It was clean, and the staff was polite
I had to fill the coffee machine up with water twice myself, and I asked already the first day for hot chocolate for the children and they said we’ll get it and every day I asked for it and they said we have to go into the town and get more though there was a supermarket directly across the street There was one packet there at the first day and then the remainder of our day there was no more hot chocolate. It’s not a big deal, but if you offer it, you should have it all the time and I replenish the coffee myself many times because it was not Taken out from underneath the cabinet and put onto the trolley that holds theK cups

Excellent location, super friendly staff, room was clean, spacious & great views.
Curtains were very old and the smelled smelled a little stale/musty. We kept windows cracked and it dissipated right away

The location is fantastic! A short walk to so many shops/resturants and the river in the back is beautiful. We loved the fires in the evening and sitting in the chairs out back to appreciate the scenery during the day. The staff were really nice and we loved that they left us a wine opener. There was a vending machine/coffee area which we only noticed the last morning, wish we saw that sooner so we could have taken advantage of it.
They were doing renovations while we were there so it was pretty busy. We stayed for 3 nights and no cleaning service/fresh linens etc., would have been nice because the room smelled a bit musty. I wish there was a common area, lounge, bar/resturant, but this was really more of a fancy motel.

A fantastic location on the river just 3 minutes walk into the Woodstock Village with all the restaurants and shops! The Staff was over the top helpful offering bicycles, coffee, fire pits and almost anything you need. We loved our comfy king bedroom with fluffy pillows and a good-sized bat. The Shire is just a short drive to all the area’s attractions like the Gorge, the Billings Museum and of course the famous covered Bridges. This was our first time at The Shire, and we will go back again!
The only disappointment was understandable. The fireplaces don’t get inspected until November so they aren’t functioning until then.

Nice, big comfy rooms,Very comfortable bed. We had some french doors which opened up to a little private patio overlooking the river. If it hadn't been so hot, we would have spent a lot of time there. Very quiet, lovely tables and umbrellas outside on the large lawn with games lie corn hole lying about. Staff was scarce but very helpful when needed. Air conditioning perfect for the high temperature and humidity outside. Easy walk to main street and stores and eating places.
Wish we could have accessed the river out side our window. There was a sharp drop-off and no trail or access, but water tubes on the lawn which were very tempting but impossible to use with no access to the water. The ice was in another building. There were coffee makers on every floor, but the one next our door was not working well. We had two little mice that came in and out of the gas fireplace (which had a sign saying it was out of order). Tho we usually ask that no one clean our hotel rooms, we were surprised when no one tried to, even though we were there for 2 nights.

Location was phenomenal - right next to a river, market across the street and local shopping within walking distance. Grounds were beautiful and outdoor chairs and fire pit were available. Room didn’t have a coffee station but we brought our own.
Wish the windows would open so we could enjoy the beautiful breeze and the gurgling river. The window near the door needs a room darkening shade. The hallway light was bright (for safety reasons I’m sure) and so our room was semi-dark.

Loved this hotel. On the banks of a river which was perfect for my 6 year old. It was shalllow outside the hotel allowing him to throw rocks and play independently. Deeper a bit further down for my husband and him to swim. Fire pits at night to everyone’s delight. Walkable into town even w a senior and a kid. Lovely staff. Available coffee/ water etc. lovely porches to sit and watch the world go by. Grocery across the street.

Beautiful very large room with clean tidy colonial furniture and comfortable king bed and modern bathroom. Wonderful setting on a beautiful river with outdoor and patio furniture to relax and enjoy the lovely scene. Quick and easy checkin and checkout. Great location a few steps to beautiful and quaint classic Vermont village of Woodstock. No ce grocery right across the street. This is the best inn we’ve stayed at and the price is reasonable.

From check-in, I was impressed. The young woman who checked us in was just a delight, very friendly and informative, sharing some ideas with us for the weekend. The room was just lovely. The photos on Booking.com looked like a nice little place for a weekend with my (adult) daughter but the room exceeded my expectations, especially considering they are a "motel", with an "M". They offered so much more in terms of comfort and convenience! The room was spacious and most of all, CLEAN! It even had a mini fridge which was *very* convenient! We had a river view which, whether you sat in the rocking chair in the room or the arm chair, made for a very serene moment, especially watching the morning fog roll through. We didn't have the best weather, but if it had been nicer and more walkable, we could have explored the entire downtown on foot and left the car at the motel. It could not have been more convenient!
The room was lovely with a rocker and armchair but I wish it had had a small table as well. It was a little awkward setting out snacks when we got back to the room. Everyone's comfort level is different, and for *me*, the pillows just didn't work out - I have neck and shoulder issues and the smaller sized pillows just are not friendly to my issues. Otherwise the bed itself was comfy!

They don't offer breakfast. We walked into town and bought it for ourselves. The location is outstanding and the bed was very comfortable. There wasn't enough light in the room for comfortable reading, though.
They tell you when you arrive that they only service the room every other day. Since we were staying just two nights that meant that I made the bed and I straightened the towels and cleaned up the bathroom. Not a tragedy, but not so appropriate when the room coast over $800 for two nights.
