful awful. There was a problem with the TV in our room that could not be resolved while we were there. Stuff happens - we got over it. We were refunded the $20 "amenity fee" and offered a couple free cocktails.

My friends and I loved this place and will definitely go back the next time we are in Santa Fe. The place has a unique, retro, very hip vibe. There was a pizza truck I'm the courtyard, they have a breakfast truck in the mornings, activities in the bar, and people were so friendly - staff and guests alike. There is a greenhouse to sit in and a big courtyard garden with tables and blooming rose bushes. The bed was extremely comfortable.

My only complaint would be that the rooms, esp the bathroom, are a little dark and could use more lighting. I had a single room and this was the case, by my friends' double room was a bit brighter (more light sources). It was a little noisy from the traffic but it wasn't terrible. I did have some very noisy neighbors watching aports on TV and yelling. I called the front desk and I think they must have moved to another room.

Very charming well kept grounds. Rooms are all different which is mostly a good thing.

Just noticed several minor maintenance issues. Heater didn’t work properly in one room but they allowed me to change rooms. New room, the faucet dripped all night. But it’s a very old motel and I’m sure the maintenance issues are very challenging. I also wish they’d offer just some semblance of a breakfast. Heck, even some fruit and bagels. Instead there’s a food truck in the freezing cold Santa Fe mornings. Not very appetizing.

Cute and charming, extensive grounds, great little cocktail bar, many outdoor places to sit and relax, parking at or near the rooms. There’s a food trailer offering breakfast Tuesday - Saturday, and pizza cooked in an outdoor oven on Sunday and Monday nights. Live music on Wednesdays and Sundays, but check the events schedule on their website to confirm.

Neighborhood isn’t the greatest, although once on the property I felt very safe. My room, although beautifully furnished in a contemporary style, was in need of some repainting and touching up. There’s no body wash and only one bar of soap provided. Coffeemaker is an electric kettle with “tea bag” style coffee. No decaf coffee or tea available either in the room or in the lobby, so bring your own coffeemaker and coffee/tea if that’s important to you.
